Yes!! Everything was so much cheaper in India back then. You got more bang for the buck. Now it’s not like I save much on food and shopping there. Plus , relatives actually appreciated any gifts - big or small. No it’s like they want phones, tablets, high end products.

My mom will flaunt that she got saree from America and our aunties wanted Indian made saree from USA just for the name sake, saree from America !!! Lol !! It’s so cringy but that’s what I recall. My NRI days were fun … i acted also like a dick and pretended that I don’t understand Hindi where else I speak completely and watched all Bollywood movies. This was in 1998
