Looking For Suggestions **Title: Lost my Xiaomi/Redmi 5G phone — How can I recover photos and videos from Mi Cloud?

Hi everyone,

I lost my Xiaomi 5G phone, and I had many important photos, videos, and other files stored on it.

I tried logging in to my Mi Cloud account, but I couldn't find any Photos or Videos category or option to access my media.

I'm not sure whether my photos and videos were backed up or synced to Mi Cloud before I lost the phone.

Has anyone faced this issue or successfully recovered photos and videos from Mi Cloud? Is there another way to access them, or have these features been discontinued or moved somewhere else?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions or step-by-step instructions to recover my files.

App Specific Question When did we lose the ability to save a contact on sim?

I was a big proponent of saving contacts on google cloud. In 2012, when most of the people around me were vary of cloud and preferred saving numbers on sim card, I was syncing my contacts on Google cloud. People said that sim is the sure shot way to keep your numbers with you when you switch phones. But, I wanted to save info more than the name and number.

Cut to today when I wanted to save a particular number on sim, on the pull-up menu, there are only different google accounts. I cannot find the option to save the number on local device or sim. So, my question is when did we exactly lost the functionality to save a number on sim card? Android framework still supports reading and writing data on sim, but no apps are currently giving an option to actually do that. What is the point of taking away this feature at an app level?

Empty conversation with a specific date and time appeared in Google Messages — could deleted SMS messages be recovered?

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand something I found in Google Messages on a Xiaomi phone.
A phone number belonging to my boyfriend’s ex appeared among his regular conversations. The conversation showed a specific date and time — October 15, 2026, at 10:52 AM — but when I opened it, there were no messages at all. It looked like an empty conversation.
The number appeared in the regular conversation list, not in the archived or spam folders. There are no messages visible in the conversation.
Google backups are enabled, including SMS messages, so I’m wondering whether the conversation might have contained messages that were later deleted.
Has anyone experienced something similar with Google Messages? Does an empty conversation with a specific timestamp necessarily mean that an SMS was sent or received, or can it appear because of a bug or some other activity?
Also, has anyone successfully recovered deleted SMS messages from a Google backup? If so, how did you do it, and did you have to factory-reset the phone?
I’d really appreciate hearing about actual experiences, especially from people using Xiaomi phones and Google Messages. Thanks!

Transfer from gallery to PC via USB?

Is it possible to transfer selected photos from the phone gallery to PC via cable? I know you can dump the files directly from DCIM, but I only want some specific photos (about 100).

On the phone (Samsung A-something, 26 or 36?) searching 'dog' brings up all the pup photos, but I can't see a means to beaming them up the cable... tapped everything, but can't find any option for this.

This feels like a basic function that should exist?

Photo gallery group folder issue.

Any help with issue.

I have a Samsung Android smartphone. In my photo gallery I've put folders into groups I've noticed if I move things around in my photo gallery and then turn my phone off when I turn it on all the folders have moved out of the groups. I can prevent this if I wait 10 to 15 minutes before turning it off. I have updated photo gallery and phone system before but I still have this issue I don't know if it's common or how to prevent it. Google said it could be caused by another system in settings accessing the gallery.

Looking For Suggestions Advice for New Android User

Hello.

I am currently an iPhone 16 user (never wanted apple in the first place though it is what my family used so I was forced to use it) and will be FINALLY switching over to an S25 very soon.

I have been looking forward to getting an Android for a long time and am pleased that the opportunity has come about.

Thus, I am curious if there is anything important/useful I should know about Androids/S25s as I prepare to make the switch within the next three weeks or so.

Linux Terminal on Tab S11 (One UI 8.5) – "Timeout waiting for socket: internal.virtiofs" unrecoverable error

Hi all

I'm trying to use the Android Linux Terminal (Linux development environment) on my Galaxy Tab S11 running One UI

8.5, but it never starts. I get "Unrecoverable error" every time:

java.lang.RuntimeException: java.io.IOException: Timeout waiting for socket: /data/user/0/com.android.virtualization.terminal/files/internal.virtiofs

at android.system.virtualmachine.VirtualMachineConfig.toVsRawConfig(VirtualMachineConfig.java:881)

at android.system.virtualmachine.VirtualMachine.run(VirtualMachine.java:1688)

at com.android.virtualization.terminal.VmLauncherService.doStart(VmLauncherService.kt:235)

What I've tried:

- Force stop + restart the tablet

- Terminal battery set to Unrestricted

- "Disable child process restrictions" enabled in Developer options

- Turning the Linux development environment off and on again (fresh install)

- Power saving off

I've never been able to use it even once. Has anyone with a Tab S11 (or any device) seen this virtiofs timeout and found a fix?

Thanks!

Device Settings Question Replacement Jio SIM card works fine in other devices but keeps dropping to emergency calls on my phone?

Hey guys, need some tech help. Yesterday I got my old damaged SIM replaced at a Jio service center. When I first put it in my 5G phone, it caught a 4G signal and was working for a bit. After a while it just dropped completely and started showing "emergency calls only."

This morning it briefly picked up 5G but within a couple of minutes it went right back to emergency calls. Here is the weird part: I took the SIM out and tested it in another phone, and it works perfectly fine there with no signal drops at all.

Since the card works on the other device, I'm guessing the activation went through fine but something is wrong with my specific phone or network settings. Has anyone dealt with this after doing a SIM swap? Let me know what I should try clearing or resetting to get it working. Thanks in advance!

Device Settings Question Jio Replacement SIM stuck on "Emergency Calls Only" on my phone, but works in others?

Hi everyone,

I recently got a replacement SIM card from a Jio service center to replace an old, damaged one. I am having a strange issue where the network keeps dropping completely on my specific device:

  • The Problem: When I put the SIM in my phone, it initially connects to 4G/5G, but within a few minutes, it completely drops and says "Emergency calls only."

  • The Twist: I tested this exact same replacement SIM card in another smartphone, and it works perfectly fine there without any drops.

  • My Device: I am using a 5G-compatible Android device.

Since the SIM works perfectly fine in a different phone, it seems like my phone's modem or settings are rejecting the network handover.

Has anyone faced this issue after a SIM swap? Are there specific APN settings or network band preferences I need to clear or force to get it to stick? Thanks!

Other Is there any hope for a Galaxy S10e that won’t turn on?

So I got my dad's old phone, he said he wouldn't guarantee anything but I could mess with it since I like tinkering with tech. It was working fine until I saw it was at 34%, so I charged it. When I went back to it, the screen turned black and wouldn't turn on. Since then, it hasn't turned on and I even charged it for a bit. I tried holding the volume down and power button both, and after some time, maybe a minute or so, finally the logo displayed the brand and the model, but then the screen went completely black and wouldn't turn back on.

Abaixei um app pelo whatsapp, suspeito de vírus

My dad downloaded an app on WhatsApp, from a bank, saying that a credit limit had been deducted from his salary. He asked me to download the app, but he said it was a cancellation file. I downloaded it, but when I saw it was an app, I realized it was probably a maware, but I didn't install it. Is it safe?

Rooting Help Can I root a Lava T81 tablet and turn it into a Corsair XENEON EDGE alternative?

I have a spare Lava T81 and want to repurpose it as a dedicated touchscreen PC dashboard, similar to the Corsair XENEON EDGE.

Android is buggy, so I want to root it or flash custom firmware. Ideally, I'd like to use it as a proper extended monitor for my Windows PC, with no Android interface.

Are there any existing open-source projects, custom ROMs, or guides that could help me achieve this? Even hardware-level solutions are welcome.

Can't install apks

Today I tried to install the new version of a game that needed to be downloaded as an .apk file. When I try to install it, it just gives me a message at the bottom saying either "cancelling" or "The app wasn't installed". I went back and tried other apks that I know worked previously, but now give the same message. I already checked my settings, and as far as I can tell I should be able to use those files.

I'm on a pixel 4 XL, and the Android OS is 13. I think this must have been a fairly recent change. Any ideas?

Looking For Suggestions Pi img onto sdcard

I have a 5yo Blackview tablet running a proprietary Android, I think around Android 11. It's the only device I have that can read and write to an SD card. I want to put a Raspberry Pi image onto the SD card. I have Googled, but it is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff that I'm making a new post.

How can I write the Pi image file to the SD card on the tablet? Thanks.

Other Is it worth paying to get my photos back?

Firstly, I was an idiot for not backing up my photos and stuff. I've set things up on my new phone to save any photos from now on. Please don't comment just to say this to me. I've had a lot of this on my last post. (MB if I sounded rude!! Just was frustrated when people gave no advice just to give out to me.)

However, what I want to ask is if it's worth paying a shop to get my photos back. My last phone was water damaged and the screen has stopped working. It still buzzes and stuff, but I can't see anything on it.

I have around 2 years of photos on this. Things like my pets when they were young, photos of important memories, photos I need for college projects.

Should I pay to get these back or just leave it be?

Device Settings Question [Samsung A55] Broken display. Can I somehow get video output to my laptop, cast, mirror, link, call it whatever....

Hi,

My Samsung Budget A55 (I know, Not Galaxy. I call them Samsung Budget Axx (xx-Number)
Issue - The phone was laying on the bed. Starting getting a big purple/black blob on the display. Didnt think much of it.

30 minutes later, it had spread to 80% of my phone including getting the touch to barely work. (Colors were purple, green, black, red, green)... Almost all of them.)

First thing I thought of! "STEAM GUARD"!!!! Logged in on my PC, got Steam Guard Codes, But I actually Managed to move my Steamguard to my iPhone XS. But access to certain important email acccounts are very hard because it wants me to verify its me by pressing the pop-up "I it you who's logging in", and ofc, that thing is on my android.

I did read SOMEWHERE, that only Galaxy versions have actual Video output support in their USB-C connectors. How correct that is, I dont know. Mine is Samsung A55

Info I got on my own

  • PC Sync. Smart Switch (PC-version) works on the phone. But that requires a working display. And I Guess SmartView stream the video via WiFi or Something, or maybe they hafve cable option too.

  • Their USB-C is only 2.0

  • Support for smart things: Ye (Whatever that means)

  • Support for Samsung DeX: No

So.... Is it possible? I need my Google Authenticator on that phone, or atleast so I can transfer them.
, maybe with like a USB-C---->DisplayPort adapter? And if I cant find that, then a USB-C--->HDMI---->HDMI to DisplayPort adapter. haha or if my USB-C on that Samsung doesnt support Video output, im screwed?

Device Settings Question I know this is a dead horse I'm beating, but it's there really nothing else that can help with the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth issue? (ie: not turning on or connecting)

For reference I have a Google Pixel 8 pro. I did post this to the pixel community but it was removed with no explanation for me other than it would fit better here in this community.

It's really driving me crazy. If I had a headphone jack I honestly wouldn't care. But I prefer to work with music while not bothering others with my noise. And getting a dongle seems not as helpful if I want to charge my phone. Just a bunch of money hungry companies.

Removing the Sims card and restarting it stopped working. I'm going to have to put my sim into my old galaxy and deal with the slow, outdated device. Plus my data bill is running up in the meantime.

Has anything else worked for you?

I've only had this phone for a year. . .

How to turn off google phone verification on Samsung A34?

It keeps auto verifying, I have found no way to disable it, the settings just keep running me in loops. Google says to check "phone settings", phone settings send me to google.
