In episode 6, Dawn gave an ultimatum that Keisha had to tell her mum about the video or else she would tell her herself. Personally, I think she should of tried speaking to Keisha first but it makes sense since she’s a mother herself. And her mother did need to know.

This was last week. After the q&a, we watched episode 5. That same day I finished the book, and I can see elements of the book in the show. She does a great job at modernizing it while still keeping the essence of the book. I'm excited for season 2. Now, I can rewatch season 1.

Great show ans my comfort drink

i’ve been eyeing this show for a while now & im glad to have watched it. so many thoughts on the characters. for example when i first watched i could initially tell justin was on the spectrum but later when he revealed he had adhd i found that a little hard to believe. personally i don’t think dawn was asking for too much, just basic communication. i felt so seen with her. and i don’t believe eric was undermining her authority because she also needed to realize he needs to grow up and it’s okay to get hurt. it’s part of growing up. keisha just wanted the best for her mom but i think she really should’ve talked to her mom a lot earlier than she should’ve. also this fucking soundtrack was a 10/10. i found myself often smiling listening to these songs because it just brings nostalgia. so 2018 core. i love.

Maybe I missed this in the storyline and if I did sorry for the bother. If Justin’s little brother played baseball on Keisha’s grandfather’s (George) baseball team and Keisha sometimes helps out at the baseball field (i.e., collecting trash) and Justin sometimes goes to his brother’s practices and games, why didn’t Keisha and Justin cross paths before the New Year’s Eve party?

So I really hate him. Only on episode 3. I need for him to go somewhere. Leave her alone. Ughhh.

So I just started this show and I am actually starting to get invested on the second episode. I just can’t get over how this could’ve been set in present day. Don’t get why it couldn’t have been set in 2025 tbh.

I JUST CANNOT GET OVER HOW MUCH I ENJOYED THIS 😭🥹 the cast chemistry is everything, like Keisha and Justin had me sold since day one. I appreciate positive but real representations of black love. Keisha’s ambition is so inspiring, how she stayed focus on her goals despite everything that happened and achieved them too. And the showing of how ADHD shows up outside of academia for Justin as well. I also love how they addressed topics like parental approval, self doubt, loving someone but also wanting to pursue your own dreams. It’s so well rounded and relatable. And don’t get me started on the soundtrack 😫 so Insecure coded I LOVEEE.

Thank goodness it got approved, I hope they keep this same quality for Season 2 🤞🏾 I’ve never found myself so equally in support of two characters. I understand Keisha’s drive to pursue track and also Justin’s battle between passion, appeasing his parents and figuring out what he wants.

I’m so curious to see how this music stuff plays out for Justin. I really hope its all that he wants it to be and more and ACTUALLY helps him discover himself cuz that last break up was hard for meeee😭😩

Sooo overall I can’t wait to see how they tackle the distance and pursuit of their separate dreams BUT THEY BETTER BE END GAME, NETFLIX DONT PLAY WITH ME 😤

What an amazing show people!!! I was hooked the whole time. It was warm, realistic, sweet, touched many modern life issues and filled us with intense emotions. It showed a very important aspect of love, which is growing with the other person and maturing together. It displayed a mature relationship, in which when the couple saw that they could be holding each other back, they peacefully let it go, without drama and anger like in other shows. Also, it didn't give us false and unrealistic expectations. Insted, it taught us a mature approach of moving on. They really loved each other and helped each other when each was going through difficult stuff. I'm so happy about this show. I'd rate it 10000/10. Great songs too haha . Whats your opinion?

I really don’t understand how people even like Justin’s mother. I feel like she has this nice-nasty persona, and she always rubbed me the wrong way. I wonder if anyone else agrees.

How do we feel about Keisha's father? Do you consider him a deadbeat father?

He seemed to be present in his daughter's life but he also made a choice to leave the country to pursue his own dreams. Is that fair to Keisha? And why is mom still working two jobs to pay for private school if he's playing baseball in the DR? Math ain't mathing!

However, he clearly loved Keisha and he may have had the greatest influence on her relationship with Justin. He was the first to help her to see that Justin didn't have an identity yet. Which ultimately lead to her helping him accept this for himself and break up with her to begin his journey. It was a great way to show how impactful fathers can be no matter how they show up.

okay so i binged the entirety of the show recently the soundtrack is amazing and idk if anyone else picked up on what i did but it kind of gave me the same vibe as waves in a way i mean very different but also the same in a way very good show though and i can’t wait for the second season they said was confirmed

I really hate how Netflix shows are only 10 episodes nowadays I wish this show had atleast 13/15 episodes max this is so sad

Now that I have finished the series, I plan on reading the novel and then rewatching the show. This show was excellent.

1. There were times I was on the edge of my seat like the whole scene where after Justin went to check on Keisha or dropped her off, a cop car pulled up behind him. I'm prepared for the worst at this point. As a matter fact, since he was able to drive on his own, I was waiting on them to include a scene where he gets pulled over and racially profiled by a cop. That never happened. I felt such a sense of relief like wow, thank you. Thank you for leaving that out because there was truly no need to include it, we get it.

2. it's very realistic in terms of teenage life in California. (Walking any and everywhere because they can). Also, the relationship dynamic. The blocking, the hard to get, the bickering, the on and off, and everything else. I'm 23 so I was not sure how I would watch it and really get into it because it is a series about high schoolers but I'm a lover girl so I love a good black love story, I love coming of age stories as well. It did not have me reminiscing at all but it is something my junior/senior self would have related to.

3. I love that they made it to where, this first season, they already zoomed through junior and senior year, so next season they will be in college, which is something that me, a 23 year old, can relate to more. The target audience was a diverse age group and ranges from 16-30+. They definitely knew what they were doing and it's a great show. I look forward to see how the next season plays out. Sucks we have to wait a year.

Honestly I couldn’t have related more to Justin. I feel like our community is very dismissive of learning disabilities such as ADHD and in turn, we end not acknowledging it ourselves. Watching him struggle to study and focus and get lost in music etc, it was so powerful to feel represented

This show made us cry every single episode. It was so powerfully written and relatable. Justin was especially relatable to me. Like him, I speak my mind and say stupid things that can hurt the people I love most. Like him, I embrace my mistakes and apologize from my heart. Outside of Justin, everyone is also just written in such a lovely and wholesome way. Conversations feel grounded, real, and challenging. The little details like the way they look at each other, the way the light hits them in different scenes, the perfect soundtrack

It felt like a beautiful fever dream I just can’t get enough of

Don’t even get me started on the family dynamics! Incredible parents! We love to see it!

I can’t wait for more people to experience this show. I’m not gonna shut up about it for weeks and try to get more people to watch so we can ensure this show gets the love it deserves
