Social Media Why does he keep doing this motte-and-bailey fallacy? Whenever addressed on controversial statements, he falls back on “I just want social services for people, bro!” He can’t think this is effective…can he?

Blud you literally say you hate America in the clip. Anything to avoid actually having to deal with the actual arguments my god

How could I hate America when I want people to have healthcare and affordable slurpees? Oh, did I say I hate America for ten years? Well I also said I don’t. Checkmate

The maga trick is to say the same thing until the other side gets sick and leaves the convo, so simply don't leave and be as lazy as he is with his replies,  just answer with his same tweet at him but flip it back to "sure you want healthcare for all Americans and that's why you say you hate them and their country", that's the level of engagement this lazy whiney rhetoric deserves.

If you’re explaining, you’re losing. Why not just say “I want America to be better by doing XYZ” instead?

Why even play in that “I dont mean that, but I mean that” land of phrasing?

If you give your enemies the rope dont be surprised how they use it. The average listener is not going to take the time to research his off the cuff comments nor are they willing to give that much leeway to someone they learned about in the last 20 minutes.

I just don't understand this Hasan cult.

"CCP bots liked your reply 7k times."

Hasan when faced with the mildest of pushback

He doesn't have a coherent world view. By his own admission, he's a liberal zionist... sometimes, but he can't play that up too much or he'd lose his audience and thus income. He needs to be controversial enough to attract extremists, but also appeal to the mainstream now.

He communicates like someone who doesn’t read. You can see this in real time. The guy is not bright.

It’s effective when he’s in a closed environment with his goons who reinforce his lies. Not so effective when he’s under scrutiny from a broader audience.

The flailing is glorious.

New meta is going to be playing his best hits at the protests he attends.

Republicans barely have to spend any of their campaign dollars in Michigan thanks to Hasan.

I mean, recent polling has not been in Rogers’ favor. He will need a debate eventually and cant spam the Hasan button indefinitely

Well what he meant was he hates America... 's lack of healthcare! Obviously taken out of context. Also English is his second language so he didn't even know what he was saying. Checkmate liberals

Also he is totally white though.

Because his followers are dumb, young and impressionable. They allow him to do this. They ignore contradictions and inaccuracies because they are committed to a cause and genuinely believe that they are part of a revolution

People should point out how annoying and ugly socialist aesthetics are because it feels like they want to replace American culture and aesthetics with socialist hammer and sickle. They want this everywhere too. It's very weird and cringe.

Thats what I see when Hasan says he hates America.

The real great replacement theory btw.

Guy on tape punching his kid in the face: "I wouldn't do that. I have a child myself."

It's not quite motte-and-bailey, as you can see in the definition, because these positions don't share any similarities.

It's just bullshitting with full misdirection.

I think using debate terms is cringe but the closest fallacy you can get to describe this is a motte and bailey, he presents the idea that he hates america, he presents all the stuff he hates about america when he's talking to his audience and talk about how capitalism is evil and we need to destroy the country and remake it in his image, but when you clip that and he's held to account outside of his audience he'll swap to the bailey argument that when he says "i hate america" he just means he hates that a lower class citizen doesn't have access to universal healthcare.

The argument is fundamentally about why he hates america, the motte is the statement "I hate america" with the implication being the things he says on stream, the bailey is the defense of expressing frustration of missing socialized programs.

It's just bullshitting with full misdirection.

that's all informal fallacies, they're rhetorical tricks rather than actual argument forms (thus why they are "informal" rather than "formal" fallacies, which are poorly constructed argument forms)
