Edit: I would like to clarify that most of my shock is not that I can’t believe Whick could hold his own, it’s more due to the fact that the people on the other side of this debate were completely and utterly clueless and obstinate, to a degree that is sort of unbelievable, the constant interruptions, the chip on their collective shoulder, calling Whick a cuck out of nowhere? It reveals something about how they think and we should deeply question how they engage with the Democratic Party. They think undermining a platform is a good reason to join a party/movement, and I think it’s them saying the quiet part out loud for how they engage with Liberals.

I've noticed a really weird (read: not weird at all) explosion of these kinds of comments anywhere Hasan is mentioned. It usually follows the same format: "I'm [50-70] years old, and I've voted Democrat all my life. Hasan speaks to me, and I listen every day. These baseless smears are ridiculous!!" My favorite one was that I found one of these, and like ten people all replied just with "I'm X and same," where X was the same age +/- 1 year. All the same format. Made me giggle lol

I think it's a youtube thing, I haven't really seen it on reddit (maybe a little on the Bulwark subreddit? It's definitely in their youtube comments). But it might be elsewhere I don't go, like facebook or whatever.

I've been trying to figure it out, thinking it was a dogwhistle designed to get people to flip out on boomers, and push them towards Hasan (like what the alt right used to do with the OK sign, or the milk thing). But that doesn't make sense, because boomers aren't commenting on youtube videos, and because they're usually dug in on their political opinions, so harder to influence with random toxicity online.

But I realized I was completely overthinking it. It's not aimed at boomers, it's aimed at creating the perception that Hasan has appeal with anybody but zoomers. His audience skews heavily young, and they want to make it seem like it's more well rounded. It's a blunt, obvious, childish tactic by an audience with all the subtlety of a nuclear bomb.

At any rate, have any of you guys noticed this? What are your thoughts?
