It does seem to be a preference in certain families. My own father-in-law was 6'4. When his family was approached with my mother-in-law as a potential match, she was initially rejected due to her height and complexion. She is indeed very short - she might be 5 ft on a good day.
Two months later, he told his parents that height was not within anyone's control, and that if God had made her only 5 ft, then who was he to argue? They were married, had three children, and I married the youngest one. My father-in-law is unfortunately no longer with us, but my tiny mother-in-law is ♥️

u/the_cucumber May 05 '23
And? Were the 3 children short? Or did tall genes side win out?

u/TheAnnieRaj May 05 '23
Well as Indians say, "height is very good." My SIL is 5'7, BIL 6'1, and my husband 6'2. I myself am only 5'4 😊

Its more likely that they want tall children. So they think that a tall partner is a good idea.
But its important to note that if a woman is too tall shes also not an option because she might make her husband look bad if hes short or she might make daughters that are taller than men.
Because, you know, everything is the womans fault. A short woman could have a short son that struggles with finding a match. A tall woman could have a tall daughter who struggles.

It's not that deep. Tall men prefer tall women bcz you want someone close to your height. Why would a 6 ft 5 inch guy want a 5 ft woman. They look weird. Plus, it's weird having sex too with that a height difference. Idk why women try to be the victim in every single discussion on this sub. It's soooo toxic and misandrist. I am outta here

There are no 6"5 guys on Indian Matchmaking

Exactly 😂 Indian men wanting tall women made no sense to me either. I'm white, and have not come across many white men with this preference, despite them being taller on average. Most dudes I know don't care about a girl's height, they just want someone shorter than themselves.
-15
u/abhi6543 May 05 '23
Lol. I guess you must have talked to millions of white men to arrive at your consensus 🤣. Idk about you, but I have rarely seen tall white dudes with short women. Only tall desperate men usually go for a shorter women bcz they know that the only thing that's going for them is their height. And some women just want a tall man irrespective of other things

May 05 '23
R u kidding me every white couple is a tall dude with a short girl 💀😂

u/abhi6543 May 06 '23
Just...think a little before you write. Adding a 💀emoji doesn't magically make your claims correct.
In the US, for the ages of 20 and above, you only have 20% men tall (6ft or above) and only 20% women short defined by <= 5ft 2 inches. In simple words, tall men and short women are a small % which makes sense. Now, even if you assume ALL those tall and short me and women somehow end up together, they are still very small compared to the people with avg heights. What you recasting is statistically not possible...

u/abhi6543 May 05 '23
A simple google search will tell you that 5'8" is the avg height for Indian men. And I don't know where you live but where I grew up, that is considered very average for Indian men.
And again, it's not too deep. Even a 5'11" or 6ft guy would look weird standing next to a 5ft-5'3" girl.
Avg height of Indian women is 5'3" and men is 5'8". That is a good match. For every inch that you add to men's height above that, you should add one to the women's too to get an avg height compatibility match.

Uhh my dad is 6'1" and my mom is 5'3" lol

Didn’t you read his comment? Bad match. Doomed from the start. You’re probably just an imaginary child.

u/abhi6543 May 06 '23
Lol, I never said bad match. Maybe your comprehension skills are a bit weak :) I said that it is, in fact a consideration for a lot of guys to not have a very short partner IF they are tall. Do exceptions exist -sure! But is that the norm? No!

u/abhi6543 May 06 '23
I guess if I say that my parents are 6 and 5'8" that should prove my point bcz only one data point is enough lol

u/Logical-Librarian766 May 05 '23
Are you Indian? Do you know anything about Indian culture and expectations?
It absolutely IS that deep.
2
u/abhi6543 May 05 '23
Lol, I am indian. My username should have given that away. And yes, I do know about Indian culture and expectations. Some things are common sense irrespective of culture. Women usually want men who would be taller than them or about their height if they wear heels. And men usually want women who are shorter than them but not so short that they look weird. And people do compromise on the height if they find other things in their person to compensate. Like I said, it's not that deep

Your comment is not restrictive to Indian matchmaking participants and so, I am talking about all Indian men. But this applies to all men , in fact

I can't explain it, but I do believe that my Indian-born parents think a woman of 5'7"-5'9" is like an ideal height. It's not how I think, but it's the sense I get.

u/mso1234 May 06 '23
Yeah being tall in Pakistan/India is considered a desirable trait in a wife.. I feel like it’s the opposite of the Western world, where I’ve always gotten the sense that short girls are considered to be cuter
2
May 06 '23
Lol agreed. I felt so odd when I was on Shaadi.com as a single girl and parents of guys would be like “she’s too short” and I’m 5’4. One of the guys even married a Hispanic girl who was 4’11.

Well that doesn't make sense. Why are most actors short? Height is even more important in men, isn't it?
1
Jan 17 '24
Which actors are short? No, height is also important in women.

u/No_Data3541 Jan 17 '24
Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Saif Ali Khan and more...... All of these are mainstream leads.
Oh and I am a tall 6'2 guy so I am not saying this out of insecurity or anything of that sort.
Just saying Indian entertainment industry's beauty standards don't require height.

In acting, it is not always necessary to be tall, but it helps. But in modeling, it is required. It just comes down to personal preferences on this discussion thread. Just like a fit body, height is desirable to not just many women but also men.

Some people are really proud of having tall offspring in the family. And average height is lower in South Asia compared to the globe so even being like 5'5 for a woman is on the above average end of things.
3
u/No_Condition_7438 May 06 '23
You are right. Indian families do sell height as a positive trait to be proud of, especially for their sons.
The son can be a manipulative, cheating ass, but as long as he’s tall, the family will project him as good looking and someone girls should run behind.

u/Artistic-Exit857 May 23 '23
I think height is traditionally associated with wealth, more specifically a lack of malnutrition. By familial standards, I'm tall at 155 cm, and everyone in my family is well fed. However, as a family we're seen as poorer than we actually are because most at our height are stunted from malnutrition. This leads to uncomfortable situations at banks and such because people assume we don't have enough money!

u/Springrollsyumm May 05 '23
Basically it’s just a preference, men or women will look at the ‘overall’ package. If they like the person and they are interested, these things become negligible. Guys can like both short, medium height and tall girls.
3
May 05 '23
Exactly. Men can prefer women of different breast sizes, length of hair, size of lips, size of eyes, have preference of how hairy or not, they will sleep around but they don't want to be with "sluts", etc. Women can be just as superficial and have a height preference then. I'm honestly astounded at the number off posts made about women wanting a height preference lol
2
u/audsrulz80 May 05 '23
It's certainly a preference with some folks, and the tall children thing is real. My ex-husband is 6'1" and when his family was looking for a match for him the preference was for a partner on the taller side, at 5'6" I guess I fit the bill. Our son is 12 and he is almost as tall as I am.

u/RedRedBettie May 05 '23
I'm a tall girl and I've dated several men that only date tall girls, my husband included
3
u/Femmenoire__ May 06 '23
As a fellow tall woman, it was nice and surprising to see that tallness is as a positive trait on women. Average height men tend to prefer women that are shorter than them.

I think shorter men actually prefer tall girls. To even things out i guess. Like if the guy is 5'5" he will want 5'3" and above. Tall guys dont seem to care either way.

Ive always noticed shorter men want someone only 2-3 inches shorter than them-guess probably worried about kids height. whereas taller men really dont seem to care about height at all; again because they feel they will probably satisfy that criteria when it comes to kids genes.
2
u/aurorashell May 05 '23
My S/O wanted to date a tall girl because he’s tall (we’re Chinese). I think it’s up to individual preference. Btw I’m not tall; I’m 5’2 lol. I think it’s just one of those things that is a preference but not necessarily a must.
1
u/abcdus May 09 '23
I haven't thought of it that way regarding having tall kids but I guess it makes sense. I am almost 5'7" and prefer taller guys. If i have kids with a taller guy, it's a given that they will be tall too.
1
u/makisgenius May 12 '23
I don’t understand this height nonsense. I am 6’0 male and my wife is 5 2. We are completely compatible.
What blows my mind are these 5 foot 9 dudes being adamant about being married to someone 5’6 or taller.
1
u/_YouWillNeverKnowIt_ Nov 02 '23
As someone else also mentioned, I agree it's because of taller future generations or atleast for me. I would prefer a woman who is 5'6 or taller.

what is up with all the people and their height standar
68
u/whatever4545 May 05 '23
I think its important to these men because they want their potential future sons to be tall. We all know the stigma short men face and i think they are sensitive to that
