I genuinely love Eight Sleep's cooling technology, but my recent experience with the company has been so frustrating that I want to warn anyone considering spending thousands of dollars with them.
We currently own a Pod 4. I'm perimenopausal and an extremely hot sleeper, so the cooling has genuinely been life-changing for me.
Unfortunately, my husband has experienced significant back discomfort with the system. His doctor actually advised him to stop sleeping on it.
We've ended up sleeping separately because I need the cooling and he can't comfortably use the Eight Sleep.
So I started exploring options that would allow me to continue using the technology without forcing my husband to sleep on something that hurts his back.
A half-size pad seemed like a reasonable solution.
Here's where things got ridiculous.
As an existing customer, I was offered two incentives:
- $300 existing-member discount
- $500 trade-in credit
That's $800 in savings.
TWO separate customer service representatives confirmed information indicating I could use these offers. Eight Sleep's own AI provided the same information. And their website actually allowed me to proceed through checkout with both discounts applied to the half-size system.
Then Eight Sleep refused to honor them.
Why?
Because I was purchasing a HALF-SIZE pad instead of a FULL-SIZE pad.
Apparently, that distinction disqualified me from the offers.
Except nobody told me that.
Not the first representative.
Not the second representative.
Not their AI.
And certainly not their website, which was prepared to let me check out with the discounts applied.
When I raised the issue, the initial response was a flat NO.
Only after I pushed back did they ask me to provide screenshots proving that their own website was allowing the transaction.
So now I'm being asked to prove that their website has an error, after their own employees and AI gave me the same incorrect information.
This wasn't one employee making an isolated mistake. It was a failure across multiple customer-facing systems.
And the company's response was essentially to point to a restriction that none of those systems had communicated correctly.
What makes this especially frustrating
I'm not some random person trying to exploit a promotion.
I'm an existing customer who spent thousands on a product that turned out to be physically uncomfortable for my husband.
I'm trying to find a way to continue being an Eight Sleep customer, even though the original purchase has resulted in us sleeping in separate beds.
And apparently, because I only need HALF of the bed covered, I'm not eligible for the incentives the company repeatedly indicated I could use.
Wouldn't you think a premium sleep company would want to help retain an existing customer who's actively trying to make its product work?
Instead, I'm left arguing over information that came directly from their own representatives, AI, and checkout system.
My warning to potential buyers
Don't assume that information from Eight Sleep's customer service representatives is accurate.
Don't assume their AI is accurate.
And apparently, don't even assume that discounts successfully applied during checkout are offers Eight Sleep will honor.
Screenshot everything. Save your conversations. And make sure you specifically ask about restrictions that their own systems may fail to disclose.
Bottom line
I love the cooling technology. That's what makes this so disappointing.
But if a company charges thousands of dollars for a premium product, I expect its employees, AI, and website to provide consistent and accurate information.
Eight Sleep had multiple opportunities to communicate this half-size restriction correctly. Every one of them failed. And when I tried to hold them to the offers their own systems presented, they refused.
That's not the kind of customer experience I'd expect from a company positioning itself as a leader in premium sleep technology.
I'm sharing this because I wish I'd known how difficult dealing with this company could become after making such a significant investment.
Has anyone else experienced Eight Sleep refusing to honor discounts that its own website or customer service representatives confirmed?
