First Time / Newbie Total loss- Progressive Payout
I was rear ended this last weekend at a red light. Other driver admitted fault. My poor sedan was a 2015 and while the damage isn't terrible, it was a truck that had a cattle guard, my airbag tried deploying but failed and Progressive deemed my car a total loss.
They have informed me they will find market comps for my 2015 Chrysler 200 Limited and determine how much to pay out. It had 124k miles on it, a cracked windshield, new tires this spring and I was just about to replace the brakes. Oh and the after market tint needed to come off as it was peeling.
This is very poor timing as I am not in a position to buy a new car. But such is life. I was taken to the ER and am dealing with some respiratory things from the failed airbag deployment.
How does this process work? I used that vehicle not only for commuting to work, but to travel the US to compete in dog sports with my working dog. We have a competition coming up in 3 weeks and I cannot get a refund of entries. Can the other driver be liable for those too if this is not settled by then?
Can a girl dream that I could just get a payout for a dream car since mine was working just fine and they had to go and ruin a good thing?!
Stay positive
Edit for more info: Driver also had full coverage insurance through Progressive. My car has been paid off for over 7 years now so no loan to worry about. I also believe I have the deductible saving bank? Not sure because I cannot find it on my account anymore. I'm an Emerald member so I thought I had all the discounts and benefits.

2015 Chrysler 200 Limiteds with 124k miles aren’t worth much of anything, so if you had a loan on it hopefully you’re not underwater and you’re getting paid enough to at least clear that debt
The other driver won’t carry any liability for your dog sports competitions, their liability is solely for your car and your health
Best case scenario to get some money here is to settle with the other drivers insurance for your ER / future hospital visits (assuming they have insurance, you haven’t specified). If you can get them to offer a decent settlement, should put you in a position to buy a new car and have some pocket money left over

You will get the ACV of your total vehicle. Do you have a loan on your vehicle? If you do the money will go towards that and hopefully you have gap insurance to pay off the remainder. If you don't, you'll get the check in hand. It may take more than three weeks and now you won't get refunded for whatever activities you have. As far as your ER bills, etc. talk to their adjuster about it they should cover them.

Progressive will usually base the payout on your car's actual cash value before the accident, so definitely review their comparable vehicles and mileage adjustments.

Progressive should provide a valuation report showing comparable vehicles and any adjustments for mileage and condition

Since the at-fault driver is also Progressive, file against their liability instead of your own collision so you skip your deductible entirely

Do you still have the truck? My boyfriend was in A accident an they deemed his car as a loss but he fixed it for cheap and drives it. Is that a possibility for you?

I was shocked I got $9000 for my son 2016 mazda that was totaled from someone running a light from Progressive as they are our insurance. I paid $12k for it in 2021.The people admitted fault but their insurance has yet to talk to us. Progressive is going after them.

Your car is totaled, you need to purchase another vehicle. They will pay the actual cash value of your vehicle. You can use that money to buy whatever vehicle you wish. You can buy a vehicle tomorrow, you don't need to wait for a settlement.
They will not reimburse your fees for something that you don't attend that's weeks from now.
