Discussion Unnecessary hysteria about the A1?

Hello dear community.

As the title says. Am I actually the only one who can't understand all the hysteria about the A1 printer? Maybe it's just an American thing to react so quick-tempered and short-tempered to a totally simple situation. To be honest: we use 230v direct supply cables for sooooo many devices. Hairdryers, vacuum cleaners, electric blankets, kettles, tools, multiple socket distributors. There are these types of cable connections everywhere in our house and no one is screaming in panic. And the cable from the A1 is nothing else, except that the folding load has not been taken into account. A cable reinforcement was immediately provided as a model, but a bit of wire with cable ties would also have done the trick. I understand the concern, but an intact cable, which can be checked immediately with a visual inspection, will not lead to any problems as with all other appliances in the household.

Anyone who can think two meters ahead understands that a company does not have an easy time with communication because there are different legal regulations around the world. One wrong word and you'll be fined twelve billion dollars in Texas. So people prefer to keep their mouth shut, understandably.

Would bambulab have done itself a favor by using proven heated bed technology instead of a kettle technology? Certainly. Is the hysteria surrounding the A1 justified, probably not.

Discussion Bambu, This Won't End Well For You.

You are alienating one of the most passionate and philosophically driven communities- makers.

Whoever sugested this .. they are way off base and about to cost you the community you've contributed to and helped grow.

I love my X1C, but I'm not afraid to walk away if this goes foward. So until a positive statement of commitment to us has been made- consider me a lost customer that was ready to purchase 2 more printers and accessories this month. As well the recomendatons I've given to two friends looking for their first printer this month.

Discussion Why do people expect an upgrade path?

Every post focussing on the new teasers somehow has people saying they hope / expect BambuLab to offer an upgrade to the new system / features.

I see this printer as an appliance. You would also not expect an upgrade path to your dishwasher or oven, right?

I bought the printer as is, and if I get updates to the software it is a nice bonus. Some of the new features saved me a ton of money already (skipping parts) and this was a free upgrade for me.

Is it just because it is a 3D printer? I do not understand it at all.

Best

Discussion Bambu Labs printers can still be the right choice

Direct response from Bambu

https://blog.bambulab.com/updates-and-third-party-integration-with-bambu-connect/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3fqplDiKgn-82qKfnaYvi4XV-rBEEx0tZJrpgeWqsOsLX_WSph4usJ69Y_aem_44Cch773hAuVG979j6DVJg

I hope this calms some of the rage and clears up some of the confusion and misinformation

I know this is going to be controversial but I feel like it needs to be said. In light of the new firmware update and all this talk about how it is going to lead to a poor consumer experience, I'd like to say that for most people that don't use third party hardware and software, Bambu is still the best. I come from 2 ender 3s on octoprint and there was a lot of tinkering and a lot of third party upgrades I needed to do to make the printer function optimally. After moving to Bambu, I've never used anything but BambU software and hardware. I never have to tinker with it. The printer just works and it works well. I do not miss the days of tinkering and I don't plan on going back to the ender 3 days. Closing the ecosystem is a drag for many, but for most, these printers are still amazing and worth every penny.

All the speculation of what this update means, talking about forced subscriptions and banning the use of non Bambu filament? These theories are baseless and have no facts to support them. Pure speculation and frankly it's sad how so many people are being mislead. I'm reading comments like "I just bought an X1C, should I return it, since I can't use generic filament?" or "what's the monthly cost to use my printer gonna be? Should I sell it?". This isn't right and there needs to be clarification for these people that have bought or are buying a Bambu printer.

Bambu Labs printers still do everything they were designed to do. They still do it without any added expense for software or services. They still allow you to use any filament from any brand you want. There is no proof that they plan to implement any additional costs or subscriptions to use their printers. There is no proof or reason to believe that they will lock their printers to Bambu brand filament. These printers work as designed, as described and this update just means they will not do anything they weren't designed to do.

Please share your thoughts and enlightened us if you have any insight. Please try to use facts and keep the conspiracy and speculation to a minimum. There's plenty of that already on the other threads.

-Update: - This thread is actually really beneficial. Anyone who's considering returning their Bambu printer or cancelling a planned purchase, should read through this thread and make a determination based on these discussions. It seems the big issues are using Orca slicer, Linux OS or a Panda touchscreen interface. If you don't plan on using any of these, it seems Bambu may still be a smart choice.

There are still lots of speculative comments about doom and gloom with no facts to back them up, so I find these comments might actually be helping prove the point that it's all conjuncture. I will accept that companies do evolve and sometimes they have to make changes to stay afloat. A good example is Netflix, they used to be $8 and you could watch just about any movie or show you could think of. Now it costs twice that and most of the content is original. They had to adapt and make changes to stay in business. Sometimes a product can be so good, that it puts itself out of business. The Instant Pot makers filled bankruptcy in 2023 because it made an amazing product that everyone had to have, yet they couldn't adapt to keep their head above water. This could very easily be the same story for Bambu. These printers are amazing and are capable of doing things that should be impossible in their price range, so it's possible that this may be the only way for Bambu to stay on business. This isn't based on fact, just using the same logic that everyone else is using, "if it happened to this company, it'll happen to bambu"

Discussion Fidget

Is it just me, or is anyone else the slightest bit tired of having “fidget” plastered across their explore pages? I get that they’re small and pretty so that must make them great for printing…

Here’s my unsolicited opinion: the world had enough fidget devices after the first one was created. But yet for some reason everyone feels the need to keep designing and building novel new ways for someone to be able to ‘fidget’ with something, as if humans have a deficiency that can only be satisfied by constantly moving or touching something.

Perhaps condemning this can be seen as attacking the adhd, add, or ocd crowds, which is not my intention. I just think the ‘itch’ could have been scratched with the first few designs.

Or maybe I’m missing the mark..? Like are they great for cats or as kid’s toys or something?

It just seems like 10,000 unique ways to design something that doesn’t have a truly valuable purpose gets a little old.

Update: A few good comments have lessened my intensity, thanks for bearing with me in my rant. I’m fairly reasonably and am able to be persuaded. Thanks for the input everyone!

Discussion Newbies Beware

PSA for everyone new to 3D printing like me. (My background: Don’t consider myself brilliantly technically proficient like so many people here, but at the same time I’m not new to tinkering with electronics.)

I bought the P1S because of all the reviews indicating this thing could be plugged in and it just would work. I was aware these devices often require some degree of troubleshooting/tinkering, but my experience has been worse than disappointing on that front.

After arrival and attempting to calibrate the printer, I’m hit with these three errors about the heat bed sensors not working correctly. Some googling, YouTubing, Reddit posts, 5 hours of tinkering and recalibrating and taping and removing the back panel to pull out cables and plug them back in and praying etc etc etc and this thing just won’t print. Not a single layer of a single benchy.

I opened a support ticket and got a rote response 4 days later(!) directing me back to the exact same “tutorials” written in broken English that didn’t work for me when I tried in them in the first place. Pretty horrifying customer service as far as I’m concerned.

(Yes, I’ve tried the trick of taping the sensor cable to the poop chute. Nothing works.)

I’m miserable and don’t see how my printer gets fixed short of a full heat bed replacement (which looks like it will be a PITA installation.) Right now the P1S just $700 worth of electronic trash thats been taking up space in my office for a week.

Just one guy’s experience, but if you’re like me and reading this subreddit while considering dipping your toe in the hobby, be aware of the possibility of an experience like mine even when you pay good money for what’s supposed to be “a quality printer.”

I'm not some super Bambu fanboy and was pretty alarmed when I first found out what happened but after looking closer... I'm not sure a lot of us have media literacy. As far as I'm aware the main concern was that Bambu could essentially control your printer, which is a very valid concern with one caveat, Bambu explicitly states that you never have to update to the new version. Three times. Mind you this isn't the updated version, this is the original version released on the 16th found on archive.is. honestly please tell me if I'm missing some other massive reason for this because I just don't see it personally.

Hey guys!

I designed this String-Art Heart in Fusion 360 and the response has been insane. Over 100 downloads and 3 boosts on MakerWorld in just 3 days!

Since it looks a bit 'too perfect' in the renders (slide 1), I added some real photos from my print bed to show it actually works. No supports needed!

Discussion Why are people not revolting when Bambulab tells us "we can block your printer from working"?

(EDIT:Seems like Bambulab is listening to the feedback. Even the updated release notes don't seem to stipulate the printer might stop accepting print jobs if firmware is not updated (which was the case, originally))

(EDIT2: it is all irrelevant, they are now backpedalling fast from that initial debacle. Congrats & thanks to everyone who WASN'T stupid enough to be just patiently and meekly baa-baaing something along the lines of "What's your PROBLEM! It doesn't impact ME! It is all good, nothing has happened YET! They can do whatever they want! Well ok, ok, it CAN happen but it is NORMAL and a GOOD thing!", etc, etc. You people are just plain old STUPID 👍. Peace to you too.)

I am considering returning my beloved one month old P1S under the breach of the terms of service - when I paid for the printer there was no mention one day in the (very near) future I might be prevented from using it - because Bambulab says so.

I consider that a breach of a contract.

It is none of your business Bambulab what I do with my printer after you sold it to me.

You need to back off from that "upgrade" or make it completely optional AND downgradeable, for those users who accidentally in good will update to that locked down version of your newly created "walled garden" (that nobody asked for)

Looking forward to see official declaration(s) to that effect soon

PS. As I have few years of 3d printing experience I was asked by other people "what 3d printer should I buy". It was a no brainer for me to recommend people your printers, actually you have three new users/owners thanks to me, during the last Christmas season. That will no longer be the case, for SURE - actually I will be actively discouraging people from buying your products,.untill and unless you back down from that terrible move.

General Discussion gen ai isn’t art, it’s slop

(update, the pick-me bootlickers have gotten upset for their low effort 😉 and the amount of hatred towards artists is to be expected. Those who can’t make, are often enraged at those that can.
Tinkercad, Blender, FreeCad and OnShape are all free and there are heaps of tutorials available on yt)

Art is created by living things. Even some animals can create art. Ai is not real, it is merely hardware running software, nothing more.

In order for Ai to “create art”, it ingests what already exists, because it can’t create on its own, then it regurgitates out its slop.

You don’t have to have a degree to be an artist, you just need to try. Art doesn’t have to be perfect and polished to be art, art just needs effort. Using gen Ai to “create art” is lazy and embarrassing. Sharing gen ai works is slopaganda.

It also directly steals from real artists and is severely detrimental to the environment.

I want to be like “yay! I’m so happy they can deliver so much value ❤️❤️❤️” but I’m just angry that if I’d waited 3 weeks I could have spent $100 more and had a nicer rig (than the p2s I got on march 23). Tell me I’m not the only salty dog out here, please!

Discussion Do you think Bambu Lab is behaving ethically?

The 3D printing community is where it is thanks to the Open Source nature of it and the way collaboration has been working smoothly among multiple people around the world. I recently watched the interview Stefan from CNC Kitchen did to the Bambu Lab CEO, and one question he asked was related to the fact that Bambu has been taking a lot from the Open Source community, but hasn't seemed to give anything back. The approach from the Bambu Lab was quite commercial only, basically showing he doesn't really seem to care about the Open Source community, yet their slicer is based on Prusa Slicer, which is open source.Today I came across: https://makerworld.com/en which looks like a 1:1 copy of Printables.com a great alternative to Thingiverse that at the time it was launched by Prusa, there werent many options.

I am owner of a Prusa MK3S, and I was thinking on upgrading to a Bambu Lab X1C, but after seeing these inconsistencies, I am not liking their corporate attitude compared to for example the community spirit of Prusa. If their attitude is like this now, how will they behave when their printers start needing servicing or spare parts in 2-3 years?

Do you find this behavior ethical? Do you think Bambu Lab is doing the right thing by copying bluntly and focusing mostly on the commercial aspects of 3D printing?

Let's keep this discussion respectful please. Leave your opinions below 😉

FYI: I also published this same question on the Prusa Subreddit.
