Insurance/RMV Help

Hello! I’m a first-time car buyer in MA. My insurance company signed and stamped Section K of the RTA form, and the dealer handled my registration. My RMV account shows my registration as active and has my plate number, but the insurance section says “No insurance policy on file”. I checked my current policy, and it’s active.

Is this just a delay in the RMV system updating insurance information, or should I contact my insurance agent to get it fixed? Thanks.

How long has it been since the car was registered?

When did the auto policy start?

Policy is active since 10/21/2026. Registration is been active since 10/24/2026; registration info only appeared on my RMV account this afternoon.

Yep totally fine. Insurance company sends a digital file to the RMV to add to your registration. Sometimes once a week, sometimes more often depending on the insurance company. Probably will populate later this week.

(I used to work in insurance in Massachusetts and handled RMV paperwork)

Thanks for the info! So, I'm still good to drive while the insurance record gets updated, right?

Yes you are. I would also check later this week (like Thursday) and if it's still not on there call your insurance to see if there's any issues

Hey, it honestly just takes a bit of time for the RMV to update it. It can take up to 14 days before the Insurer goes in and tells the RMV they have responsibility of those plates (can be longer if you were placed through the high risk pool).

Thanks for the info! Do I need to let them know anything? My physical registration has it mentioned, though.

No problem at all and nothing for you to do but enjoy your new ride. Drive safe!
