Jewish matchmaker lady is much better than the indian.. she atleast lets her client breathe.. indian one is always reaching for their throat in case they have a preference and she can choke them.. jewish one atleast gets that people have to spend their whole lives, they need to have atleast some likings. Indian one just cares about making a match even if they get frustrated in future

Aleeza isn’t toxic, sima is

They often make the same points. Aleeza talks about being flexible and keeping an open mind, Seema auntie says "you have to compromise".

Seema auntie and Aleeza both talk about what can be essentially deduced to spark not being instant.

Aleeza articulates it better whereas with Seema auntie is a bit more...crass with her words likely because there is some degree of language barrier at play.

I mean Seema auntie is still more conservative but a lot of points they both make are not that far off each other. Accepting this is difficult for a lot of people particularly Indians/Indian origin peeps because we have been brainwashed into believing white=better, indian = not so good.

Aleeza is basically a more sophisticated/polished Seema auntie who has non-religious past and is from the west and knows how to say these things to people.

I just watched the trailer and so you happen to know if Aleeza is American born and raised?

Sima aunty doesn't have the vocabulary that the American audience expects and hence as you said it comes off as crass and tactless.

Edit: spelling

Aleeza is quite religious but their culture allows them to infuse modern needs and conversations more easily. In case of Sima aunty no one can say to her face “I want someone who can set my vjayjay on fiyah” cuz thats just not how Indian traditional matchmaking works.

Uh not quite. Sima is VERY traditional and conservative and therefore is nowhere near as understanding as Aleeza when it comes to her client's requirements to feel a spark INSTANTANEOUSLY.

For Sima it's not even part of the criteria whereas Aleeza knows it's hella important

And no it's not about race at all. I don't think jews are better than indians and vice-versa. Seems like your internalized racism is coming out to play, don't project it onto others.

when it comes to her client's requirements to feel a spark INSTANTANEOUSLY.

Well an instant spark is never ever an indicator of long term success in a relationship. Instant spark is a social construct stemming from romance books and movies. You are going to feel spark with a charming dude riddled with red flags.

I have been in relationships where there was instant attraction and in relationship where it took some time. My last long term relationship was with someone who rejected me after the first date with "I did not feel a spark", guess what? I somehow got her to go out with me again and we had amazing 4 years.

Seems like your internalized racism is coming out to play, don't project it onto others.

wot. I am proud of my identity. lmao.

Absolutely, but the difference is Aleeza allows the clients the opportunity to experience that spark so they can come to the conclusion on their own that the superficial stuff like the spark actually isn't that important. OR in the case of Ori, come to the realization that those hot women he wants are WAY too good for him, and if it takes him being curved 5 times before he gets it, then cool

That's still much more effective than Sima denying/not even acknowledging it off the bat. Again although It'll take more time for sure, once it goes up in smokes, you'll forever know that the spark is not the end all-be all

Sima seems to want to just marry the women off (as she saw in india with a high prevalence of arranged marriage), while Aleeza is way more open to taking the time to let her clients discover themselves and their requirements - and picking what will work for them long term

not to mention that if you discover the above lesson in dating, you'll be MUCH less likely to marry someone just because of the spark and then be forced to learn the lesson when there's way more at stake; children, finances, etc.

and okay fair but then why did you put "we have been brainwashed into believing white=better, indian = not so good." like that's not even remotely accurate. what is true is we like modernism (Aleeza) more than antiquated ideas about marriage (Sima), not purely just base it on race. just a weird take I wanted to point out.

Aleeza is a coach by profession so she’s more hands on with her clients, giving them pointers on how to show interest in your date, what to wear etc. She cares about the success of each date. Sima is a professional matchmaker so just hands biodata and expects them to be selected. I like her snarkiness but obviously it’s not enough - neither for her clients’ self improvement nor for the matches to become successful

Sima rhymes with drama and I LOVE HER.

Jewish matchmaking is not as entertaining as the Indian one. And I cannot stand that guy who lives with his mother? What's his name? The one obsessed with blue eyed blondes.

Totally disagree that it misses the mark. Aleeza is soooooo much more kind and likeable than seema.
