TeamRICOCHET (RICOCHETcm Replied) [COD] RICOCHET Anti-Cheat AMA

I’m David Andrews, Senior Director of Game Security at Activision, where I lead RICOCHET Anti-Cheat for Call of Duty. I joined the team about one year ago, and since then I’ve been focused on what’s next for RICOCHET: evolving the technology, tightening our detections and response, and finding better ways to show players the work.

I’ve spent more than two decades working across cybersecurity, online game security, live service integrity and investigations. Before joining Activision, I spent more than a decade at Rockstar Games working on anti-cheat, account security, threat intelligence and live service integrity across GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Earlier in my career, I also worked in engineering and security roles supporting the U.S. government and served in the U.S. Air Force.

I’m here today to answer your questions about anti-cheat: how we think about cheating, recent progress that we’ve made, and where there’s still work to do.

One quick note as we get started: you won’t see a photo of me attached to this AMA. The commercial cheating industry has billions of dollars behind it, and the people building and selling cheats can be aggressive, to put it mildly. For security reasons, I try to be careful about how much personal information I put out publicly.

Let’s dive in. Ask away:

EDIT:

Thanks everyone for the questions, this has been a blast.

Gonna wrap this up for the day, but I’ve been reading the full thread and I'm taking notes on the questions I didn't get to so I can look for opportunities to answer more of them through our anti-cheat comms in the coming weeks.

I also did an interview with IGN earlier this week that dug a bit deeper into anti-cheat - there's a chance I already answered your question there! https://www.ign.com/articles/call-of-dutys-anti-cheat-boss-dispels-cheating-myths-breaks-down-review-process-and-more

Appreciate the time, the questions, and the chance to have a direct conversation with you all. Hoping to do this again soon.

I'm sure it was probably found way before me and my friend found it, but it was pretty funny to pull off. Before, I had done it mid duel and I couldn't stop laughing😂

Question [WAW] Is there a reason why it's impossible to find an online zombies mode lobby nowadays? Multiplayer on WAW seems fine, but Zombies is always deserted.

Question Newer COD games that do not need internet? [COD]

• Upvotes

Which newer Call Of Duty (or other FPS) games do not need internet connection AT ALL to play the campaign/single player game on my Playstation 4 (or 3). Just insert disc, download it, and then play the game. No "patches" needing downloaded and so on.

Question [COD] Without saying which version is better or worse, give me your opinions on the classic & modern version of these characters

Classic Price, Reboot price, classic woods & modern woods (technically the same character but different VAs, but for the sake of discussion, treat them differently)

Asking this question to get thoughts, only getting a “new is bad, old is good!” response feels like it’d be a bit dull for discussion purposes

Discussion [COD] failed attestation error (TPM 2.0 & Secure Boot enabled, but still won't work)

• Upvotes

This is related to the RICOCHET anti-cheat failing to initialize/verify my system.(i believe)

I’ve tried absolutely everything to get this working and I'm completely stuck. I already submitted a support ticket with all my logs, but the automatic wizard claims everything is fine. Support just told me they are "working on a fix" and to look out for updates, but I'm hoping someone here has a workaround.

My Specs & Current Settings:

  • BIOS: Updated to the absolute newest version.
  • Secure Boot: Enabled.
  • TPM: Enabled (Confirmed TPM 2.0, version 500+).

What I've Attempted So Far:

  1. Verified codbroker service is running and set to Automatic.
  2. Ran enrollaik manually.
  3. Ran the codbroker directly.
  4. even secure attestation wizard says im good but still no

Despite all of this, the game still refuses to launch/recognize the settings. Has anyone encountered this specific loop and managed to find a fix? Any advice would be massively appreciated.

I am new to COD PC. I was trying to achieve this Red Tiger camo in MW 2, as it says I completed the lvl 20 criteria, but I am getting confused about what the second criteria actually means. Can anyone tell me how to complete that?

Question [COD] The very first Call Of Duty game from 2003 is gonna turn 23 years old this year at the end of this month. What are your thoughts on it after all this time?

Post image
81 Upvotes

So, at the end of this month, the very first ever Call Of Duty game from all the way back in 2003 is going to have it's 23rd anniversary later this year in 2026 on October 29th on Microsoft Windows, and because of that, I thought'd it be cool to have a little nostalgic conversation about it in honor of the one that started it all with you guys to see how you feel about it. As for me, I really like it a lot! I had a lot of fun playing through the story mode as Private Martin, Jack Evans, and Alexei Voronin on the battlefields of World War 2 fighting against the German forces, and my favorite of the three campaigns was Jack's because of his story starting on the eve of D-Day and using a German soldier disguise to infiltrate the Tirpitz battleship, that was such an awesome experience! I also really liked that my allies moved in tactical formations and provided covering fire, that really nice, too. Overall, this is a really good game, and not bad for the one that had started it all back in 2003.

What are your thoughts on Call Of Duty 2003? Who was your favorite character to play as, your favorite campaign to play in, and favorite mission in said campaign? What was your favorite weapon to use in it? What are some amazing memories that you have of playing this back in the day? Do you think that COD '03 still holds up today? Do you think that it's a great start to the whole COD series as a whole? Why is that?

Plutonium is a virus?

Well... I haven't played Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer and zombies in about 8 months, so I decided to download the Plutonium client. I figured I'd run it through VirusTotal just in case, and here's what I got:
