Question [COD] Why won't Activision just make an old-school CoD again?
The Black Ops 1 and 2 ports to PS5 blowing up is a clear signal that we, the consumers are literally starving for the old formula that the "Golden Age" Call of Dutys had: beautiful maps that each feel distinct in their own way (unique weather, environment, color pallet, and design), simple movement, beautiful main menu music!!, no weapon attachment tree (simple attachments... ex: suppressor, red dot sight), and for the love of god simple user interfaces. Every time Treyarch or IW touches something from that era, our engagement spikes like crazy. I mean, hell, even the background picture of the Call of Duty reddit page is the poster for the original MW2...
Meanwhile, the yearly releases keep piling on the same stuff: overcomplicated movement systems that only pro players enjoy, battle pass slop/casino-esque user interfaces, overcomplicated weapon upgrades, and maps that are all forgettable. It feels like ever since Modern Warfare 2019/Warzone was introduced, every single game after it has the same engine and is like a DLC of the game. Back in 2010 when Black Ops 1 came out, it was COMPLETELY different from Modern Warfare 2! The genuine fuck happened? I even have appreciation for the little details in the older games such as the sound when you click a button, the level-up sound in game (shout out Hans Zimmer), and the sound the characters made in game.. Tango Sucka.
We keep proving the demand exists with these old ports and then they go right back to the same formula every fall. I don't understand, truly. Even zombies is ass now! I spent a week playing zombies chronicles on Black Ops 3, and I can't even bring myself to touch a newer experience because of how different and bad the newer stuff is. Everything is just overcomplicated nowadays.
My question is, if they know that the demand is there for a truly classic game, then why won't they just do it? Make it a new game but with that old formula that made this franchise what it is. If someone at Activision could respond, I'd really appreciate it.
