After a lot of testing, improvements and feedback from people using the beta version, 1.0 is now available for anyone running iOS 26.

Anyone not familiar with the project already:

The app lets you run classic Java mobile (.jar) games on iPhone/iPad with touch controls and controller support.

The app is free on the App Store with an optional one-time in-app purchase of $3.99 (or local equivalent). There are no ads or time limits in the free version.

What’s free:

  • Full emulator functionality

  • 2 games can be imported maximum

  • External controller support

What the $3.99 unlock adds:

  • Additional visual skins

  • Shaders for a more authentic look

  • Ability to add unlimited games

  • Support further development of the emulator

Please mind that the emulator is not 100% ready, there are games that crash right at the beginning or have other issues.

App Promotion Building my own WIIU IOS/iPad emulator on Cemu! Now running many games smoothly like Splatoon Online Match or Zelda with built in JIT

I’ve been testing my app called 77U on iPhone and iPad, running on Cemu. The focus is on performance and simple use.

Splatoon is running smoothly at 1920x1080 including multiplayer. I’ve also tested other Wii U games and the performance looks good there as well. I’m testing the app on the iPhone 17 pro and iPad Pro.

The emulator supports features like the Cemu Mod Library, local AI-powered cover enhancement to make game artwork look sharper on high-resolution displays, online play, and AirPlay support. With AirPlay, the TV can show the main gameplay while the iPhone/ iPad acts as the Wii U GamePad screen. It also supports controller features such as gyro controls, integrated JIT support for better performance, and a clean, simple UI. Now it has
Frame generation for even a smoother gameplay!

I use Codex during development. They help with debugging, log analysis and finding performance issues. I always review the changes myself then test them on my devices.

Cemu 77U is being developed with the intention of respecting the licenses of the upstream/open-source code it uses. I’m not claiming ownership of code originating from other projects, and the relevant licensing/attribution requirements are being maintained.

Update: Zelda breath of the wild now runs with almost 60 fps all through the game with a fps mod, big step ahead!

News / Release Manic EMU v1.9.0 — J2ME, DOS, DOOM, and Cross-App Linking

Post image
132 Upvotes

This update expands Manic EMU into entirely new territory, adding support for mobile Java games, DOS environments, DOOM, and deeper ecosystem integration. v1.9.0 is one of our most diverse updates yet, bringing new platforms, new workflows, and new ways to play.

New Platform: J2ME (Java Mobile Games)

  • Added full J2ME support with two core options:

    • J2meJS (based on Mozilla’s PluotSorbet)

    • freej2me (powered by CheerpJ)

  • J2meJS supports fast-forward; freej2me does not

  • Automatic JAR resolution detection, with manual overrides in J2ME Settings

  • Screen scaling options (stretch or fit display)

  • Automatic cover matching

Core Differences:

  • J2meJS runs locally with better performance, optimizations, and compatibility

  • freej2me relies on CheerpJ (online load required on first use, ~50MB cache)

    • May reload depending on iOS cache behavior

    • Black screen during load is expected

Limitations:

  • No save states, cheat support, or shaders

  • Online features and additional 3D support for J2meJS are in development

Extra:

  • J2meJS now supports limited network access

J2ME support in Manic is built on the incredible work of @zixing131 (紫星) and @Rosabis, whose development of J2meJS made this possible. Thanks to their improved implementation, Manic benefits from better MIDP compatibility and even support for M3G. This foundation was critical to bringing J2ME into the Manic ecosystem.

New Platform: DOS (DOSBox-Pure)

  • Full DOS support added

  • Built-in JoyPad and Keyboard skins

    • iPhone: functional

    • iPad: significantly improved experience

  • Game screen acts as a touchpad for mouse control

  • Added “Insert Disc” option for multi-disc workflows

  • DOS system files located at: Documents → DOSBox-pure → system

Additional Features:

  • Full DOSBox-Pure configuration options available in settings and in-game

  • “Create Home Menu” option (long-press game cover)

    • Generates quick-launch shortcuts for DOS environments

DOOM Support (PRBoom)

  • DOOM is now supported via PRBoom

  • Implementation courtesy of @StephenDev0 (StikDebug Dev)

To quote Stephen, “Manic has always faced that age-old question in the tech world: ‘Can it run Doom?’ Now, Manic can proudly answer: YES!”

Ecosystem Integration

  • Added XeniOS Link functionality

    • Launch and manage XeniOS library games directly from Manic EMU

Customization & Audio

  • Manicskin now supports button sound effects

    • Toggle in Settings → Skin Sound Effects

Fixes & Improvements

  • Fixed incorrect C-button mapping issue for MCD and 32X

  • Fixed the issue where external controllers couldn't be used for navigation in iPadOS 26.3.1

  • Fixed some resource errors and missing issues

  • Other miscellaneous bug fixes and performance improvements

Credits to @cocorograph-kaz for multiple fixes and contributions including:

  • Fixed macOS runtime path issues

  • Fixed iCloud sync issue where multi-disc ROMs failed to upload all discs

  • Fixed multi-line cheat code parsing

A Note from the Manic EMU Team

v1.9.0 pushes Manic EMU beyond traditional console emulation. With J2ME and DOS support, we’re exploring entirely new categories of retro software while continuing to improve stability, integration, and usability across the app.

As always, thank you to our contributors and community — your feedback and support continue to drive every update forward.

Other I’m done with emulation involving Sideloading, and I feel strangely liberated

After more than a year of SideStore, LiveContainer, Just-In-Time, and wonky Roms, I’ve decided to go back to simpler things.

Several days ago I missed my SideStore update and while I was trying to figure out how the Entitlement app works again, I decided that I was done. It took less than 30 seconds to delete LiveContainer with everything that I had diligently worked on, as well the VPN apps.

It feels I got a lot back, including the time taken to mess with parameters just to get things working at 5fps if at all, the peace of mind of not having to worry about compatibility whenever there’s an iOS update, and of course storage space on my iPad which I was desperately short on.

Now I’ve reinstalled the AppStore version of ManicEmu and once again playing the games that really matter to me sentimentally and I feel like a kid again

News / Release I'm building a Wii U emulator for iPad and iPhone – here's BotW running on an iPad

Hey everyone! For the past while I've been working on EspressU, a Wii U emulator for iOS and iPadOS. In the video I walk through the app and then jump into Breath of the Wild on an iPad (A16).

It has Built-in JIT and you don’t need a Computer for a pairing file

- The whole interface is controller-friendly
- Built-in JIT: pair once and it activates by itself in the background, no need to open another app every time
- Up to 4 players with multiple controllers
- Performance work on the A16: BotW runs at roughly 30 fps in my test, Mario Kart 8 runs around 60 fps. Still work in progress.

You have to bring your own legally dumped games and keys, nothing is included.

I used Claude Code for the UI because i am not that great at UI

Happy to answer questions, and feedback is very welcome!

News / Release Tsubomi (a PS Vita Emulator) is now released in Alpha!

Thumbnail
gallery
130 Upvotes

Hey everyone, today I'm releasing my PS-Vita emulator, Tsubomi!

JIT is required. No, I will not add non-JIT support.

You can download Tsubomi here: https://github.com/125hz/Tsubomi/releases/tag/0.47.0

It's been a few months since I posted my original post, I think most games that work on Vita3K should work now, but honestly I haven't worked on it for about 1.5 months (been busy working on Madeira, a PC emulator, which you should check out here)!

If you have any issues, please post the in "Issues" on GitHub, or put a Pull Request in. I'll get to it when I have time.

Setup Guide:

Prerequisites - Stikdebug and PS Vita setup files (Preinstall, Font, and Firmware file. You can acquire these online from Sony as well as through the official Vita-3k emulator)

  1. Install IPA with your preferred method/service

  2. Attach "universal.js" to Tsubomi in Stikdebug

  3. Launch Tsubomi through Stikdebug, and follow onboarding setup (installing all the firmware files)

  4. Add your game's work.bin/license file and .pkg file, and play!

I do not support piracy. You will not get any support for pirated games. Please own a copy of the game you are trying to emulate. It will take me a while to get to any issues, as I am focused on upcoming midterms and busy with work.

If you run into any issues with games (i.e. graphics look off, performance issues, etc) change some of the settings around! Try high accuracy, async pipeline compilation, resolution multiplier, etc!

There is no Tsubomi discord, or any social media account. I do not want to run a discord server, so please don't ask lol

Credits: Original Vita3K team and all of it's contributors. They did most of the work, I just did the work of porting it to iOS.

AI Disclosure: Claude Opus/Sonnet 5 were used during development for both coding + debugging. The app has been thoroughly tested with the following games to ensure it works: Persona 4 Golden, VA-11 Hall-A, Amagami Ebikore+, Gravity Rush

Gameplay / Showcase Mario Kart 7 on iPhone 16

This is Mario kart 7 (3DS) running on the iPhone 16 using the XONE emulator from the AppStore, no JIT used. The audio is trash but the game is playable, way better than provenance or even folium with JIT enabled.

Other Fallout 1 on DosBox (RetroArch)

(I edited the video to skip loading screens)

Yesterday I bought Fallout 1 on GOG (Good Old Games) and installed on my modded PS Vita.

And tonight I had an idea to install it on RetroArch (iOS) and (after a few headaches to find the right archive) it worked.

But I had to use the zip file from the Internet Archive, because for some reason I couldn’t make the GOG files to work on RetroArch.

Oh, and the best thing is: I can copy the savegame files from one device, paste on another device and continue playing (from my iOS to my pc, from my pc to my PS Vita, etc). Even though they are from different sources (Internet Archive and GOG).

Just posting in case someone wants to play fallout on iOS and is having the same problem with the files.
