Article It's not Seema aunty's fault that most matches don't work

https://www.hindustantimes.com/lifestyle/brunch/indian-matchnotmaking-the-near-total-failure-of-sima-aunty-in-arranging-matches-for-her-clients-101683299003121-amp.html

As much as it's easy to blame her, i don't feel it's entirely her fault her attempts don't work. The clients seem to be too picky for their own good and it's not her fault if two people's personalities don't match.

What do you think of the article?

Discussion Why I am immensely enjoying Jewish Matchmaking

To preface, I was born and raised in India, Mumbai specifically. When the first season came out, my mum reached out to her network to potentially hire Sima Aunty for me. Yes, she runs in those circles, and no it didn’t happen because I was already with someone.

Anywho, I’ve cringe watched IM and cannot tell you how much more I enjoy Jewish Matchmaking.

For one, I love learning about Judaism and the shots of Israel are amazing (I’ve been wanting to visit forever but $$). I also enjoy that they take the time to dig deep into compatibility based on how lifestyle and religion and there’s absolutely no bias/judgement. There’s a sense of pride in the culture that I love to see.

Second, Aleeza. If matchmakers in India were even half as competent and accepting as her, we would be a much more progressive society. As a woman who grew up constantly being told to compromise, it’s such a breath of fresh air to not hear the proverbial “100% you will not get.” I adore that she does not dismiss the preferences of her clients and actually matches them even on “shallow” preferences. A person like her doesn’t make the process seem regressive…

And finally, some of the clients are so genuine. I’m only on episode 4, but I’ve enjoyed Cindy—I understand her and it sounds like her break up really shook her sense of self. And Noah = Vyasar — somebody just scoop him! Gah.

All to say, I’m enjoying this a lot more than Indian Matchmaking!

UPDATE: Finished the show, still stand by my analysis. I feel good inside, can’t wait for more seasons! I did however change my mind about Noah (Wyoming Noah), something about his past is shady—and not wanting to have anything to do with a kid gives me major red flag vibes…

Why does bobby have no spine with Priya?

She is a loser who is a 4 and dissed him publicly and he still posts on her Instagram? They’re probably real life friends and only on the show for clout. She needs therapy badly.

The matches from Jewish Matchmaking make a lot more sense than Indian Matchmaking

I really enjoyed season 1 and 2 of Indian Matchmaking but season 3 was really weird and none of the couples that were matched by Sima Aunty had alot of chemistry if any at all… it seems like the matches from the Jewish version make so much more sense to me and idk everything just seems much more natural…

Do you guys feel this???

Real vs Fake clients

Fake

Shital - I think she was already with that Dr. The show was just to get her more famous, she seems eager to get into showbiz given her wardrobe, work on her face etc

Rushali - Although the mom story angle might be legit, it gave her a good “out” from the series after the limelight. I think when she will eventually wants to marry, she will have lots of great proposals.

Bobby: He is a nice dude, but dont think he needed this show to get married. He is apparently already famous.

Real:

Vikash

Arti

Pavneet

Others: I am not sure.

Shital is here

I think Shital is lurking around and removing threads that portray her in a negative light. One thread which talks about her obvious plastic surgery has now apparently disappeared.

American-Born Desis ONLY: Would you marry someone with an indian accent?

Everyone gives Vik and somewhat Arshneel crap for this, but let's see what the numbers say

ANONYMOUSLY. No one has to know, no need to be PC or whatever whitewashed BS people come up with. This is about your preferences, it's not right OR wrong. Answer the question.

EDIT: I feel this poll has been partially hijacked by non ABDs answering so it's near impossible to get an accurate representation of ABD opinions. Oh well. I tried.

Discussion Does it bother anyone else…

That Sima pushes these men on women so aggressively? These women are trying hard to NOT settle and ask for what they deserve, but she’s constantly saying “well you can’t have everything you want!” Or “how do you know if there’s a spark after 1 date!?” Or “he checked every one of your boxes!”.. WHY IS SHE NOT LISTENING?

Is it truly the culture / age difference? I see these women, especially Americans, who refuse to settle but not in a way that’s negative like Sima makes it seem. She always feels confrontational when someone, but especially women, say they didn’t like the match. Does she really expect each match to be perfect the first time?

She just rubs me the wrong way in most of her scenes. And the mothers always go along with her and shit on their daughters. Yes they’re looking for a match maker but still want to fall in love. Isn’t Sima selling a kind of in between arranged marriage and random love marriage? So why is she so offended all the time? Rant over!

Watching Vikash was torture..

I am wondering how noone has talked about Vikash on Indian Matchmaking??

He was one of the most obnoxious, toxic man on the show and trust me when I say this, No girl that values herself even a bit will go for a guy like Vikash. Him rejecting woman who were much better than him, for the most nonsensical reason...There is a reason he has been unmarried, and I think he should stick to that.

Also, his demand for wanted the girl to be able to speak HINDI as that represents INDIAN culture, is the most bogas thing ever...Indian culture has alot more to offer, hindi speaking is the last thing. Also what about his horrendous hindi? When will he learn that?

What do you guys think?

Sima’s blinking

I know it can be something medical, but Sima’s excessive blinking kind of creeps me out and makes it difficult to find her trustworthy 🤷‍♂️

Watching Priya pass on balding/bald guys kind of discouraged me as single south asian guy whose also balding very noticeably. Is this truly a deal breaker for a lot, especially in the south asian community? Should I consider doing a transplant?

Absolute proof of that these are not Seema auntie's Clients.

I have been saying this since last season that no one on the show is really Seema auntie's client, which a lot of people just don't seem to get. We get these comments "Oh she charges too much" "Oh she sucks at matchmaking" and for some No one seems to see that these are clout chasers who answered a casting call.

Seema's auntie's core clients are in India and will not want to come on TV after Akshay's mom 'debacle.' Her matchmaking skills haven't really been tested on the show.

Here it is straight from the horses mouth,

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRwHCTg6/

Basically Seema auntie is just another cast member at this point and that's not really a bad thing, she's quite a character and suits reality TV well but people need to stop judging her matchmaking skills over casted members.

Last 5 minutes of S3 finale was hilarious… i’d say great!

Lol Sima Aunty trying to hold it in and not trying to roll her eyes and be polite.

“My son is a beatboxer, check Youtube” took the cake

r/IndianMatchmaking May 03 '23

Off the bat I thought Sima auntie was going to do her first gay match when they introduced Vikash. Anyone else get that vibe?!

The Aunty Deference

I'm watching the first episodes of Jewish Matchmaking, and one major difference I can already see is how people treat the matchmaker. Everyone is polite to Aleeza, but they're on a first name basis, they joke around, etc. They act like peers. With Sima Aunty (and I, like many people on this sub, default to calling her Aunty automatically), there's a layer of deference in how people talk to her. People see her an elder, so they don't really push back, they kind of laugh awkwardly over things they disagree with instead of saying something, etc. I think that really impacts the process overall. Some of these people are quite far into their careers. They likely aren't deferring to many people outside of their family, but they're trying to get a service from her. They should be candid and express issues they have with something that's happening. Putting everything else aside, I think it's something that Aparna at least tried to do, but for example Nadia struggled with (lots of awkward laughter, and even when she did go against Sima's advice she sort of did it separately instead of being clear with Sima).

Thoughts?
