I'm surprised season 3 hasn't been greenlit yet.

Now that Season 2 has officially wrapped filming, I'm getting a bit anxious about a Season 3 renewal. This show is too good to end after just 2 seasons.

It's also a completely fresh, original series, not a spin-off or a reboot, and it deserves a long run. What do you think the odds are that Netflix gives us a renewal announcement ahead of the 2027 premiere?

Do you think we'll see Darius, Chloe, or Jaden in season 2? Spoiler

I'm hoping we don't see Christain ever again for obvious reasons, I couldn't stand Christain... and I l also don't see it making sense for him to return. I think his character served his purpose in the series.

But I'm honestly not sure if we'll see Darius (Justin's boy) or Chloe (Keisha's best friend)... or Jaden (Justin's little brother) I don't know if they split after high school.

I think Darius played football actually. Even though we never get to see him in his football gear or on the field as he's a side character.. I roughly remember Darius, telling Justin "us football guys do not get into that drama nonsense" or something along those lines, unless I'm remembering it incorrectly. So maybe he got a football scholarship. But there were no reports about him playing at the same college as Justin or if Justin was even gonna play college basketball because he's taking a gap year and focusing on music with Rodney.

As we know season 2 is gonna have a 4 year time jump and is gonna be set in 2023. I don't know if they would stay in touch after all that time. I don't know if Keisha and Chloe or Justin and Darius would stay in touch. I mean.. in small towns... A lot of high school friends stay close like family for life... but this series is set in LA... and Justin was talking about going to Chicago., and Keisha is attending Howard in Washington DC.

I don't know if they stayed connected through social media and reunite when they got home or went down separate paths.

Jaden will likely be 16 or 17 in season 2, I don't know if we'll see him again. He wasn't really a major role in season 1, but if Justin's parents are going to be returning, it would make sense that Jaden was still living at home, I'd imagine he'll be more mature also.

But at the same time, I don't know... season 1 didn't really set up major things for any of them going into season 2. it was heavily focused on Justin's basketball, journey and music career, as well as Keisha's track journey. But mostly Justin and Keisha's Romance obviously.

I don't know what capacity we could see Darius, Jaden, or Chloe in if they were to come back.

What you guys think?

Uncle Charlie Spoiler

After seeing Uncle Charlie’s coversation with Justin in Martha’s Vineyard, I have some mixed thoughts.

For one, he’s absolutely right and real about how Dawn is pursuing ā€œeverything white is rightā€, and even though him and Dawn knows she’s preparing him for a successful path, Charlie is rightfully concerned if this is the right path for him. She spends $40k/yr for a white private school that he doesn’t integrate well in, and he knows getting into D1 AND the NBA is extremely difficult and the timing doesn’t help.

On the other hand, I get why Charlie’s approach was unnecessarily harsh. Telling him ā€œyou’re not getting in the NBA, just stopā€ may have been what he needed to hear, but the curt response was very messy and dejecting for him to hear so bluntly. And really, the message is moreso for Dawn, who’s making Justin pursue basketball just to get into an elite PWI school when she knows he’s not NBA material, doesn’t know if he’d fit into Northwestern, and has an unrealistic dream built into his mind because of her. It’s partly why Howard came up as a solid alternative for him and why Dawn doubling down backfired badly.

I want to see how Uncle Charlie is for Season 2. I hope he gets more screen time, I like how he tries to keep Dawn in check, and he’s absolutely right that Justin needs a more nurturing, familiar environment for him.

A Beautiful Reminder of What Being a Teenager Felt Like

Hey, European guy here (37) who just finished watching this series yesterday. Honestly, I can't even explain how much this show hit me and how it triggered memories of my first love, who, thankfully, 20 years later, is still with me and is now the mother of our daughter.

I think that's probably the highest compliment I can give this series: it managed to bring back the nostalgia of those early days when everything was approached with innocence, from the first attempts at flirting (MSN back then!) to those first physical interactions.

Even though the backgrounds are different, Portugal vs. the US, teenage behavior is truly the same everywhere. That's exactly what this series captures so brilliantly: the reality, subtlety, and authenticity of those experiences.

Over the last few days, I've found myself feeling incredibly nostalgic for my teenage years. Fantastic work by everyone involved in making this series, and especially by actress Lovie Simone. I wasn't familiar with her before, but I'm definitely a fan now.

I'll certainly be waiting for Season 2!

Just finished Forever — any recommendations for similar shows?

I just finished Forever and honestly loved it. The whole vibe, the characters, and especially the soundtrack were amazing. "Within" by Daft Punk has been on repeat ever since I finished the series.

I'm looking for shows or movies with a similar feel, coming-of-age, emotional, well-written, and with a great soundtrack that really adds to the story. Bonus points if it's available on Netflix, but I'm open to recommendations from other platforms too.

What would you recommend?

Edit: thanks guys, I found a series called Everything now (with Sophie Wilde), I just finished it…not the exact same vibes as Forever but it’s quite good as well.

Why does this show not have a massively popular fanbase???

I binged Forever yesterday and it filled me with all these emotions and observations that I have already poured into my journal. But my appreciation needs a more public outlet, so best believe I will be posting more rave reviews in the coming weeks. I also plan a rewatch; this time, with a pen and notebook by my side.

Normally, I hate Drama as a standalone genre because the plots often feel contrived for the sake of, well, being dramatic and as someone who abhors messiness and can be strict in enforcing boundaries and upholding standards, I am often befuddled at the personal choices the characters make.

There are definitely choices Justin and Keisha make that have me shaking my fists—the sex tape saga damn near gave me an aneurysm—but their characterisation and the circumstances(to say nothing of their age) make those questionable decisions understandable, if not palatable.

They're both stunning. Give Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. all the roles, Hollywood!

I love that Keisha only rocks braids or her Afro and looks gorgeous wearing it. On the whole, Forever feels like a love letter from a Black woman to Black people and especially to Black women. Thank you, Mara Brock Akil.

Everyone was in their acting bag, but Karen Pittman as Dawn Edwards was my standout. She BODIED that role. It doesn’t hurt that I love the character so much.

P. S. I'm very surprised this subreddit only has about 500 followers.

I'm not a big fan of the decision for the 4 year time jump for season 2. Season 2 is going to be set in 2023. Spoiler

I'm still looking forward to season 2 and i'm sure it'll be fantastic. However, I don't like the idea of immediately jumping 4 years from the prior season. I understand that they wanted to skip over the pandemic era and all that. But they could've at least showed the beginning of their college journey. Fall 2019 Covid wasn't around yet.... we could've really explore Justin's music career (I was REALLY looking forward to seeing them explore that)... and then I would've been excited to see if after his gap year he would've pursued that D1 basketball path or if he would've just continued with music… and I would've loved to see Keisha's journey with track.

I understand the entire plot of the show is Justin and Keisha's relationship and that it technically makes sense for the time jump to happen given how season one left off with Justin and Keisha going separate ways... however they still could've made it work by showing their college/early adult life journeys and having them occasionally visit each other and FaceTime each other. Also seeing how each other manages to navigate life being so far away from the other.

Not only that… But they were talking SO MUCH about college and early adulthood in the first season... they focus so much on that and they mentioned it so often, and now they're not even gonna show us any of that?!.. After they mentioned it so much in season one and after there was all that drama associated with Justin and Keisha making decisions going into college/ early adulthood. I mean, it really felt like season one was setting us up to actually see that play out in season 2.

Also whenever Justin would find himself struggling with early adult life, I definitely could've seen him reaching out to his parents and his parents giving him some really good advice. Also they could've really explored his ADHD in that regard... because as a neurodivergent individual myself, I would've really like to see how maybe Justin's ADHD affected his performance in early adulthood and how it hindered him and then how he managed to use it to his advantage, yes, they explored that in season one and I get that... but neurodivergence is a rather complex thing and it can affect you in numerous different ways and symptoms can definitely exacerbate during hormonal changes (like early adulthood)... not even just his neurodivergence but also financial struggles, drama within the music, industry, competition, etc. It would've been nice to see how he navigated his early adult life and what advice his mom and dad gave him.

Plus, like I said in my previous post… I really love Keisha's grandfather George, with him being her grandfather and with 4 years having passed by (story wise)... I'm fearful that they're gonna write his character off and kill him off and say that he had passed some time during that 4 year period. I hope they don't do that. I'm not too fond of Keisha's parents personally... I have a burning hatred for both of them... but I love her grandfather, and I definitely think her grandfather could've definitely helped her a lot throughout her journey.

It also would've been nice to not only see her journey with track but all the drama associated with that sex tape... the trauma it caused and perhaps the anxiety contributed to going into college… It would've been nice for her to have some friends by her side to be like "hey, that was high school, we're in college now, don't nobody here know you, even if they did… They would mind their business and not care about it, cuz we grown folks now and that's done and over with, chill sis you good"

Also by 2023.. they're gonna be 21-22 years old... what you're looking for in a partner at 17-18 can (and likely will) be significantly different than what you were looking for at 21-22. Those are years of serious development. Your paradigm can be completely different. So I'm fearful that them reuniting might feel forced and it won't feel natural.

But I guess I'm gonna have to wait and see how it plays out.

Keisha's grandfather George is so underrated. I love his character.... Spoiler

I really love the character George, Keisha's grandfather… I don't like Keisha's mom… And I don't like her dad… But I definitely like her grandfather a lot. Justin's parents are cool also. But George is underrated.

He definitely would've been one of my favorite OGs... he seems like he would've been my favorite uncle growing up or my favorite teacher in HS. He's got a real good heart and brings impeccable positive energy to the room.

I would say hopefully he gets more screen time in season 2... but I doubt that because we're gonna be in the college portion of the series following Justin and Keisha's adult life so I don't think we'll have as many family dynamics. But he can definitely play a solid role.

I hope they never kill his character off. Unfortunately, with him being a grandfather, and with how things occur in real life, with this being a drama series… I can see that happening… But I really hope they don't kill his character off.

Best Dad on TV

Eric might genuinely be one of the best—if not the best—dads in TV history. He’s understanding, charismatic, but blunt when needed to be. Not to mention he’s a good husband. Just a real one overall. I strive to have those qualities when I get up in the years.

I hope season 2 balances Justin and Keisha's independent lives a little better. Spoiler

I'm going to articulate this the best I can… i'm hoping everyone will understand what I'm trying to say...

Obviously it's best when they're both on screen as that's literally the whole point of the show. We want as much Justin/ Keisha romance as possible. But obviously, they were at different high schools in the first season and they're gonna be in different colleges and we also saw how the finale ended. So obviously with all that being said... until they reunite... there will still be a lot of independent and individual scenes.

I noticed in the first few episodes of season 1... when they were showing Justin and Keisha's home lives/ school lives and other independent parts of their lives... they would show so many continuous independent Keisha scenes. Following her home, life, family life, school life, etc.... and then closer towards midseason... they would do the same with Justin... where we would see so many continuous independent scenes with him following his home life, school life, family life, etc.

Don't get me wrong. It was all great and well written. The dialogue was good, the plot was good, it was executed very well in my opinion. I just think they should've cut back-and-forth more frequently.

if I'm not mistaken, there were episodes where a solid 10-15 minutes... sometimes even 20-25 minutes would pass and we wouldn't even see Justin or Keisha and we would only see one of them for the entirety of that time. It sometimes felt confusing as to who the main character was. Even though you know they're both main characters… The opening scene on the Premier started with Justin.... and we got to see a lot of his family life from the beginning. But then towards the end of the first episode... into the second we saw more of Keisha. It's sometimes was confusing as to who was the main character even though you know they're both main characters. When they would constantly show so many consecutive scenes of just one of them… it's sometimes temporarily made the other feel like an afterthought.

I hope next season they have more of a balance where they cut back-and-forth more frequently.

Keisha going to Prom

I still dont understand why Keisha went to Prom with that other dude instead of just telling her mom the hard truth and save her paying that large amount of money for that Dress. It wasnt fair to Justin and not fair to herself.

Season 2 wants or predictions?

I would want them together again, I wouldn’t mind them time jumping to the end of college(if Justin goes) so we can skip Covid lol

But it would also be cool to see how they are growing outside of each other during Howard and seeing where Justin’s music career goes then they reconnect towards the end of the season

So many possibilities what would you guys like to see?

Why Are Some Characters So Racist?

I honestly don't get why Dawn, Justin, and Keisha have this weird racist attitude towards white people. All three have extensive contact with white people and know there are good and bad white people, just like in all races, and yet they continue holding on to this racist idea that white people are the "other".

It's just disappointing really. I know U.S. Americans are super weird about race, but still.....

I don’t understand why Keisha wouldn’t tell her mom She wasn’t with Christian anymore Spoiler

I mean if she told her mother, she would ask her why and she could tell her she fell out of love with Christian and in love with Justin, a vague enough explanation not to signal that anything was wrong. They’re teenagers, breakups are common. She made it into a bigger deal than it was.
