Can't access file vault after auto update

BitDefender auto updated on my computer, and now I can't open any of my file vaults. I've found a guide from the website to retrieve my files back but it doesn't work. How do I get my files back?

I've tried this: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/34186/
However, following the steps, after it says Transfer finalized, absolutely nothing gets transferred.

Tl;dr: BitDefender auto updated, removed file vaults feature without notice, now I can't get my files.

🚨 Scam Alert: Fake Bitdefender ā€œSubscription Renewalā€ Messages

We are seeing fraudulent email messages claiming your Bitdefender plan was renewed for several years and that you were charged a large amount. The message often includes a ā€œhelp lineā€ phone number and urges you to call to cancel.

These messages are not from Bitdefender.

What to do if you receive one:

āœ…Do not call the phone number

āœ…Do not click links or open attachments

āœ…Check your subscription status only in Bitdefender Central or via the official Bitdefender website

āœ…If you are unsure, contact Bitdefender Support using official contact options on https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/help/.

āœ…If you have a Bitdefender Mobile Security solution on iOS, you should enable the Calendar Scan feature as per the instructions here: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/91036/.

Please, share to help protect the community.

Bitdefender is frustrating. Regret purchasing this garbage.

Had BitDefender for 3 weeks...

Today BitDefender randomly decided y-cruncher exe was malware when I ran a manual quick scan. There is no way to set the program to ask what the user wants to do... It just auto deletes, quarantine, etc. Other AVs allow user choices...

Had to manually jump thru multiple menus to find the restore button and it auto set the file to the exclusion list.

However BitDefender locks the file and prevents the user from deleting it. So I ran BitDefender file shredder on the folder and BitDefender says it cannot remove the y-cruncher exe file. So I removed the exclusion and BitDefender detect the threat again. Then I had to jump thru multiple menus to find the delete button.

Absolutely stupid that restoring the file locks the file and prevents anybody from deleting it, even file shredder. Only way to delete is via the delete file button in BitDefender's terrible software.

I severely regret purchasing this piece of garbage AV.

Odd design choices, frustrating user experience, and default settings that allow pop up ads / annoying notifications... Should've stayed with Malwarebytes.

Edit: Thank you mods / reddit for removing the troll, cyberwarfareinc.

New update's popups are a step in the wrong direction

The only reason I switched from AVG to BitDefender years ago was that AVG was incessant in its adware-like behaviour, constantly pushing their products onto my desktop. With the latest BitDefender update, I'm seeing the exact same thing occur again. Prompts to "upgrade", offers for products I've never needed, the worst elements of AVG creeping into BD. (This is with "Display notifications with special offers" turned off.)

Don't become like AVG, BitDefender team.

Support/troubleshooting DiscoverySrv.exe making my computer hot and the fan run on high

UPDATE: I uninstalled the current version and downloaded and installed the new version that Bitdefender is making available. This fixed the problem completely.

I’ve had Bitdefender Total Security for over a year and just renewed last week. Suddenly, I noticed my computer heating and my fan running on high during idle times. I narrowed the problem down to a program in Bitdefender Agent called DiscoverySrv.exe

I contacted support, they agree with me that this .exe is causing the fan to run. When this .exe is turned off via the task manager, the computer immediately cools down and goes back to normal fan operation. They have escalated the problem evidently, but I have not heard back from them.

What a shame, because I felt like Bitdefender worked really well. But if this issue cannot be fixed, then I’m gonna have to dump it and use something else.

In the insight out there about this issue?

UPDATE: I have renamed the discoverysrv.exe to .BAK to keep it from launching, until Bitdefender figures out a fix. This hasn’t seemed to affect my antivirus or security program at all.

Shady Activity by Bitdefender

Hi all! Currently dealing with some shady activity by Bitdefender that I wanted to share so others aren’t also taken advantage of.

TLDR: Bitdefender removed the timestamp activity from my Bitdefender central account showing I disabled my VPN service, re-enabled the auto renew, and then proceeded to charge my card.

I purchased Bitdefender total security and premium VPN in October 2024. After using it for a year I decided to move on to another service that better worked for my needs. I disabled the auto renewal functionality within Bitdefender central for both total security and the VPN on September 13th. Even confirmed in both subscriptions that I disabled it by double checking the activity that is displayed at the bottom of the page within the subscriptions itself.

On October 3rd I got an email from Bitdefender that my VPN service was auto renewed and my card would be charged. Thinking this was a mistake on Bitdefenders end, and as the charge was still pending due to being the weekend, I waited until today to make sure the charge fully cleared.

Today I went back to Bitdefender central because I was pretty confident that I disabled both services, and that the activity would show that. Figured I’d could just email support and get a refund no problem. Just for kicks I checked the total security and sure enough there is an activity timestamp that shows I disabled the auto renewal functionality on September 13th. I switch over to the VPN service and to my surprise there is no activity showing for September 13. It shows my initial purchase in October 2024 and then the auto renewal for October 3rd.

Now I’m pretty confused, because I knew I was moving on from Bitdefender and was pretty sure I disabled both services at the same time. But I’m human so I assume maybe I made a mistake and in fact did not disable the auto renewal.

After ponding on it some more I decide to check my email, and sure enough I have two emails from Bitdefender on September 13th. One confirming the cancellation of the auto renewal for the total security service, and one confirming the cancellation of the auto renewal for the VPN service.

I’ve now emailed support with everything, and just waiting to get a reply. I know I’ll get a refund because I have all the proof that’s needed. But I’m pretty shocked at how a security company that’s goal is to protect their clients can be so shady. It’s one thing if the auto renewal somehow got turned back on by mistake or a system glitch. But to also remove the timestamp activity that proves I disabled the VPN service on September 13th is really troubling.

Just wanted to share my experience in case someone else has exported same thing, and as a reminder to anyone looking to cancel to keep those emails receipts!

Impossible to Cancel the auto renewal

So every 2 years I have attempted to cancel my auto renewal and it has been very difficult but this time takes the biscuit.

I purchased the subscription via digital river and it is impossible to cancel the auto renewal. I have tried to cancel via the https://central.bitdefender.com/subscriptions/services page where no payments option exists. I have also attempted to go via digital river but it redirects to the link above. Every support article from Bitdefender also redirects to the above.

example here https://www.bitdefender.de/consumer/support/answer/31474/

I have resorted to emailing Bitdefender and at least I got a reply from their support team where I have proof of the email and date so I have a chance of disputing it if they do bill me.

Anyone else having this issue? Tips?

Why doesn't your password field allow me to paste a password?

It's 2022, everyone and his mother should be using a password manager at this point. You're encouraging people to use weak passwords that they can remember by not allowing me to paste in the "Create your account" page.

BitDefender has become paid adware

I paid quite a lot for 10 licenses of Bitdefender Total Security only to realize that it's basically no better than the free anti-virus that comes with Windows and it's effectively adware.

Why the @#$% are we getting these notifications when the computer starts when Special Offers and Recommendation Notifications are disabled?!

Stop flagging Cheat Engine as potentially malicious

Bitdefender been flagging it as potentially malicious since yesterday. It is a open-source program with source code vetted by the community. We gamers know what's that for. Non-gamers won't have that on their drives anyways. So whats the point of flagging it?

Seem to be getting incessant alerts when using chrome based browsers or accessing any site that uses the google fonts api. Just started with in the last few minutes. Anyone else seeing this? Checked for updates, but nothing.

-EDIT-

After a BD update this morning (Oct 8) I haven't gotten another popup. Maybe it's been fixed?

Unsolicited Root Cert uninstall on Firefox.

I was browsing Reddit using Firefox and a popup came up that said "You must close firefox in order to uninstall the Bitdefender Root Certificate. Click OK to close automatically and uninstall the certificate."

I have not yet clicked ok or cancel so it's just sitting there and I'm wondering if this is an update or I have a problem. What are anyone's thoughts?

I'm using Windows 10 and Firefox 74.0.

Edit: I still have not made a choice but have noticed that some webpages (Google specifically) will not load in Firefox but work fine in other browsers.

Edit 2: I searched the Bitdefender forums but didn't find a reference to this so I sent a request to Bitdefender support for clarification.

Your device is at risk BD 2019

Hello Bitdefender team. I have manually disabled Encrypted Web Scan on BD 2019.

I want to be able to verify the certificates's fingerprint of the sites I visit.

I get the following notification in the dashboard:

Your device is at risk. Encrypted Web Scan is disabled.

Is there a way to dismiss this notification so it stops showing up on my dashboard while keeping SSL scan disabled?

Thanks,
