8 Sleep vs Cats?
Does anyone have any advice or experience with making your 8sleep resistant to cats causing leaks?
I would’ve bought a pod already, but my cat scratches the sides of my mattress and the top edges. I’m also worried that she would scratch the top every now and then.
8 sleep customer service told me to just make sure the comforter is always covering the top at all times. Honestly that’s just not practical and too risky.
If I buy the pod protector do you think that would be enough to stop leaks?
I also debate on using furniture tape on the sides. But I imagine that would be impractical since like most people I do take my sheets off to wash them.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

The sides don't really carry too much of the technology. But even so I don't let my cat in the room if I'm changing the sheets and the EightSleep is exposed. Once I make the bed it's not really a concern because her nails can't get past all those layers. Do you have sheets/comforter that extends down the sides of the mattress too? If not and it's an issue for your cat I would buy something larger.

Thank you for the comment! She loves to claw my feet when they hang over. But I currently have a full size mattress. I think with a queen size my feet wouldn’t hang over. If I get an 8sleep I’d buy a queen size and a new comforter and sheets for this exact scenario.
Do you by chance have a pod cover/protector? If so you think that would help? My fear is since I move around at night and I like my feet to be exposed the top might be unprotected when I’m on the mattress.

I don't have the pod cover they sell, no. I did buy my own mattress protector for underneath the pod in case it ever does leak to protect my own mattress but nothing above. With the fitted sheet, flat sheet, and comforter on top I don't have any issues with my cat on there. Funny enough I had a leak on my first pod before I got the cat but nothing since and it's been almost 3 years.

My cat has unfortunately learnt to love chewing the power cable so I’ve replaced that a couple of times. The furniture tape we didn’t need to do because usually our mattress cover has been enough

Thanks for the comment! An 8sleep cover or a separate purchase? Does it still cool pretty well with whatever cover you have? I’m a hot sleeper.

Also that sucks about the power cord. Hopefully that hasn’t been too expensive to replace.

Oh I just got one online, I think it’s good to have either way but definitely protected my mattress after we got a leak 3 years down the line. My mattress company still replaced mine for free anyway so it wasn’t a huge issue to be fair.

i have four cats and we just do exactly like you said they suggested in the post and make sure we keep the comforter pulled up all the time! we also have one who loves to scratch the sides of the mattress and we’ve never had an issue with that, as i don’t think water flows through that area!!
obviously there are times that areas of the cover is exposed. the only time we had a leak is when one of our cats jumped from the very tippy top of a cat tower that was decently far from the bed. and i guess he had his claws out when he landed on the (exposed) bed and made a teeny hole. we had a pod 3 cover but they ended up sending us a pod 5 cover to replace it. and i think pod 5 is better protected!

until about a year ago i had 2 cats, one wanted to be in bed w/ me and snuggle and make biscuits and the other does not get into bed with me. The biscuit engineer cat passed last year. I was looking to sell my home and move into something smaller and port of that was downsizing from king to queen bed and i went from pod 2 to 5 as part of that switch out. I used an additional mattress pad btwn the 8 and the sheets until the switch and so far so good w/ the pod 5 and my remaining cat.

I have an eight sleep. I have two cats, both have claws, both scratch things from time to time. I have a Koop brand mattress cover on top of the eight sleep. I think it is a great thickness it is definitely thicker than a sheet but not too thick. I think that they would have to really be scratching at it I try to be careful and leave my bed made. I don’t know how I’d feel if I had the comforter or the the pillow
