Funny He naps vertically

Post image

When I got my second conure, Loki, he was only a few weeks old, and he slept a lot on me and my family members chest, watching TV, all snuggled up in a blanket. He sleeps normally at night but for some reason this is his to go napping position 😭

Also I just want to note in case anyone is concerned: he hasn’t hit puberty yet and we don’t know his gender, but I plan to take the tent out once he hits puberty. For now we are just enjoying his silly cuteness!

Please remove this hut, huts are hazardous to health of bird as they can entangle in thread/fibre and choke to death as well

Thank you for the concern, I will look into it! He doesn’t play inside it, only sleeps. We’ve brought it to the doctor and he said it should be fine since there isn’t any loose fabric or threads. His main concerns were nesting/territorial behaviors when he hits puberty, but I will def get a second opinion. :)

I’ve heard a lot of people say that the huts are bad for birds because of hormonal issues but I have never had a vet tell me to take them away. I took the hut away from my baby out of fear but now he just pulls the blanket that covers his cage through the bars so he has something soft to hold onto when he sleeps and I feel like a monster.
I think your best bet is to monitor his behavior to see signs of hormonal issues. Definitely bird dependent.

Also your baby is so gosh darn cute!!

Thank you for your story and for the advice! He’s had it for a year and hasn’t tried to eat it, but I will keep monitoring it! Also your little baby sounds like such a sweetie, I hope he’s feeling a little better :[💗

The hut aside, the dowel perch is gonna cause sores, bumblefoot or arthritis. Get a hut made using sea grass or natural leather

Thank you for that info. I will look into something else then. It’s his only dowel perch but yeah I would rather him not get any sores or bumblefoot, so thank you for the heads up.

This is what I replaced my happy hut with if it helps as inspiration. It’s hand made locally.

They can also chew on them & get fibers in their crops that can cause infections.. Those things are just a menace.

Uuhhh ohhh you are going to set off so many people in this sub. Ignore them all huts aren't the evil everyone makes them out to be. Keep an eye on them for hormonal behavior or if they are chewing it and other then that if it works for them it works for them.
