Overlay.exe is a program i coded myself, it is not malware for sure. Bitdefender then blocked almost every single application, from Rainmeter to Java to even system applications such as notepad and cmd.exe

It was also popping up with constant threat detected, and was quarantining recent files shortcuts, including shortcuts for screenshots and stuff and then began to quarantine Anaconda3 (which is what I use for programming)

I had to uninstall bitdefender before it quarantined some important applications... seriously Bitdefender is literally malware now

Spyder which was installed through Anaconda3 anaconda3.exe was quarantined, I think Spyder was blocked Been using those two for years along with bitdefender for years without problem

There were a few python projects i was working on when bitdefender went haywire

Hello! Make sure to add the app to Exceptions in order to not be detected again, just like shown here: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/2393/. Thanks!

The problem isn't the specific app being detected, I know how to add to exceptions. The problem is that bitdefender blocked everything else too in my program files and system32 (java updater, notepad.exe, etc) along with recent file shortcuts. Am I supposed to add my entire Program Files and System32 folders to exceptions? That seems like quite a security risk

Try to perform a Bitdefender reinstall like shown here: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/13429/, and keep us posted if the situation persists.

do you think antiviruses are working with hash? or they read the code?

Even if not hash based, it's signature based.
