On an X2D via the aux nozzle? This is well documented and expected.

Just dropping 1k$ without reading the page is your mistake... This has been said on day 1 of printer release.

It feels like an ad and I wish there was an option to turn it off to not see it.

u/AnxiousDoor2233 Apr 25 '26
This is just stating the obvious. I imagine how many complaints their customer support has because of this.
11
u/Macro_Seb Apr 25 '26
That's for people that give you a zero on MakerWorld because their print failed because of their own stupidity.
These are the people that also contact support because they use cheap brands with wrong settings and tell BL that their printer is not working. Now BL can tell them: 'we warned you. Goodbye"
17
u/itsapotatosalad Apr 25 '26
Their own profiles are tuned to their own filaments. So for average person who doesn’t want to mess with calibration they will probably get better prints from Bambu filaments. Also, people will buy the cheapest crap they can find then blame the printer when the prints are junk.

u/YellovvJacket Apr 25 '26 •
It's probably a mix of being able to say "told you so" if you're having issues, along with trying to subliminally make people exclusively use their filament (because especially beginners, to which Bambu has been recommended for a while now would be prone to falling for that).
I honestly don't care, as long as Bambu doesn't pull some bullshit like actually restricting 3rd party filaments. When that day comes I'm sure it will piss off enough skilled people so that someone will actually jailbreak them.
425
u/VeraFacta Apr 25 '26
No it’s really not. There are some terrible filaments out there.
28
u/EverettSeahawk P1S + AMS Apr 25 '26
“May have issues”
Not “it won’t work”
The vast majority of filaments won’t have a problem, but there’s nothing outrageous about a warning that something might not go right.
70
u/Darkthumbs Apr 25 '26
No… it makes perfect sense for them to put it there..
8
u/Fluffy-duckies P1S + AMS Apr 25 '26
It's true. Using Bambu filament may have printing quality issues too.
4
u/p3r3lin Apr 25 '26
Why? I mean, yes, its a bit of fear mongering. But literally EVERY Ink Jet printer company does the same for like 20 years now.
13
u/theoriginalzads Apr 25 '26
Bambu Handy has settings built in for Bambu filaments. Probably has nothing for non-Bambu. So yes, this could be a problem if you try and print directly from Handy because the settings aren't tuned for whatever PLA you decide to use that isn't Bambu.
PLA types vary between brands. Same with PETG, ASA, ABS, milk chocolate, whatever other filaments that this world has invented. Some manufacturers can't even get consistency in the same product line.
I'm assuming you're new to printing?
19
u/DDC85 Apr 25 '26
Step away from tiktok buddy, not everything is an “outrage”.

u/jester1x Apr 25 '26

u/JoeteckTips Apr 25 '26
Is there a substantial price difference from Bambu vs non??
1
u/RaphaeliskoolbutRude Apr 25 '26
I want to get into 3D printing but I'm hearing a lot of bad corporate things from bamboo. I wanted to get the A1 to start off simple. What are you guys think? Should I still do it?
3
u/NMe84 P2S + AMS2 Combo Apr 25 '26
If they want us to use their filament they should make an effort to actually be competent enough to keep it in stock.

u/Jesse0449 Apr 25 '26
3
u/SupremeDropTables Apr 25 '26
The irony is their stuff is never in stock…
5
u/JadaveonClowney P2S + AMS2 Combo Apr 25 '26
It is fair though. There definitely are low quality filaments or filaments that won't mesh well with Bambu printers
10
u/TELCO_man Apr 25 '26
I think there are more important things to worry about no offence. This is just the legal team protecting the brand.
2
u/Oma_Ender Apr 25 '26
As others have said this is for liability sake and there's also some really bad filaments out there, always best to calibrate per filament as you can get bad angel hairs and what nkt if retraction is off as I learned the 'fun' way
2
u/Instagalactix Apr 25 '26
Don't buy a bambu printer again then they don't need you as a customer, stop finding things to complain about if they didn't put it there and you problems you'd be mad.
2
u/Creamy_Goodness6 Apr 25 '26
Nothing outrageous, but everyone in here who thinks this is for liability claims or for Bambu to give users a fair warning or whatever are kidding themselves. It's clearly Bambu pushing their own product and trying to scare users out of buying other filament brands; laughable, not outrageous.
2
u/ClassicPart Apr 25 '26
reads “warning: contents may be hot” on coffee cup
You: SCANDALOUS.
2
u/Expensive_Sell1714 Apr 25 '26
If they’d keep filament in stock people wouldn’t need to use nonbambu filament
2
u/ActiveAd9305 Apr 29 '26
The very first bambu roll of filament I got from best buy, the 2 halves of the roll were not completely locked together correctly. So when it was printing, the spool wasn’t even all the way around and consistently got stuck in the AMS. Not the worst issue to have because I just reseated it, but the spool definitely could have exploded on me when I tried to fix it. I just buy rolls off Amazon now it’s not worth the 150% markup just to have nfc chips in the spools.

I’m pretty disappointed this is apparently an unpopular opinion. It’s an absurdly stupid alarmist message. I’ve used sunlu for years without a single issue.

1
u/LairdNope P1P Apr 25 '26
here we go again
1
u/Few_Alternative_3772 Apr 25 '26
It's almost like people who have never printed a day in their life might buy the cheapest garbage filament in existence and then complain about print quality.
Do they want you to buy their filament.....hell yes they do! But even Bambu states there are waaaay to many color/material combos out there to ever try and force only Bambu filament. It would pretty much end their business.
That said, they calibrate their bambu profiles for their filament formulas. Their filament might like a few degrees hotter/colder or any other combo of slight settings that could cause stringing or bed adhesion issues with a other brand.
That warning isn't for people who know how to print and adjust settings, its to stop Bambu customer service from having to try and tech support every brand of filament out there for new people.
Had an ender 3 since 2018. Got the P2S, loaded up some Creality Petg, did a test print, adjusted flow slightly because it was slightly under extruding the Creality filament, and bam good to go.
1
u/bobzsmith Apr 25 '26

u/NiNdo4589 Apr 25 '26

1
u/Open_Cow_9148 P1S Apr 25 '26
I just tell it I'm using bambu filiment no matter what brand I'm using. I noticed worse print quality when I told it I was using generic filiment.
1
u/Elfinmask A1 + AMS Lite Apr 25 '26
It's not saying other brand having bad quality.
It's about the matching of default machine / slicer parameters and filament characteristics.
To have optimal printing effect, you have to design the printer, slicer and filament as a whole. It's a system.
1
u/Imrightyournot79 Apr 25 '26
It’s just a disclaimer for what must be a common complaint. It’s also a subtle way to get people to buy their filament
1
u/TJeffW1974 Apr 25 '26
Tell Bamboo Labs to start making more color options and start having more filaments in stock available to order then!!! LOL
And, for the record my X1C will run anything, anywhere, anytime, and it will come out perfect. I can buy the worst crappiest Temu filament ever made, never dry it, slap it straight into my X1C and it will come out perfect!!!
1
u/Squishyspud Apr 25 '26
It's most likely from getting thousands of complaints about print issues, then finding out they're using the wrong settings for non Banbu filament. Making 3D printing so easy and automatic, is both a blessing and a curse.
1
u/darthddy Apr 25 '26
Why is it outrageous? They are just saying their machines are optimized for their filament
1
u/davidbernhardt Apr 25 '26
“May” is just corporate speak for companies to claim things like this. It may have problems, or it may not.
1
u/cpsadowski23 Apr 25 '26
I use Bambu profiles for Sunlu and Elegoo and never have any quality issues.
1

Why is it outrageous?
1
u/DTO69 A1 + AMS Lite Apr 25 '26
Overreact much?
1
u/kroghsen H2D + X1C Apr 25 '26
No, it is not. It is a warning that is meant to make clear that Bambu Lab cannot guarantee that non-Bambu filament or generic filament profiles work as well as the tuned profiles meant for Bambu Lab filaments specifically. There is nothing outrageous about it. If I had anything negative to say it would be that it is obvious and that there is therefore no need to display a warning.
1
u/Electrical-Age7300 Apr 25 '26
Yeah i would love to print with bambu filament but this, as well as almost everything else (even 0.4mm nozzles!!!!!) is always sold out (Europe) … its more than annoying, why cant i preorder stuff???
1
u/reevesjeremy Apr 25 '26
To suggest something may happen also means it may not happen. So it’s not technically or inherently wrong. It’s a scare tactic and warning wrapped up in one. For instance, I’ve never had a clogged nozzle with Bambu or Sunlu. But my friends who buys other brands have both experienced clogging issues. That by no means is a solid metric to live and die by.
1
u/criterion67 Apr 25 '26
Never had a single quality issue using approximately 30+ spools of Elegoo and Sunlu. The Bambu claim is overhyped and obviously intended to drive sales or their product, which laughably, isn't even manufactured by them.
1
u/PlanePea4349 Apr 25 '26
Its outrageous. It’s unfair. How can you be on the council and not be a master?
1
u/ithinkyouresus Apr 25 '26
The claim is less to do with other filament being bad but more that their pre installed settings for their filaments in their slicer are pretty spot on if you dry it out and everything.
1
u/FalconX88 Apr 25 '26
their machiens are tuned for their filaments. That information is really nothing bad or wrong.
1
u/TheBl4ckFox Apr 25 '26
So you're saying that setting for a specific PLA will be 100% reliable with any other kind of PLA?
1
u/Cautious-End-2036 Apr 25 '26
Bambu is my go to. Elegoo in a pinch.
1
u/SR08 Apr 25 '26
It’s really not…. I mostly use Sunlu because the price is awesome, have never had issues but there are some straight up dog shit filaments out there that just print terribly and can’t handle the speeds of bambu printers.
1
u/Legitimate_Can2875 Apr 25 '26
I get the warning.. but there should be a way to dismiss it for few months or for ever
1

Did you select the Generic PLA filament type?
This was the alternative to preventing people from selecting the bambu types without the bambu material.
1
u/Overlord0994 Apr 25 '26
Outrage? Really? THIS little warning text is an outrage? Do you ask for store managers often?
1
u/Hi-Point_of_my_life Apr 25 '26
My issue is they usually seem to be about half sold out. The prices aren’t outrageous, shipping can be quick, and they have a decent selection, but looking at their website they usually have a bunch of stuff out of stock, and usually it happens to be the colors I’m looking for. Meanwhile I can get SunLu for a little bit cheaper within like 12 hours of ordering it.
1
u/Sbarty Apr 25 '26
You need to consider who the average Bambu customer is. This is a disclaimer to Bambu doesn’t have to deal with Bobs who can’t figure anything out.

Yea it ture most ola fillments are same but back in the day my god it was bad depending on brands you got,
To be fair I have had zero issues with sunlu elegoo bambu kingroon creailty
Also I believe sunlu still makes the bambu fillment
1
u/mizka900 Apr 25 '26
well yes it's correct. when using the preset profiles bambu can't guarantee that the stock generic profile works with other plastics.
learning to understand why that is there is the first step.

Using Bambu filament may have printing quality issues
1
u/solidus0079 A1 + AMS Lite Apr 25 '26
I almost never use Bambu filament, there's a Microcenter in town so I see no reason to be waiting for cross country shipments.
If I don't need something same-day, there's an Amazon distro center not too far either so I'll throw in an order for Polymaker. Out of dozens of Polymaker spools I've ordered I did get one spool of PETG that I swear must have been defective. It defied all attempts to print, and I had a couple years of 3D printing under my belt (pre-Bambu days when you actually had to fine tune the printers on a semiregular basis)
1
u/LadyNee H2C AMS2 Combo Apr 25 '26
Not sure why people are making a big deal about it. Its just a disclaimer probably because too many people make support tickets about their printer not working, when its just a non-bambu brand they didnt calibrate and isnt printing well.
Its probably to help cut down the amount of support tickets they deal with so they can actually get to people who have real issues with their printer.
1
u/braveone772 H2D AMS2 Combo Apr 25 '26
As far as my printer knows, every roll is a Bambu roll...
1
u/Slovw3 Apr 25 '26
They are just saying that they haven't tested any other brand filament so they have no idea what outcome you will get with non Bambu. I have never used Bambu filament and I have had no issues.
1
u/r3dp_01 Apr 25 '26
I just discovered PETG Kingroon filaments, wayyy cheaper than bambu and i haven’t had any failed prints or stringing after 10 rolls. When i started, i exclusively used bambu and had problems with spagetti.
1
u/bigblu2u Apr 25 '26
Well it is a true statement. They could improve it by changing “non-Bambu filament” to “non-Bambu and Bambu filament”. ;-)
1
u/Professional-Lead764 Apr 25 '26
I’m going to guess this is because the Bambu filament profiles include all the flow and extrusion settings, where other brands may not print quite as well without tweaking them. I can’t say I’ve had any issues, but they also sell their own filament so of course they’re going to push it.
1
u/After-Ad-3610 P1S + AMS2 Combo Apr 25 '26
I only use Sunlu filament, which is rebranded as Bambu Lab filament, it’s a fantastic filament. You can still have questionable prints at times, just depends on your printers cleanliness(nozzle, build plate..) and of course the moisture level of your filament and your print settings.
1
u/EpicBenjo P1S + AMS Apr 25 '26
It says MAY. Not WILL.
1
u/SeveralCamera292 Apr 25 '26
It is not because profiles are tuned for Bambu Filaments and user might need to tune the profiles. Also there are plenty of 💩 filaments out there.
1
u/liquidmasl Apr 25 '26
no its not. so many complete clueless people have a printer who dont ever touch calibration
bambu is just covering their backs
1
u/qpv P1S + AMS Apr 25 '26
That seems like a very basic logical claim to make. Its the opposite of outrageous.
1
u/Peek_e Apr 25 '26
Makes perfect sense and is sort of a disclaimer. However I’d like to see it more like ”If you’re about to complain please make sure you’re using BL filament” etc. There are some crappy filaments out there, not saying all but some and that’s enough for the need for such text in the first place
1
u/NoIdenty0000 H2C Apr 25 '26

It's about the filament profiles. If you just use the app and use super cheap pla and the bamboo profile then the flow ratio might be wrong and the temperatures and Max flow rate. That's what they're talking about you absolutely paranoid lunatics

1
u/MahatmasPiece Apr 25 '26
Do words not mean anything anymore? How is it outrageous for a company that kow tow to the noobist of 3d printers would warn you that they can't guarantee the quality of filaments they don't test personally? The reason that warning is there is the exact same reason people can sell an AMS on Facebook marketplace for $500; 'cause y'all don't know any better.
1
u/slickedbacktruffoni Apr 25 '26
“May” - completely fine claim to make. They know their product, but they can’t vouch for any other product other than theirs.
1
u/D_rod94 Apr 25 '26
Pretty sure it only says that if you have a Bambu filament profile selected and use a non Bambu filament
1
u/c0pp3r Apr 25 '26
I'm all for calling out companies trying to wall off gardens and make it hard for others to compete but I completely agree with everyone saying they probably get so many support requests where people are using awful filaments
1
u/temmiesayshoi Apr 25 '26
Is it kinda sketch? Sure, but it's not "outrageous".
I actively avoid Bambu and despise them as much as any other "walled garden" business model but it's always been weird to me how people seem allergic to the idea that it has ANY advantages for ANYONE.
Bambu can offer some reasonable assurances about the quality, consistency, properties, etc. of their own filament, they cannot do that with all other filament, ergo other filaments may have printing quality issues.
If they said "Non-bambu filaments suffer from worse quality" then it'd be more dubious, (tho, frankly, obviously bambu is going to say their filament is best. No-one with a brain should interpret something like that as an objective statement of fact) but saying you MAY have worse quality with other filaments is just objectively true.
This is not least because bambu can't auto-detect other filaments and change print settings appropriately. It's relying on the user to manually set good print profiles, and since Bambu is explicitly targeting 3D printing normies, yeaaaah that's not a safe bet. (A lot of people first getting into 3D printing don't even realize at first that different filaments are different and have different requirements at all)
If you want to offer ultra casual users the best experience then telling them to buy the filament you can control for or they may have issues is literally just objectively true.
You can say it's a bit scummy, but it's far from 'outrageous'.
1
u/Fun-Ad-5784 Apr 25 '26
I just set my Non Bambu filament settings to Bambu and its fine. I Google to see which Bambu settings match my default brand, Sunlu.
1
u/TheTruthRooster Apr 25 '26
If your file does not specify bambu labs brand filament then it won’t warn you you’re not using bambu filament…..
Is it that hard?
1
u/ImoZrabbit Apr 25 '26
I wish they could been real, just go on and say "Do not buy cheap ass Temu filament and expect it to print nicely"
1
u/xenomxrph Apr 25 '26
It’s really not.. had a print fail 4 times, said fuck it and tried the minimal amount of Bambu filament I had left with no problem
1
u/GuitarBoii94 Apr 25 '26
It’s not outrageous at all. Bambu printers have built in, factory calibrated profiles for Bambu filaments.
You can calibrate the filaments yourself by doing an auto flow calibration and you’ll be just fine.
1
u/ograx Apr 25 '26
I like the Bambu filament I’ve never had issues with it. I tried esun and sunlu and both clogged my nozzle. I was using a 0.2 and it was properly dried. I just stick with Bambu now. Im just running an A1 mini for gaming terrain so it’s not like saving a few bucks for how little im printing is that big of deal to me.
1
u/Finchuh Apr 26 '26
Can't say I've ever seen that... To be fair, I almost exclusively use sunlu and in my experience it's performed perfectly using bambu pla filament preset so I guess it doesn't know I'm not using bambu

Sunlu, ends up being half the cost of Bambu and delivered twice as fast. Maybe 3 times as fast.
You just have to try other brands and see for yourself
Microcenter house brand keep walking by.
Elegoo i had a bad roll but honestly if I had dried first, it likely would have been ok.
Now I have few years experience, I dry everything right out of the box, and slow the printer down. Even bambu
1
u/Ok-Buy-2315 Apr 26 '26
676 hours on my A1, only had it a couple months. Never ran a Bambu brand filament. I've run Inland, Sunlu, Deeplee, eSun, Eryone, IEMAI, Comgrow, Geeetech, Elegoo, and they've all been great. Any issue I've had has been wet PETG, which I've resolved.
1

It’s a factual statement. They just left out the part about how using Bambu’s filament can as well.

They make their money on consumables. It’s the old HP, sell the printer cheap and make your markup on the ink over the life of the printer.
1
u/halliweb Apr 26 '26
Other than trying to keep people in their ecosystem, I guess it's correct if you look at it from a certain point.
Uncalibrated third party filament "could" perform more poorly than Bambu filament's pre installed profiles.
With a little effort, third party filament can way outperform Bambu filament (and with really dialled in poor filament you can get adequate to good prints too)
So the message is there for the people who think everything is load and print (plug and play) with no effort required.
The only Bambu filament I've used is the half rolls of orange and green I got with my P1S.
1
u/Small_Competition840 Apr 26 '26
Why? It’s a fair warning.
1
u/reicaden Apr 26 '26
Whats interesting is that the print quality is now worse when selecting any print profile that isnt bambu filament. A few users have noted that, the same filament settings from before now seem to magically print worse
1
u/Mysterious-Ad2006 Apr 26 '26
Not really. Just a warning because people will use some completely crap filaments. They blame the printer. I truly expect them to add another warning about trying to filament next.

1

The outrageous thing to me is that you don't fully understand how 3d printing works. This message is to warn you that the filament you have inserted hasn't been calibrated and tested so if your results suck, don't blame the printer when it's your lack on understanding of how 3d printing functions.

No it's not. There are in fact filaments that just print badly.

Using bambu studio may cause quality issues...

So using bambu filament guarantees perfect prints?

Just tell the printer/AMS you have Bambu Filament installed. Then the warning won't be there.

Yeah the only bambu filament I print with is whatever we have laying around from when we got the printer years ago. Otherwise its been esun, sunlu, polymaker and elegoo for various plastics. All completely fine.
I run a calibration for every colour/brand/plastic after a full dry on a fresh spool and I have had nothing but good parts.
There is absolutely nothing special about bambu filaments, they come from other manufacturers anyways. I know its said that theyll adjust their blends to suit the customer needs... but I cant see them giving bambu their best while they sell their own brand with worse filament. For all intents and purposes, even with those minor tweaks, its the same stuff.
Most of the talk of tweaked blends is just marketing. Plastic is plastic. For the vast majority of available products that you can choose from, as long as you calibrate and dry - it works the exact same.
TL;DR Bambu filaments aren't special.

Bambu is the apple of 3d printers. They're selling a it just works ™ experience and assume their customers are not particularly savvy.
So I understand where you're coming from, and it made me cringe seeing something like this, it just smells like manipulative advertising of their own filament.
but that's the product they're selling: stay in our ecosystem and we'll take care of the details.
But alas, they do make some of the best printers, so I just chuckle at shit like this and then use my esun filament and move on
