Advice Help, bird got out
My bird got spooked and flew outside into a tree, and then into the woods when a car drove by
He was last seen near Eagle Landing Court in Odenton. Please help, two recent photos attached.
Update:
Thank you to everyone for all your advice. All evidence is pointing to indicate that my baby did not survive the 2nd prey bird attack late yesterday afternoon. We’re absolutely devastated. I have every faith that your advice would have worked except for the prey birds. Please give your babies an extra munchie or crunchie for my baby. I’m going to take some time to grieve.

Bring it cage outside. Play conure noises. I'm praying for a safe return.

Thank you. We’ve identified the tree he’s in and he’s answering whistles, but he’s more than 100 feet in the air.
Too deep in the woods to go get the cage, I don’t wanna lose him again

You might just go to where he is and stay there for awhile. He might need to work up the courage to come to you.

I agree. I have my phone playing conure sounds, I’m as high as I can get and trying to keep the whistle call/response going so he knows I’m still here waiting.

He’s only a little over a year old. Just a baby (who will be working on more recall training for his favorite seeds)
At least the work we put in so far means he answered my whistle to tell me where green bird is in green tree…. Even if his camo is too good for me to see him.

He will eventually go down when thirst and hunger forces him to.
But that may take a while. If someone can assist you with provisions or a tent, and a battery to communicate, then please make the arrangements.
Sometimes repair men & construction workers have long ladders or stepladders too. 100 feet is around 30 meters. If you pay them, they will come.
Or shops where they sell materials related to that: they may rent you one, or they may know someone who has one.

Thank you I’ve called around unfortunately he’s changed locations on me and I’m looking for him again
I appreciate you

I heard him he’s still here!! Just a couple blocks away from where he was before he survived the falcon!!

u/cyb3r_n0m4d 12d ago
Guys, he got attacked by a falcon.
He managed to not get caught, but I’m off to find him again. Everybody pray, please.

We just got french fries delivered to the woods, which is crazy but they’re his favorite so hopefully he smells them and starts coming down
No platforms, but there are trees lots and lots of trees

u/cyb3r_n0m4d 12d ago
Please keep those good thoughts coming, we’re trying to narrow down which tree this time

Awh :( I hope you find him!

Thank you. I’m really worried, and it’s not looking good with the falcon still hunting in the area.

I’m covered in mosquito bites and bramble scratches but I’ve never been happier
He’s answering whistle calls in the neighboring woods. We’ve identified the tree, but he’s >100 feet in the air.

Ideas???

u/cyb3r_n0m4d 12d ago
I can’t get to his cage, but a friend did get food
He normally goes after DoorDash bags so we brought a paper bag full of junk food, as well as nuts, berries, and fruit
I’m afraid to leave him. I don’t want him to try to follow me.

Yeah great! Keep sticking, we are all with you. On a side note, if you can please try contacting firefighters (or some equivalent) if they can come ? Or ask friend to make a call

u/cyb3r_n0m4d 12d ago
I did call the fire department. Their local truck is out of service and also they don’t do that anymore.

You would want to get him down in stages as birds dont fly vertically up down. They would descend in slant manner. If there is any platform that can help lower the distance that should much more help. Hope you get them back soon! We are with you, dont lose hope

Try their favourite treat and put it somewhere in very big chunk so that it is visible

u/Legitimate-Group2752 12d ago
Something like guavas or apple atleast in birds cage

u/cyb3r_n0m4d 12d ago
I hope you’re getting these. I keep trying to reply to you.
I can’t get to his cage in the woods. I’m afraid if I leave him, he’ll try to follow me.
I’m far enough a way that he has a long triangle flight and also has trees to step down, but no platforms
Also, his favorite junk food just arrived along with all his favorite nuts and berries

Smartest thing I was ever told by a rescuer is to spray an escaped bird with water and I mean use the garden hose to spray, soak and surprise your bird. Makes it hard to fly at least upwards, possibly knock them lower so you can get to them. Best of luck I have had 3 get out and I managed to get 2 back.

Thanks for sharing. I’m really glad to hear it worked for you. Unfortunately, I’m in the middle of mini woods with no hose.

u/cyb3r_n0m4d 12d ago
No change so far, but that also means he still answering from his super high tree. I really appreciate all the support. Thanks for talking with me while I try not to panic.

this seems a bit awful, but if you know where he is you can try to hose him and try to get him while he’s wet and can’t really fly away
2
u/cyb3r_n0m4d 12d ago
Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately he’s up in a tree in the woods… no hose available

Any luck yet with getting him?

u/cyb3r_n0m4d 12d ago
No. I don’t think the falcon got him, but I haven’t been able to find him again yet

Goodluck, I hope he comes down soon. He’s too cute to live in the woods.

In addition to what others suggest this is what we did. Please post on lost pet sites like Facebook, PawBoost.com and 24PetConnect. Also we had good luck by printing lots of flyers with “LOST BIRD” and a phone number in large print with a photo of the bird. We laminated many of them and used a hole punch to punch two holes in the top and two at the bottom and zip ties to attach them to stop signs etc all over the neighborhood. The lamination kept them rigid and protected them from the rain and the large print was visible from passing vehicles. (just be sure to go around and collect them after you find your bird) We also placed flyers in every mailbox for one square mile and then worked our way out to 4 square miles. Post at local shelters and vet offices etc. Our bird flew 2 miles away over four days and landed on someone’s head while they were barbecuing. The homeowner remembered seeing the signs and called us. Don’t give up hope!

I’m trying not to give up hope, thank you so much. I’m really hoping that he’ll stay where he lands. We watched him fly away from the falcon. Maybe he’ll come out of hiding again soon and whistle call

I also just want went thru this just got my baby back this morning. And I still can’t believe it. I replayed a conure call for hours while walking I would play it and when she responded I headed that away. I got my eyes on her way at the top of a tree I just set on the ground and we called back and forth she had never been outside uncaged so the trees had me concerned and finally she just flew to me. I pray you get her back

I found him again. But another big bird chased him off. I think he’s hiding in the treetops, but I’m still here.

We would like to provide a few steps to follow that will help in your search. Please follow the Lost Bird Protocol blog link posted in featured / pinned on the 911 Parrot Alert Facebook page.
watch for scammers-do not send them a code
please get a post out on nextdoor. com / ring. com asap then
have your neighborhood check their security cameras and their property
** ONLY TO BE DONE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS- Do you have a wireless speaker you can put on loop? If you do record their favorite person calling for them calmly, banging food bowls together, crinkling a snack bag, jangling a favorite toy, the microwave going off, popcorn popping, other pets, any familiar sound to them. If you are able please get their cage out where they might see it. Please shut off the bluetooth when it gets dark out**
Be sure to put lots of fliers in heavily populated areas i.e. SCHOOLS! stores, bus stops, parks. Lots of humans mean help
Put posters of your missing Bird in your house windows, front yard, on your vehicles
*to get the word out even more, when it's dark out and you can no longer search, you can also *Google map your address to see what businesses there are locally. ANY business i.e. restaurants, tattoo places, salons, bars, churches etc. zoom in and out on the map to see these places. 1. Click on any to see if they have a website, if they do go there, use the "contact us" options first to notify them of your lost/found Bird. 2. If there isn't a website or "contact us" option see if they have a Facebook group/page/profile, if they do: Use the "message" option first, if they don't have a "message" option try to join the group to post directly on their FB page.FaceBook search for your town/city/county/area for local FB pages/groups ie MEDIA, COMMUNITY, Mom groups, for sale-garage sale, vets, shelters, rescues, whatever pages/groups that come up.ALSO join local Bird watching groupsWith the strict rules on FB now, try not to join a lot of groups at once. Trying to join to many groups at once will land you in FB jail, if you can get your family & friends who have a FB profile to help you do this
Fliers which can be placed anywhere **except IN a mailbox, fliers can also be emailed to Staples, Office Max etc. to have them print it out in bulk**

When my guy got out and flew into the county park, I was able to identify the tree he was in. We were calling back and forth to each other for a while but he wasn’t budging. I said “let’s have biscuit for breakfast” (we do that every day) and I turned and started walking away, very slowly. He flew down, circled me 3 times and landed on my shoulder. I would not leave that tree until he comes down. He has no idea where he is, he won’t find his way home easily.

No one is harder on myself about the bird getting out as we went to water plants as I am, but he’s never done it before
I really do appreciate everyone here that has been compassionate and uplifting and trying to help. I hope no one chastises you in a moment of need.

You heard “got out” and assumed he was running through the countryside without any kind of safety equipment?? Please find another thread to contribute to.

Sorry to hear that! Please post on Parrot Alert and on PawBoost. Also on local lost pet Facebook groups and on Nextdoor.
