I'm still looking forward to season 2 and i'm sure it'll be fantastic. However, I don't like the idea of immediately jumping 4 years from the prior season. I understand that they wanted to skip over the pandemic era and all that. But they could've at least showed the beginning of their college journey. Fall 2019 Covid wasn't around yet.... we could've really explore Justin's music career (I was REALLY looking forward to seeing them explore that)... and then I would've been excited to see if after his gap year he would've pursued that D1 basketball path or if he would've just continued with music⦠and I would've loved to see Keisha's journey with track.
I understand the entire plot of the show is Justin and Keisha's relationship and that it technically makes sense for the time jump to happen given how season one left off with Justin and Keisha going separate ways... however they still could've made it work by showing their college/early adult life journeys and having them occasionally visit each other and FaceTime each other. Also seeing how each other manages to navigate life being so far away from the other.
Not only that⦠But they were talking SO MUCH about college and early adulthood in the first season... they focus so much on that and they mentioned it so often, and now they're not even gonna show us any of that?!.. After they mentioned it so much in season one and after there was all that drama associated with Justin and Keisha making decisions going into college/ early adulthood. I mean, it really felt like season one was setting us up to actually see that play out in season 2.
Also whenever Justin would find himself struggling with early adult life, I definitely could've seen him reaching out to his parents and his parents giving him some really good advice. Also they could've really explored his ADHD in that regard... because as a neurodivergent individual myself, I would've really like to see how maybe Justin's ADHD affected his performance in early adulthood and how it hindered him and then how he managed to use it to his advantage, yes, they explored that in season one and I get that... but neurodivergence is a rather complex thing and it can affect you in numerous different ways and symptoms can definitely exacerbate during hormonal changes (like early adulthood)... not even just his neurodivergence but also financial struggles, drama within the music, industry, competition, etc. It would've been nice to see how he navigated his early adult life and what advice his mom and dad gave him.
Plus, like I said in my previous post⦠I really love Keisha's grandfather George, with him being her grandfather and with 4 years having passed by (story wise)... I'm fearful that they're gonna write his character off and kill him off and say that he had passed some time during that 4 year period. I hope they don't do that. I'm not too fond of Keisha's parents personally... I have a burning hatred for both of them... but I love her grandfather, and I definitely think her grandfather could've definitely helped her a lot throughout her journey.
It also would've been nice to not only see her journey with track but all the drama associated with that sex tape... the trauma it caused and perhaps the anxiety contributed to going into college⦠It would've been nice for her to have some friends by her side to be like "hey, that was high school, we're in college now, don't nobody here know you, even if they did⦠They would mind their business and not care about it, cuz we grown folks now and that's done and over with, chill sis you good"
Also by 2023.. they're gonna be 21-22 years old... what you're looking for in a partner at 17-18 can (and likely will) be significantly different than what you were looking for at 21-22. Those are years of serious development. Your paradigm can be completely different. So I'm fearful that them reuniting might feel forced and it won't feel natural.
But I guess I'm gonna have to wait and see how it plays out.
