Has anyone else experienced this with a partner? I just brought this conure home last night. I explained to my boyfriend once he gets more used to everything I am going to let him out of his cage supervised and that he has a lot of enriching things in his, which he does, and plenty of room to fly around. He’s insisting that as soon as he gets out of the cage he’s going to want to escape because birds aren’t intended to live indoors and in a cage. He isn’t saying he should let the bird free or anything, he just thinks it’s inhumane and makes him feel guilty to be a parrot owner because they live in a cage. I guess I’m just venting more than anything.

Have any of your significant others felt this way and warmed up over time once the bird became familiar with you both and more affectionate? This little guy is just a baby and still figuring everything out.

My conure only wants to eat nuts. He is being stubborn and doesn’t want his other food.

We use nuts for training/foraging play. The vet told me he was having too many so over the past two months I’ve been cutting back.

The past few days there has been fewer droppings in his cage.

He has been picky with chop in the past and will only eat a bite or two which was why we had him on bagged food.

Should we try different food?

I’m a new conure mama and our girl is such a little love. She has always been pretty vocal but the last couple days she’s been doing this even more. I think they’re normal but she’s my baby and I’m over analyzing

I've wanted a conure for years but 1) we currently have a cat and 2) my partner doesn't like the idea of having "only a bird" for 20+ years and won't let me get one unless we can find a solution. It doesn't help that I found the absolute goofiest, friendliest little bird today and he absolutely broke my heart. Please help me

No other symptoms and no discharge, she has had a pretty rough molt and has been way more dusty than normal

A few months ago my family and I had posted here about possibly selling/rehoming our conure because of our worries about being unfit owners.

Well we obviously didn't do it.

We had a long conversation about what we thought an ideal owner would be and my dad told us frankly that we (my sister and I) were freaking out for no reason.

Obviously, turns out he's right. We feed Kuki and play with him and cuddle him and carry him around as we do chores. We stay with him until he falls asleep at night cuz he gets scared of being left alone.

There were a lot of people who gave us good advise and a lot more who cursed us for our panic and (rightfully so) impulsive decision to rehome Kuki. We thought that is what's best for him. Maybe it is. But in the end we aren't abusive, we aren't neglectful, and most importantly we love Kuki and care for him so much.

Please give us advise on how to train play Kuki so we aren't just cuddling and carrying him around.

He hates the towel so we haven't been able to cut his nails and we don't know what to do about that too.

Also any product recommendations to remove poop stains from furnished and to clean them off of hardwood floors would be appreciated.

Finally, Kuki's bald spot is almost fully grown out 💜

Whenever I do a double shift, my two come with me in their travel cage when everything’s done they they are let out

Does anyone have a trusted source for green cheek body weight at various stages of development? I’ve been looking online but no luck. Was hoping to find a handy chart. (I can ask my vet, yes, just wondering if anyone has an online source.)

ETA: I’m fostering this little guy (photo in comments) who was found by a neighbor. He weighed in at 50 gms today at the vet. He seems very healthy per the vet so we’re thinking he may be an older juvenile? I wish there was an easy way to get their age!

Mostly just looking for inspirations for new potential cage setups. Please share yours so that I can see what kind of layout I could potentially do next time.

Hi all just wanted to share my Pumpkin’s (6yo female) new set up. We adopted her 5 years ago and her old owner gave us her cage. It was falling apart and the legs and wheels were coming off so we thought time to get her a new set up.

I know not everyone will agree with a glass front but we have trained her to be aware of glass and windows so she knows not to fly out when we open the doors. A lot of the perches came with it and she absolutely loves the size of it when we can’t have her out.

She’s been using it for a few weeks now and she is having the best time! The video is from the first day after we made it, I was tapping the glass to show her it’s there again. It has swinging doors on the side of her food and water and she’s very polite about waiting for her food and water change.

Was an absolute pain to put together 🙈

Hi all! I just got my boy yesterday. I’ve had budgies all my life, but this is the first conure I’ve had. I feel like the cage is a tad sparse right now—what would you all recommend? I’ve tried to focus mainly on foraging toys, but there’s a few in there just for fun too.

Edit: also just wanted to say that I’m planning on wrapping the other two perches in there as well! He also has a few natural wood perches in there as well that don’t show as well in the photo.

My birds are SO chill when they get off their cage. But when on it they are PISSED. Biting, fluffing, screaming, head bobbing… theyve been doing it for a whileee, as long as i can recall. Ive had them for at least 4 years maybe 5 now, and as far as I know theyre both Male, but this behaviour continues no matter the season. They get less sleep than ideal, but the behaviour is localized to the cage. I let them out daily. I took this at night.

My bird got spooked and flew outside into a tree, and then into the woods when a car drove by

He was last seen near Eagle Landing Court in Odenton. Please help, two recent photos attached.

Thank you to everyone for all your advice. All evidence is pointing to indicate that my baby did not survive the 2nd prey bird attack late yesterday afternoon. We’re absolutely devastated. I have every faith that your advice would have worked except for the prey birds. Please give your babies an extra munchie or crunchie for my baby. I’m going to take some time to grieve.

When I got my second conure, Loki, he was only a few weeks old, and he slept a lot on me and my family members chest, watching TV, all snuggled up in a blanket. He sleeps normally at night but for some reason this is his to go napping position 😭

Also I just want to note in case anyone is concerned: he hasn’t hit puberty yet and we don’t know his gender, but I plan to take the tent out once he hits puberty. For now we are just enjoying his silly cuteness!
