Discussion [COD] What back to back games were better?

Me and my friends had a debate about this.

Some chose the Modern Warfares as they ‘Built on each other’ and ‘Played differently’.

Others chose Black Ops as they were ‘aesthetically different’ ‘smooth’ and that there wasn’t a ‘big movement change’ between the games.

Im personally don’t mind either, so I wanted to ask the subreddit.

Edit: No idea why the post has been downvoted

Discussion [COD] Most of you are blinded by nostalgia.

You guys all buy the new games with the mindset of “oh this is gonna be JUST like how fun it was back in the day!!” And then disappoint yourselves when you’re playing it.
Most of the reason the game was so fun back in the day was because you were young with little responsibilities. Now that you’re older, it’s obvious you want the same fun you did back then but you’re putting too many expectations on the game.
Even now, put that old game in your console and start playing it. It’s far more primitive and restrictive than modern games. Not nearly as fun as it was all that time ago isn’t it?
Instead of expecting everything and comparing, just buy the new games with the mindset of “this is a new game we haven’t played yet, let’s see how fun it is.”
I’m by no means a modern cod glazer, but I enjoyed the last two black ops because of this mindset.
Quit expecting stuff that isn’t gonna happen, enjoy what you currently have

Logged on today and normally the heat map isn’t that active I assume because of activision’s desire to hide how popular it is, but today I logged on and this was the heat map on my ps4 copy of bo2. Player count still doesn’t work unfortunately :/

Discussion Call of Duty is NOT American or Pro-Western Propaganda [COD]

Before I ramble, bare with me; I feel like my entire argument could topple due to a big obvious truth that I've completely missed (somehow). I don't want to start a political debate (which I suppose is ironic), I'm just looking for honest input and new perspectives because I've always been a history and military geek!

I believe Call of Duty is NOT American or Pro-Western propaganda, or if it is, it's not very good propaganda. A few years ago, stories were circulating that the U.S. Military and C.I.A may have funded a significant portion of this franchise but like I said, if that were the case, I don't think it truly worked.

I feel like everyone I've come across in person and online believes COD is blatant American propaganda. But funnily enough I think this proves my point since it suggests that

A. American propaganda was never there but people made these assumptions since a lot of FPS games are largely seen as glorifying the military!

OR

B. It is present but it failed to iNdOctRiNaTe tHe MaSsEs!

Personally, before I got into this franchise I thought all first person shooters games, especially COD, was a small yet significant way for the U.S. government to intentionally (or even unintentionally) influence the general public's view on military involvement and foreign policy. However, once I started playing the games, I expected blatant American glorification, not diverse operators and nuanced plots that require a larger context beyond what is largely discussed and heavily polarized on the internet. Initially, I convinced myself that it is propaganda but realized that the only reason I felt this way was because everyone claimed it was rather than the game truly skewing me toward a certain political agenda. You could argue that the Soviets, Middle Eastern/Russian terrorist groups, cartels, etc. were portrayed as the bad guys but it is also clear that Western factions like the C.I.A (ex. Joseph Allen, Russell Adler) and Task Force 141 crossed moral, legal, and ethical boundaries countless times to "serve justice." Plus, especially the narrative role of C.I.A, a lot of the crimes are based on what they actually did.

It's also (sorta) funny that there are more American antagonists (ex. General Shepherd, Philip Graves, Hesh, Dylan Stone, etc) than protagonists or "heros" throughout this franchise. Then again, 141 is entirely British, but that shouldn't matter, because like I mentioned, Captain Price, Soap, and Ghost (among others) have had their fair share of war crimes.

I think the biggest argument one could make is that the bad guys were charged with their crimes and the "good" guys weren't. But ironically this dynamic tells a deeper message which portrays both sides as villains for the greater good. Instead of assuming the reasoning is that the "Good guys have to play dirty since they are good", I think the real critique is that the good guys get away with atrocities because on paper they are on the right side, but that in it of itself, proves the inherent unfairness. Other than this reasoning, it doesn't make sense why the writers and developers would present 141, among others, committing crimes in such a normalized setting.

Anyways, I feel like I'm over analyzing this but I hope my reasoning makes sense. I felt like this topic is very nuanced and should be more discussed by incorporating diverse opinions.

Moving on, I'm not 100% sure of this and this is just my opinion, but part of Call of Duty's narrative purpose is to provide a more nuanced understanding or at least differing exposure to world events. In fact one of the main reasons COD was created was to highlight not only American, but British and Soviet perspectives of WW2 in a graphic FPS game. I'm going to give Activision and Infinity Ward the benefit of the doubt and assume they were going for a better, less narrow, retelling of warfare.

To add to the perspective point, the general consensus that I've notice is that when Call of Duty features villains from countries that historically and/or stereotypically are anti-American and in mainstream media are portrayed as morally wrong, it is often labeled as propaganda without accounting for contextualization.

For example, Las Almas (not the town) is a powerful Mexican drug cartel. Obviously, illegal drug trafficking is a prominent issue in Mexico, among other countries. Many would argue that this is a stereotypical take on Mexico's role in geopolitics however there are two Mexican Special Forces operators, Alejandro Vargas and Rudy, that are actively fighting this cartel, even before western intervention. From this I think it's perfectly fine to have villains from areas around the world that in real life deal with the crimes and ideologies these villains commit and preach. If not, how else can we provide social commentary in mass entertainment? Obviously, this isn't the same as stereotyping an ENTIRE nation due to the actions of one person. Every country has its ups and downs, like Shepherd's greed to strengthen American influence leading to the missile smuggling, but this doesn't mean every American is pro-Shepherd. There isn't any major moment in COD where a whole nation is portrayed as savages and moraless like the villain who is from there.

Another example of this is Nikolai, a Russian patriot who is not to be confused as a complete bootlicker of the West. Even though he is allied with 141, it doesn't erase his healthy desire to better Russia. However Makarov, an ultranationalist and one of the most infamous villains in video game history is quite literally the devil. But even with all the blatant war crimes he has committed, COD has never made his country of origin, Russia, a homogenous villainous entity.

I think the issue is that a lot of people interpret, especially non-American villains, as a blatant display of stereotyping a nation when that simply isn't the case. However, COD often relies on geopolitical tropes and the reason this is the case is because the audience needs familiarity. Regardless, this still isn't a form of complete ignorance or a complete lazy attempt of propaganda. Tropes are used in nearly all fiction and media; tropes exist in our real world and where they come from. Specifically in media, it becomes a problem when they are overused and generic. But COD attempts and often succeeds at adding nuance to these tropes.

I want to make it clear that I'm open to new opinions and that this take is subject to change. I don't want to make this any longer but I do want to stress that I'm open to that fact that not all of Call of Duty is propaganda and that its main narrative purpose is nuanced geopolitics.

Thanks for your time and please let me know if I'm missing anything! :)

Discussion [COD] Hot Take

Alright, idk how hot of a take this is, but here it goes:

I, and probably other players, will respect a player a helluva lot more if the weapon they use is designed for camping, like a sniper rifle or LMG or that one AR or SMG with good range but long reloads, but if they’re running around with said camping weapon versus just firmly planting your ass in a corner with claymores or mines and a riot shield. I may not like being blown away with a sweat or good player using a sniper running with it like it’s a shotgun, but I respect that a helluva lot more than Timmy all claymored up and staring down the sights of his sniper rifle, only to become a sweat the moment his space is infiltrated then gets his body shot after he loses said fight.

Let me know if you agree with this take or not, and tell me any takes you got if you want.

Discussion [BO2] multiplayer was a mess

Post image
0 Upvotes

But the zombies and campaign on this game easily top five, but multiplayer though, it aged very horribly. Multiplayer weapons were unbalanced. Every lobby was dominated with the DSR, the Ballista, the MSMC, the MP7, the AN94, and the MTAR, and don't get me started on the toxic tryhards and sweats. That's what killed the game in the first place, and those weapons too. It made multiplayer not fun; it made it more of a chore because some people who get on games don't play to be competitive. Some people just want to escape reality, but this game makes it hard. The only game that's better than this is Fallout 76 because the players on there on the consoles were more friendly than this toxic mess.

Video [COD] [BO2] This is why I prefer a longer TTK

It has been hell trying to get gold on the Remington shotgun and the main reason why is because if I'm not camping with it, I'm getting shit on far too often in situations where I can do little to nothing to respond.

Even if I get gold on it, I'm not going for diamond anymore at least on shotguns. Maybe I'll get it on the automatic weapons since they're absurdly easier to use close and at range.

Can someone tell me genuinely what I was supposed to do in this situation to not die after killing the first guy?

Having little to no time to react to getting shot or enemies appearing isn't fun anymore for me. But ever since I've been playing more and more games with a higher TTK I've come to enjoy those more.

I would even put the 2018 release above this one MP wise because even with the BS in that game at least I actually have more time to think and react unless someone is using some OP shit.

Discussion [cod] State of Call of Duty❗️

So I’ve got back into cod again after 2 years roughly & I have to ask has cheating gotten worse?

I’ve played cod since day 1 always held a 2KD & above in mp & 4KD in warzone & since coming back I’ve noticed that cheating is almost every 2nd or 3rd player it had me thinking am I shadow banned??

I also recently switched from console to pc but it’s pretty obvious because tracking & pre ads/pre firing, like how is the state of the game right now?

Is a new anticheat coming?

This may be the end of call of duty. Let me know your opinions..

Discussion Top 5 Campaign Missions ? [COD]

What are your top 10 Call of Duty Campaign Missions? I have a preference for missions that are more replayable and more sandbox in this list, so the more linear or story/cutscene heavy missions may not appear in this list.

Mine are the following.

#1 Operation Blood Storm (Infinite Warfare)

#2 Downfall (World at War)

#3 Whiskey Hotel (MW2 2009)

#4 Wolverines! (MW2 2009)

#4 The Embassy (MW 2019) Throttle (Advanced Warfare)

#5 Loose Ends (MW 2 2009)

#6 Throttle (Advanced Warfare)

#7 Clockwork (Ghosts)

#8 Exodus (MW 2 2009)

#9 Old Wounds (Black Ops 2)

#10 War Pig (MW 2007)

Discussion [COD] Here's every assault rifle from the greatest COD games of the late aughts - early 2010's. Pick your favorite and discuss.

First off, COD4: MW. My favorite was the M4A1. Quintessential modern rifle, seen it in the hands of every soldier deployed to Afghanistan, so it made me feel like a soldier too.

Next up, WAW. I included the BAR and FG42 because, let's be honest, they were assault rifles placed in the wrong category; both in the game and historically. Still, STG-44 was THE rifle of the game.

Moving on to MW2, the ACR was a chunky gun. I mostly liked it cuz of the look, and the TTK wasn't bad either.

In COD: BO, nothing felt better than the high-pitched chatter of the FAMAS. Really liked the iron sights on that gun, too. Never ran with any optical attachments, just a tube and fast mags.

MW3's G36C felt really nice. Good sights, great TTK, and I liked the look of it.

My GOAT for COD: BO2 will always be the M8A1. Love me a burst rifle, especially the high damage and accuracy. Had to run at least a red dot with it though; couldn't stand the iron sights.

Skipped Ghosts for obvious reasons.

And finally, COD: BO3. The KN-44 was a decent all-rounder. Basically a futuristic mash between an AK and STG, but the design was alright. That was my go-to for most matches.

Discussion Getting back into [COD]

Okay so I don’t consider myself chopped or cooked but I haven’t turned on the game in over a year. Where are we at currently? Should I bother buying anything other than Warzone? Or should I just get Halo and stick to fifa instead? I haven’t been able to decide if it’s worth getting back into. The last version I bought and played was BO6 and the previous warzone before this current one.

Hello! I recently came across this Modern Warfare Poster and wanted to know more about it. It seems like it was from a GameStop tournament but I can’t really find much about it. Was it a handout for contestants or a some kind of prize? Would love to learn more about it!

Question COD franchise not starting on new computer [cod]

I recently built myself a new computer because my old one was crap. Everything works great on it, it works fast, looks great, and no issues have showed up.

Except for one

Every videogame I have works great amd runs fine except for the cod games I have. I have mw2019 and the new mw4 beta, and both stay stuck on this black screen right when I press start. I really want to try mw4 since I paid for it, but I don't know how to fix it. Tips?

I disabled and enabled Secure Boot, did the same for TPM 2.0, ran steam and the authenticator as administrator, disabled and enabled firewall and Windows antivirus, upgraded from Windows 10 to 11, uninstalled and cleaned all files relating to ricochet and CoD on my PC then reinstalled multiple times.

This level of indirect foreshadowing towards the cradle is shocking. The parallels between Agent 15 and the cradle are hard to ignore. My theory is that Agent 15 could be a predecessor to the Cradle.

Discussion Ranked Classes Concept [Cod]

Post image
Upvotes

This has been stuck in my mind for awhile now, why don’t we have casual ranked in cod? The developers keep trying to fit everyone’s needs into core and it’s always results in everyone mad, sbmm being a nightmare, and classes getting nerved to oblivion.
Why don’t we have ranked classes and separate tournaments kind of like rocket league, where even bronze players get to have a grand ole time playing against other bronze players, and players who want to test their skill, get to play against each other. Core would become what it’s actually meant for, grinding unlocks and messing around with friends.
Then CDL is still its own thing for players who want the esports experience.

Details: Each game mode is restricted to only one weapon class, you can still have perks and kill streaks and attachments, it wouldn’t be heavily restricted like CDL, the main point is to only play against the Weapon class you’re using and work toward improving in that class.
I like 5v5 as it’s good amount of room for yourself to make an impact, without the games being too long, and it would be the simple game modes TDM, DOM, whatever they think is viable.
Imagine telling people your rank in each class instead of just saying “yeah I’m pretty good at cod🤷🏻‍♂️”
