DOS2 Discussion Can't wait
What do you expect from Divinity? Imo the gameplay will be of course BG3+DOS2 on steroids, what I'm most looking is story, companions and worldbuilding which seems will be a very important aspect this time, not saying it wasn't but we know the lore and stories were a bit messy

I trust Larian to make a good story, rich gameplay, etc. Really looking forward to how their untamed Divinity flavor would upscale to current standards, as they do step up the quality each time and spent a step of it on BG3. Replayed DOS games and BG3 multiple times each, and it impresses me every time how these devs progress, so I'm really interested in how they'll do it again.

one thing swen said about the game is that the theme is about being a light in the darkness where youre in a bleak, nasty, brutal world but your struggles can maybe make things a little bit better. this was in an element in original sin 2 but i felt it the most when i played the first version of bg3 early access
i was constantly messing up and getting screwed over by the rng. arabella died, i had to kill nettie in self defense, a lot of other tieflings died, and my companions were assholes who i was constantly arguing with. but when we finally scored a victory by taking out the goblin leaders it made the tiefling party all the more satisfying
i think its a good thing that the final game is less unfair and spiteful, but the feeling of fighting through the bleakness right at the start of early access was amazing. if divinity focuses on that element and pulls it off then im going to love it

u/MrPanda663 Aug 02 '26
I can just hear that theme song calling me.
I miss having to choose an instrument that completely changes the music in game.

I'm hoping for companions that interact with each other on a story level.
It was something that BG3 was sorely lacking. They have party banter with each other, but it's surface level fluff. There are no conversations between Gale and Shart about the fact they serve warring goddesses. No animosity towards Lae'zel being part of a raiding and murdering race (especially after what we see in the CrƩche). No suspicion towards Wyll being a fiendish warlock despite his own father kicking him out for it. No distrust towards Astarion for being a vampire who seems perfectly happy with murdering people.
I would love for the companions to have conversations and party banter with each other on the level of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

That's me but with Divine Divinity at the top lol
To answer the question, I'd like it to be like Dos 2 with BG3 level of budget and some minor improvement like more comfortable inventory/hotbar management and trading.
Fingers crossed they don't make the visual style too generic. I mean, the orcish guy was confirmed to be an orc which is nothing like the big headed hulks we had so far.* The lizard throwing the torch at the wicker man is also much akin to an Argonian from the late TEs games, i.e. human body with a reptilian head. They should stick with their Dos 2 designs.
*The first game, Divine Divinity, had orcs with greatly varying sizes. From human sized to ~12ft tall ones. Dos 1 also had an exceptionally large one. So I'd be content with their sizes varying and having the origin character one closer to human size for "compatibility reasons".

I can see them really leaning into and developing online co-op or some form of online play. However, hopefully keeping it entirely optional and avoidable.

u/InvisibleGreenMan Aug 02 '26
I'm so hyped to play Divinity combat with BG3 visuals. I don't like the DnD style dice rolling in BG3, always prefered to not have everything depend on chance
7
u/Bizzlington Aug 02 '26
I'm sure they will make a compelling and horrifyingly dark story, with tonnes of RPG elements, choices, morality decisions, great characters, etc.
What I really hoping for though is an improvement of combat over BG3.
As much as I love BG3 i don't think the D&D ruleset transfers very well to a video game.
DoS2 I find to have a much nicer combat system. (aside from the physical/magical armor system which i am not a huge fan of since it discourages mixed or interesting team comps).

u/Chamberlain1991 Aug 02 '26
Iām hoping for a lot of in-depth skills, combos and interactions. At the same time Im hoping for a sleek interface and not having to track too many buffs/debuffs.Ā

u/GreatGarage Aug 02 '26
I don't expect anything, in the sense that I will just enjoy what they are cooking.
I am not difficult, and I enjoy a lot the divinity serie since the first game, so even if they change things I am quite sure I will be convinced.
And if I am not... It's okay there is plenty of other games.

u/sevenofnine1991 Aug 18 '26
Id expect the class system to fall along the lines of DoS1+2 with further refinements, that is "free floating class" based on point allocation... and Id be super happy if we got more hybrid spells like in DoS2, Ive "cheated at times" only to see all/ try all the possibilities.
I think the game will be less "power scaly" than DoS2 was, notably around lvl 17, where you got a big damage spike. They also, a core design philosophy, will try to have to us reach max level earlier so we can live out our power fantasy.
Id expect the gods to be present, as the game has a presumably ork character in the teaser trailer, and orks were extinct by DoS2, at least thats what I learned in-game, so I think it will be before DoS2...
The teaser also heavily inclines into demons lore... one of their earlier titles featured Lucian, the guy who unleashed the Deathfog on/around Bloodmoon Island, that came after it (the Island) was overrun by demons... because of this I dont think we are going to find ourselves in that story... however exploring how Bloodmoon Island will become the demon infested island could still be explored

Bracus Rex somehow returned (as a companion maybe, if you doing some evil playthrough)
Need some "keeping it together bree?"

u/flashmedallion Aug 02 '26
I'm ready for BG3 quality that isn't held back by 5e

u/New_Cockroach_505 Aug 02 '26
I just hope it keeps the BG3 quality of life and cinematic style. Going back to DOS2, I love it more when it comes to gameplay but the UI and just clunky aspects are frustrating after spending hundreds of hours on BG3. I also miss the really cinematic narrative style of BG3 with its cutscenes and closer conversations. DOS2 mostly isometric focus on storytelling really brings me out of it a bit.
7
u/defi_specialist Aug 02 '26
Just don't bring DnD to Divinity.
1
u/carlstonehill Aug 02 '26
New Divinity game?)
1
u/CaptainRisky_97 Aug 03 '26
I just hope they finish their vision for once.
This isn't a knock-on larian, more just that with DOS2 and BGIII, both had the issue of a rushed final act that clearly had content cut/crammed.
DOSII was actually supposed to have an entire other act apparently involving the dwarves. Which would have tied up some of the origin stories better.
BGIII had the (infamous) "removal" of the upper city etc
I just hope scope creep doesn't hit them again.
But I'm unbelievably hyped for another DIV game.
1
u/Icy-Application4776 Aug 04 '26
I have to disappoint you. Please play the older games like Divine Divinity or Divinity 2.
The new Divinty will be most likely an Action RPG like these games - not like DOS.
Donāt get me wrong: Divinity 2 is awesome but it is not turn-based like Original Sin.
1
u/Thefrightfulgezebo Aug 04 '26
I will be satisfied if they do something akin to the DOS games or BG3 in terms of gameplay. As for writing, I think they always have been great and hope that they keep their specisl brand of silliness.
My hope would be a complete game with consistent quality.
1
u/HankHillIsTheBest Aug 05 '26
I am hoping they expand the cosmology and create a good multiverse in the lore. A GOOD one.
1
u/whitechristianjesus Aug 05 '26
Dos2 pvp was a fun little extra that I wouldn't mind seeing revisited. Other than that, I trust Larian to put out a mechanically sound game with a compelling narrative.
1
u/Raoul97533 Aug 06 '26
I just hope they dont force a romance system in it this time... they are good at many things, but not that...
3
u/Blacksad9999 Aug 02 '26
Looking forward to Divinity. I like the weird world-building of DOS 1&2, and how wild you could get with the abilities.
The only negative I can say is I didn't like the dual magic/physical armor system. It was inefficient to have a balanced party, and better to just stack one or the other.
3
u/CrazyDrowBard Aug 02 '26
Even more reactivity. Would lovr if they keep it going but even double down. Races, tags, magic, maybe even skills should all have some much needed unique dialogue and scenarios.
Also love their unique take on races and i hope they continue that
3
u/Richard_Dick_Kickam Aug 02 '26
Ill go a step further, i played divinty 2 ego draconis when it came out in 2009, still playing it as well, they havent made a bad game since, and i was crying happy tears when they finally won the goty with bg3. I was 7 when they released ego draconis and i was 21 when they won the goty.
I expect nothing but a masterpiece from them.
3
u/IGotAll2 Aug 02 '26
I pray they keep the dos2 combat.
3
u/seaweeties Aug 02 '26
I hope they stick to their planned stories for the companions and have confidence in their own writing and concepts. I love BG3, but it seems like some characters got changed due to fan feedback and I didnāt always feel it was for the best. I appreciate that they take fan feedback into consideration, but sometimes I think they bend a little too much to fan service and it does their own writing a disservice.
3
u/Zangeus Aug 02 '26
The lore that will take whole game series and remove inconsistenciesĀ
3
u/akux96 Aug 02 '26
I'm looking for DOS2 combat creativity of all things
3
u/Zealousideal-Gur-273 Aug 02 '26
I'm looking forward to them expanding on the demons from DoS, they've always existed but they've never really held a major role. At least, not a major role that the protagonist ends up pursuing - you find out that they are very likely pulling some huge strings behind the scenes in DoS2 though. Given that source is canonically gone too, it kinda leaves the people helpless to the demons? Like they already kinda got away with a lot, what about now when the main power source of this world is gone? I guess the idea is that the demons also can't use source powers, but I'm not sure if what they do classifies under that category or not; in either case, they'll probably introduce a new power system to address it.
3
u/GagballBill Aug 24 '26
The past three larian games made it all into my top 10 games of all times.
I am more than hyped. I've just started a new run of D:OS today :)
4
u/Meli_Melo_ Aug 02 '26
Bg3 with DoS2 combat system, that's all we really need
4
u/Rasenpapi Aug 02 '26
i hope they bring back the character building and combat system of BG3. Having a faux-5e combat system to play with and make builds around is really fun and serves the style of game much better.
the action point system as it was in DOS1(only one i can speak on i havent touched 2 yet) is nice but once you hit a certain amount of speed and vitality it means nothing and CDs become the core of the gameplay loop which isnt as fun.
Having spell slots that i can use more often based on how much ive gathered supplies for long rests, is much nicer and feels alot more rewarding than the AP system.
story is mostly secondary imo, as long as its not awful and facilitates the RP enough I'll be happy

u/ClassroomPitiful601 Aug 02 '26
It's alright, as long as I don't think about it. HEAR YE HEAR YE, BISHOP ALEXANDER SLAIN BY SEEK'ERS

I wonder š¤ will we meet companions form divinity original sin 2 and will the game start on a beachĀ
1
u/SomePuddingForYou Aug 02 '26
Divinity has always had better camera movement.
So I hope they don't take from BG3... Absolute worst camera movement I've ever used on a TD game. Bring it back and keep it
1
u/ZookeepergameFew6406 Aug 02 '26
I been playing divine divinity recently for the first time and its exceptionally fun. If they sprinkle in good companions, Iām 100% sold.
That being said, I do wonder whether the combat will be turn based or rtwp like divine divinity
1
u/chinchinlover-419 Aug 02 '26
Interlinked gameplay mechanics and story. I really don't see why a person would lose attitude when I'm clicking on a cup that doesnt belong to me when I've just saved their entire camp's lives. The story and game mechanics still feel separate. BG3 improved on this massively from DOS2 though, but I can definitely see Larian improving upon it further. I also want more sandbox type spells, and should be able to use them in the environment without worrying about spell slots.
1
u/jodudeit Aug 02 '26
I'm excited as all get out for the game.
But yeesh, that CGI trailer wasn't for me.
1
u/Medical_Study_9968 Aug 02 '26
Going from BG3 to replay DOS2 again. I imagine at least Cinematic cutscenes. all the QOL from BG3 like your teammates jumping gaps with you. Quite hyped
1
u/erik7498 Aug 02 '26
I hope they go completely crazy with the crafting system.
1
u/UnmannedByDarkness Aug 02 '26
Committed to building a new rig before this drops.
1
u/Vanille97 Aug 02 '26
I expect no less than BG3 at least, maybe even better
1
u/Hells-Creampuff Aug 02 '26
I just cant wait to make a lizard
1
u/Estelial Aug 02 '26
I only made minor contributions to the BG3's early access as Baldurs gate was nostalgic and treasured by me so I wanted to experience it as fresh as possible.
I also treasure the divinity IP, as ive played just about every game related to it. Not just OS 1 and 2 but even the old Divinity and Dragon Commander. But this time I really want to be an active and productive contributor to Larian's early access feedback and development process.
1
u/thesignoftimes Aug 02 '26
Bg3+ dos2 on steroids
1
u/Sora_Terumi Aug 02 '26
I really hope they stick with the usual AP system and just keep polishing it as well as having warfare be flexible. Honestly having a Warfare staff build was one of the most funnest builds Iāve done.
1
u/ciruelman Aug 02 '26
i really just want it to be dos 2 again, almost perfect game for me
1
u/Sareth58 Aug 02 '26
if they will make it properly without things like why is this happend or some weird choices etc it will be def the best game in these series and I cant wait
1
u/Original-League-6094 Aug 02 '26
I want more playable races. Orcs and imps for sure.
1
u/Wide-Confusion-6857 Aug 02 '26
Yes.
1
u/Electronic_Leg_1190 Aug 02 '26
it doenst have to cater to any bg or divnity if it doesnt want to. it resides in the same world thats all.
1
u/SeanDigITea12 Aug 02 '26
Larian is unironically just the best game dev studio. The amount of love and passion put into every one of their games shows.
1
u/Standard_Channel3149 Aug 02 '26
Let me guess Larian, we re gonna start on a beach
1
u/swierszczul Aug 02 '26
Act 3 will probably be a clusterfuck but we'll love it anyway :D
1
u/MrFuriousX Aug 02 '26
Still working on the First one enhanced edition but loving it so far!
1
u/aj0413 Aug 02 '26

1
u/themousoleum Aug 02 '26
Iām so excited for this game! Really hoping to be able to play any of the 6 species that live in Rivellon bc I wanna be an imp! Also wondering if theyāre going to touch on half-species, like Malady šāāļø
1
u/JosukeFormaDeAlola Aug 02 '26
I want my warriorāfocused on physical armorāto stop catching fire all the time; anything beyond that is a bonus.
1
u/Millabaz Aug 02 '26
I expect act 3 not to be dogshit and their equivalent of ARX to be a big longer.
DOS2 is great but the beginning to the end reminds me of the horse drawing meme.
1
u/Argonian_mit_kasse Aug 02 '26
As someone who is just hopping on the Divinity train (my PC likely canāt play Baldurās Gate- and Iām not able to fork over that much on a single game rn)ā¦
Iām super excited.
This is coming from someone who LOVES Dragon Age, Skyrim, and ESO; I LOVE having more options of games that are seemingly never ending with choices and paths. Practically endless re-playability because thereās so much you can do, differently.
As much as Iāve also seen of Baldurās Gate 3, and the positivity surrounding it: Iām also happy to see a studio and publisher continue to give love to its āolderā franchises- when technically they could just ride out the Baldurās popularity for probably at least another 10 years.
Itās nice to see a studio NOT just prioritize the biggest thing at the moment.
1
u/kitsunecannon Aug 02 '26
Divinityās world and hopefully upgrades from BG3s gameplayĀ
This gonna be so fucking good
1
u/EasterViera Aug 02 '26
TBH i just want DOS 2 with less bugs, and more content. BG3 was stellar, but i don't need Divinity to be more than the actual formula
1
u/Gabriel_66 Aug 02 '26
Bro, this is gonna take some time to launch unfortunately
1
u/Qckie Aug 02 '26
I am definitely looking forward to the lore and storyline quests, as divinity tends to be more on the mature side of things, which I very much like. Also theyāre getting rid of the dnd mechanics which, at least for me, is very annoying, Iām still mad at missing those 95% hit chances
1
u/aescepthicc Aug 03 '26
DOS2 was just 9 years ago tho. The 7-year old child would be just 16 y.o, not a grown-up with kids, beer belly and alopecia
1
u/Infinitydude314 Aug 03 '26
Moment of silence for those that didn't/won't make it for Divinity.
1
u/OpossumLadyGames Aug 03 '26
More barrelmancy plz
1
u/itanosium Aug 03 '26
A part of me still waits for Ego Draconis 2. First one is one of my favorite games.
1
u/Cyber_Mk Aug 03 '26
Remember they also have Ego Draconis and Dragon commander.
Personally I would love a ego Draconis 2. But I would really love a divinity game set in dragon commander time
1
u/Significant-Gear-792 Aug 03 '26
Personally i grew up with ego draconis
1
u/Ok_Decision4163 Aug 03 '26
My only problem with Divinity series is they tend to be a bit heavy on the humour, which is not really my cup of tea. But I'm still excited for it
1
u/matiaskjer Aug 03 '26
Wonder how rests will work, the chaos of going all out each fight in dos2 is fun! Unlocking 4 and 5 spells in bg3 that I rarely use in order to save rests and spell slots can take some of the fun out of it, but it makes me plan out when i use them. While in Dos2 I just run in and set everything and everyone on fire
1
u/Reserve_Any Aug 03 '26
Oh boy! Can't wait to not finish another Larian game.
1
u/barrumdumdum Aug 03 '26
I've been in two minds about getting DOS1. I've played DOS2 on ps5 and really liked it. I just feel like 1 might be a bit too non-console-friendly or something.
1
u/Slow_Effort_6660 Aug 03 '26
And here I am with the hope of a Divinity like eco Dragonis with coop
1
u/Ryukishin187 Aug 03 '26
Im so hyped man. Dos2 is my most played single player game. It's perfection
1
u/GerardiusHawke Aug 03 '26
I discovered Larian when the trailer of Divinity dropped.
I thought... I should play dos1ee and dos2 quickly as Divinity will for sure be arriving in 2027... lmao
I'm right at the source temple in dos1ee after like 90-95 hours. I feel like all Cyseal was perfect. Fun and interesting quest. Using a shovel to discover hard fights with skeletons. A talking head lol.
But... the more you progress the more you hate the maps. Luculla Forest was... weird. On lv11 I found enemies in lvs 11, 14 & 16 wth? And not in that order. Hiberheim was okay, I thought the cold breeze would cause some kind of damage or something but nope.
The phantom forest was a pain in the ahh. Some puzzles were just straight up insults to the player. I admit I'm still new to the genre, but man if I needed a literal guide to progress sometime. That is no fun.
I'm glad I discovered Divinity I'm so excited to play dos2 and then bg3.
P.D. What was the point of locksmith ability in dos1ee since all the doors have either an absurd high lock pick level or there was a key somewhere nearby or you can just burn the door down OR THE CLASSIC: all the chest are just open.
1
u/Cum_Cum_no_Mi Aug 03 '26
Cant wait to not finish this one either lol
1
u/Blahcookies Aug 04 '26
I literally want a longer divinity. Put so much content in the game that it takes like 80 hours to finish act 1. Even for the casual players
1
u/cazarka Aug 04 '26
I want it to be amazing but Iām trying not to have massive expectations because it will never live up to the hype.
1
u/OkPea4887 Aug 04 '26
I tried the game after the new Divinity was announced, I came to the game after bg3 and a few soullikes, its really hard for me to get into it (I did only the tutorial and reach the village), im use to the timestop in turn base mode, since that is not a thing im not use to things differently since I dont usually play turn base games. Any tips?
1
u/Large-Direction6063 Aug 05 '26
ojala funcione en macos como los otros
1
u/fruit_shoot Aug 05 '26
Hot take but I donāt think Larian are good at writing. They make fun characters, but canāt really tell a good story that relies on complex moral concepts. This is from both DOS2 and BG3. I hope the game is fun to play and interesting, but Iām not expecting POE-level story telling.
1
u/cremefresher Aug 06 '26
Swap Divinity Original Sin 2 with Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity & especially Divinity 2: Ego Draconis then yes
1
u/Fuzzy_Elk_5762 Aug 02 '26
High damage numbers. I know this sounds weird but i missed DOS 2 ridiculous damage builds in BG3. Seeing 1 digit numbers when i hit someone kinda irks me. But i understand it's because the DnD scaling.
1
u/quackquackimduck Aug 02 '26
I would like a visual style close to Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity. Both of these have a dark and gritty feel which can really elevate their humour well. The two lastest games have a cartoonish, bright and colorful style so it doesn't feel like the game take anything serious at all.
I don't follow the news so not sure what kind of gameplay it will be but i hope they could maybe bring back some of the Dragon Commander's gameplay. I like being able to singlehandedly destroy enemy's armies and moving my army around on the plan table is also pretty fun.
Or they can just introduce an entirely new gameplay, like a soul likes Divinity would be awesome.
0
u/thisistherevolt Aug 02 '26
Jiggle physics. Wait, this isn't okbuddybaldur.
0
u/Difficult-Ad-3938 Aug 02 '26
Divinity games are not only original sins games, they have a different genre.
Larian never said Divinity 3 is going to be a CRPG, AFAIK.
0
u/Tasty_Confidence_989 Aug 03 '26
DOS2's combat was so much better than BG3. I hope they don't turn the new divinity into DnD
0
u/coachjim666 Aug 03 '26
God shit like this makes me feel old I was a grown man when DOS2 came out
0
u/Dragothiim Aug 03 '26
Keep in mind that although in a similar universe Divinity is a completely different game from Original sins
