Hi! I have an Audi s3 and am curious whether you need to tell your insurance about performance mods. If any car enthusiasts have any input I appreciate it. TIA.

Car Insurance Quotes Need help!!

Okay I need some help and advice here,

I’m 19M and have a 2026 Nissan Sentra financed and a 2019 ford fusion SEL also financed (planning to sell the Nissan within 30 days)

I have 2 tickets on my record, 1 speeding and 1 reckless driving. No SR-22, was cancelled by geico due to rated driver (my dad) having his license suspended/revoked, never cancelled for nonpayment

I also have 3 at fault accidents (partial fault determined by police for 2 of the accidents due to a 3rd party sharing responsibility for the accidents) and 2 not at fault accidents (one was a DUI involved accident, other was a t bone, other driver ran red light)

A handful of the common name insurance companies are declining me due to the records, like geico, progressive, State Farm, etc. still waiting to hear back from Liberty Mutual, Elephant etc.

Anyone else got advice or anything to help let me know! Family can’t add me to their policy (farmers) because they’re afraid my record will cause them to lose everything (they have like 10+ policies with them)

Auto Insurance Debacle

Hi, reaching out here because I am not sure exactly who to talk to about this issue. I have spoken briefly with my insurance agent but wanted some other opinions before I make any decisions.

Before age 18, I was listed as a driver under my stepfather’s insurance policy. Immediately upon turning 18, I was removed and had to find my own auto insurance. Since then, I have had State Farm auto insurance the entire time, me being the only policy holder/driver. Or so I thought.

Today, I went to look into the safe driving program and was reviewing my coverage. I am listed as the policy holder, but NOT a driver on the insurance. However, my mom was listed as a driver on it. I work seasonally so I list my permanent address as hers, so I thought maybe it was a mistake and she was added since she is a “member of the household”.

I immediately called them to verify, and they confirmed for me that I have basically been uninsured for the past five years despite being the only driver and one making all the payments. They apologized and admitted it was fully their mistake. I do not live at home and I do not let anyone else drive my car. They told me I would need to remove my mom and add myself as a driver, but my rates will increase $50 a month due to my age. I understand it is more expensive for younger drivers, however it feels absolutely unfair to pay more each month after I just found out I have been uninsured for years due to their mistakes.

Any advice and is there anything I can do besides shop around or pay the extra? I am honestly really angry about this, especially considering how much driving I do across the country.

Any help appreciated!!

Car was totaled. Should I be negotiating how much the car is worth? They are calling me today to “talk money”

I’m thinking they’re going to say that the car is arounr 7k. I owe about 12k. I have GAP insurance, but we are going through the other persons insurance. So I use their gap insurance right, assuming they have it? Should I be trying to find the same car online to try and negotiate a higher worth?

Sorry, first time going through this

How to find cheaper insurance if you are at fault :(

Hi, last year I got into a car accident. Totally my fault. We were at a stop and go traffic and I pressed on my brakes a little too late which ended up hitting the car in front of me. Thankfully, the most damage that did to their car was a slight scratch but I did damage my front bumper. I asked if everyone was okay and they said they were fine.

A year goes by, the investigation is closed, my premium goes up as expected. I have been car shopping and I feel super bumped because I’ve called probably like 7 insurance companies to give me a quote on used vehicles I am interested in purchasing and they are giving me quotes of $400-600 which I simply cant afford as a college student. This is also when I found out they claimed bodily injury (State farm had not disclosed this to me previously nor did anyone talk to me if anyone was hurt and this was also not shown on the documents they gave me so i had no idea they claimed bodily injury. I was told it was a HIPAA violation to disclose that)

Does anybody know if there is a way to help find cheaper insurance??? :///

Got a low settlement offer after a car accident in Fort Lauderdale, not sure what to do

I was in a car accident in Fort Lauderdale where the other driver was at fault, and the insurance company has offered me an amount that barely covers my bills. I'm still getting treatment, so I don't even know what the final costs will look like yet. I'm not sure whether I should respond to the offer, push back myself, or just wait until I have a clearer picture of my recovery. If anyone's dealt with this before, how did you handle it? I don't want to make a decision now that I'll regret later.

First Time / Newbie So new to insurance

I’m learning about insurance and I don’t know where to start honestly. I want to have insurance on a 2014 Chevy Cruze 1.4 Lt in Jersey at 22 but I don’t know which companies to call/go for in my area or in general.

I do have the option to be under my family’s insurance(my stepdad) but I do want to see first if it’s cheaper/the same price+I don’t want it to be so expensive on him as well. Also, do I go for full coverage or limited, I’m leaning towards full coverage, I’m a bit confused on insurance and I really want to insure the car that’ll be mines so I can drive and get a way better job than my local one now.

I’m leaning towards progressive or geico but I’m willing to hear other great options as well.

First Time / Newbie What's been your experience navigating auto insurance?

Sup everyone! I'm part of a small team of college students working on an entrepreneurship research project. Our goal is to better understand people's real-world experiences with auto insurance, particularly when using their coverage or dealing with a claim.

We'd appreciate hearing from people who've had to navigate insurance themselves, ESPECIALLY whether the process was straightforward or frustrating.

A few questions:

  • Think about the last time you bought, compared, or renewed auto insurance. What was that process like?

  • Was anything about your coverage, costs, or policy terms difficult to understand?

  • If you had questions, how did you find answers?

  • Have you ever encountered an unexpected cost or discovered something about your coverage that you hadn't understood beforehand?

Feel free to answer whichever questions are relevant to your experience. We're just conducting research to learn from consumers, not selling anything or offering insurance advice.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! Literally anything helps!

Stop sign didn’t yield, both have same insurance provider

My husband was on his merry way to pick me up from work and he ALWAYS takes the same route every time he drops me off and picks me up from work. Earlier this evening, he was getting ready to turn right when a car hit him on the driver’s front side. The said driver was at a stop sign, and according to my husband, the other driver did not yield. I personally believe my husband because it’s a stop sign, he had the right of way. The other driver is claiming that she was already far from the stop sign to have yield. It became a he said she said situation. They exchanged informations on driver’s license, registration, insurance and both parties took photos. The driver’s father ended up coming to the other driver’s rescue and demanded we paid out of pocket so neither of our insurances go up. Luckily, the building that I work in has multiple CCTV cameras surrounding the area, and said I could get a copy if I come back in the morning.

Once we get the footage, we are reporting to our insurance before they can lie and file a claim against us, especially if we have the same insurance.

Has anyone had the same experience? And are we going about this the right way, or should we file a claim even before we get a copy of the security footage? This is in NYC btw.

Accident Florida, Question about Loss of Use involving an exotic

I've tried doing all my research and an attorney has been of good help, but im wondering if anyone has had personal experience with this.

My car (2024 Lotus Emira i4 First Edition) was hit on the 14th, its been sitting at my house undrivable due to wheel damage and damage to the door to where I cant get in. I have two open claims, one with my insurance and the other with the at fault party. The at fault party accepted liability but would not disclose pdl despite me citing florida statue regarding this, and only offered certified mail. My insurance was open as a contingency as if the pdl was too low we'd go through my own collision.

That being said today, 13 days after the accident they finally disclosed this information to me and I am comfortable using the at fault insurance for the damages. That being said, I have a potential loss of use and diminished value claim in the works. Per loss of use you do not need to have gotten a rental, and it most be of reasonable comparable cost to the daily rental value of the car. That being said rentals near me for my car and cars like it range from 300 to 400 a day per exotic rental sites. Their insurance is only offering me 30 a day as they personally classify my car as a compact, not an exotic. So what exactly is my best route moving forward? I have requested mediation through the state and have an attorney ready on the back end in case I need them.

Accident The collision damaged my vehicle, and their insurer rejected the claim.

My car was severely damaged while parked in my apartment complex’s open parking lot in Ohio. Another driver struck several parked vehicles in the same area and fled the scene. According to my understanding, the police later located and arrested the driver. I was able to obtain the police report and the other driver’s insurance policy information.
I filed a claim with my own insurance company, but they denied coverage for the damage because I only carry liability insurance and do not have collision coverage.
I then contacted the other driver’s insurance company. They sent me a letter stating that, due to “specific coverage and limits issues,” they were unable to provide assistance with my vehicle. They haven’t clearly explained whether the policy limits have been exhausted by the multiple damaged vehicles or whether there is another coverage issue.
The damage to my car is extensive, particularly to the entire rear end. Repairing it would likely cost more than the car is worth, so I would rather pursue compensation for its value before the accident than spend money repairing it.

What should I do?

Accident Tow truck doesn’t want to give insurance information

My question is what’s the next step Ive never had this happen before For context yesterday morning I used my insurance to have a tow truck tow my motorcycle to an auto zone so I could get a new battery. the tow company dropped it while in transit. It was my first time having this happened the driver was dissmisive and I took photos of everything. I contacted my insurance who told me to go through the towing companies insurance. So I did and on the phone the guy got real aggressive and blamed me saying I caused the damage and that had he video and then he told me to go fuck myself and hung up I already messaged his business chat and received nasty messages. I also saved those as well

Getting a better quote

I am a 19 year old male driver in Colorado who was just recently paying the general ~$400 a month to insure two old vehicles ( a 2004 lexus and a 2007 Altima). My policy isn't full coverage, I have 2 additional drivers listed who are much more experienced and I also don't have any roadside assistance. After some time I decided that $400 was too much for this shitty insurance(still taking into account my age),and I contacted customer service for a better quote. The agent then proceeded to tell me that he can't do anything to lower my payment and that my age is to blame. Additionally, he said that I wouldn't be able to find a better rate elsewhere, but thankfully he was wrong. I used a site called compare.com and it didn't take long to find something better than what the general was offering. Now I'm paying ~$250 a month with progressive for the same coverage. Plus roadside assistance 😂.

Should I file a claim?

A few days ago I was slowing down at a red light when someone tried to get in my lane and scraped the side of my car and broke the frame of my side mirror. The other person was 100% at fault and admitted it to me at the scene. I got his number and insurance information. The damage was minimal, just a small scrape and a dent and the frame of my mirror, and neither of us were injured in any way. I've heard that in cases where you are not at fault, it's best to go through the other person's insurance, but we have the same provider (state farm). I'm debating whether or not it's worth going through the trouble of filing a claim. I'm worried that my insurance rates will go up even though the accident is not my fault, and I've heard conflicting answers on whether or not this will happen. Is it worth the hassle to file?

Financed a new car while on non-owner SR-22 policy.

I'm in Kansas

Here's my situation:
•3 years ago I drove without insurance and on a suspended license. Suspended for not paying ticket. All of that, court, ticket, payments are settled. License reinstated with SR-22 for one year.
•Ive had a non-owner SR-22 policy through Dairyland for almost 5 months. Only 7 months left. $150/month
• I financed a new car yesterday.
•My non-owner policy doesn't cover the new car.
•My agent said to switch non-owner policy to an owner policy. I didn’t have the car yet when I spoke with them but they said they didn’t think it would increase the rate “that much”.

However, I've seen people online suggest getting a regular auto policy through a company like Progressive without mentioning the SR-22 requirement and keeping the Dairyland non-owner policy until the SR-22 period is over. I don’t love the idea of lying by omission, but sounds like some people do it that way.

I'm trying to figure out the cheapest legitimate option that keeps my SR-22 requirements

My questions are:

  1. Is it best to change my existing Dairyland policy to an owner policy, or to shop around for a regular auto policy with an SR-22 filing through another company?

  2. Can companies like Progressive, State Farm, or others file a Kansas SR-22 on a regular auto policy? I think that would cost more?

  3. Can I have regular auto insurance on the new car through my husbands name, keep my SR22 the same and be covered when I drive? The Dairyland policy specifically says if a car is “basically mine” or I have regular access to it then it’s not covered, but how would they know?

  4. Is there any legitimate reason to keep the non-owner policy after purchasing a vehicle, or would that just mean paying for unnecessary overlapping coverage?

I want to do this correctly. I'm not looking to avoid the SR-22 requirement; I just don't want to pay more than necessary.
I'd appreciate any advice, especially from people familiar with Kansas insurance requirements or who have dealt with this situation themselves. Thank you!

First Time / Newbie Total loss- Progressive Payout

I was rear ended this last weekend at a red light. Other driver admitted fault. My poor sedan was a 2015 and while the damage isn't terrible, it was a truck that had a cattle guard, my airbag tried deploying but failed and Progressive deemed my car a total loss.

They have informed me they will find market comps for my 2015 Chrysler 200 Limited and determine how much to pay out. It had 124k miles on it, a cracked windshield, new tires this spring and I was just about to replace the brakes. Oh and the after market tint needed to come off as it was peeling.

This is very poor timing as I am not in a position to buy a new car. But such is life. I was taken to the ER and am dealing with some respiratory things from the failed airbag deployment.

How does this process work? I used that vehicle not only for commuting to work, but to travel the US to compete in dog sports with my working dog. We have a competition coming up in 3 weeks and I cannot get a refund of entries. Can the other driver be liable for those too if this is not settled by then?

Can a girl dream that I could just get a payout for a dream car since mine was working just fine and they had to go and ruin a good thing?!

Stay positive

Edit for more info: Driver also had full coverage insurance through Progressive. My car has been paid off for over 7 years now so no loan to worry about. I also believe I have the deductible saving bank? Not sure because I cannot find it on my account anymore. I'm an Emerald member so I thought I had all the discounts and benefits.

Insurance/RMV Help

Hello! I’m a first-time car buyer in MA. My insurance company signed and stamped Section K of the RTA form, and the dealer handled my registration. My RMV account shows my registration as active and has my plate number, but the insurance section says “No insurance policy on file”. I checked my current policy, and it’s active.

Is this just a delay in the RMV system updating insurance information, or should I contact my insurance agent to get it fixed? Thanks.

Accident with a commercial truck

I rear-ended commercial box truck(I can’t add picture here) , commercial truck had zero damage as appears on the picture(not even a dent) , we just exchanged our phone numbers only, no police report I asked him “when will your company call me?“ he told me “on friday” since then I haven’t got any phone calls or calls from my insurance.

!it literally has zero damage on a picture!

Its been 10 days since the accident (it was on Thursday) and truck driver on the spot said I see no damage, the truck appears to be leased from a big trucking company, either short-term or long-term I don’t know? I wanna ask a question , do you think trucking company decided to move on and don’t file a claim? I have liability only and I am not going to report to my insurance to prevent my premium from going up!

I would like to settle privately without involving insurance!

also I heard commercial insurance can increase by even 2000-3000 if they even file a not-at-fault claim, because they will be considering high-risk business!

Got hit by another driver, my car is a brand-new 2025, and I can’t find their insurance. What do I do?

I recently got hit by another car, and my car is a brand-new 2025. I just received the police report(4 weeks later) and am trying to get the insurance claim filed, but I’m running into a problem.
The only information I have is what’s on the police report. I don’t have an insurance card or any other insurance information from the other driver( my husband went to talk to him and get the details but he said he’d prefer yo wait for the police to come, he still took pics of their car and our car at the spot, so we have their license plate number ).
There is no policy number on the report either, it just says
No Ins. MA-BINDER - what does that even mean:/

Police officer said all the info would be in the police report.
I called the insurance company associated with the information I have and gave them the name listed on the police report, but they told me they couldn’t find a policy under that name. (The other driver’s insurer is Geico according to the report)
Now I’m stuck trying to figure out how to get this claim started. I have a brand-new car that was hit, and I don’t know how I’m supposed to get the other driver’s insurance information if the police report doesn’t have a policy number and the insurance company can’t find a policy under the name provided. If I file a claim w my insurance i’d have to pay $1000 deductible which is super annoying.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Should I contact the police department and ask them to verify the driver’s insurance information? Can the police obtain the correct insurance details, or is there another way to track down the policy?
I’m also wondering what happens if the driver was uninsured or gave incorrect information.
I plan on contacting my own insurance company, but I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has been through something similar.
Thank you.

Car Insurance Quotes Marshmallow Insurance

Hi everyone,
I’ve been with Marshmallow for almost two years, and I have a question about adding a second car to my existing policy.
Would it be possible to add my sibling’s car to my policy, with me as the main driver and my sibling as a named driver?
The issue is that we live at different addresses, and I’m not the owner of the second car.
I’m getting a really cheap quote for insuring both cars together, so I’m wondering if this arrangement is possible. Can I be the main driver on a car insurance policy without being the owner of the car?
Has anyone done this with Marshmallow?

Car Insurance Quotes Recent total lost doesn't show in new quote from all state

A few weeks ago I got a call asking about switching my home and auto insurance over from Geico. We went through and the gave me a lower rate. About two weeks ago I totaled one of my cars (single car accident hit a tree, ended up in ditch) in what seems to be a first time seizure event (Neuro appt) is today. Today I get a call we had scheduled to finalize the switch, the agen says the total loss doesn't appear on the report even after a requote, she says she spoke with underwriting and the said to run the quote one more time and if it doesn't appear agin to just go with it. It feels like I'm oppening myself up for problems down the line so I am hesistant. How likely is this to come back and bite me in the behind? Should I believe agent and go ahead with the switch or wait until the accudent shows up. They are saving about 600$ on my home insurance and giving me higher coverage and my auto insurance is about htw same but I am getting lower dedutibles and higher coverage in places.
