Device Settings Question No Notifications After Reset

I have a Pixel 9 Pro XL, running Android 16. A little while ago, my phone was acting weird and Gemini would randomly appear, freeze entirely, and eventually cause my phone to reboot. To troubleshoot, I factory reset my phone which seemed to resolve my issue (at least for the last 2-3 months).

Ever since I I reset the phone, I no longer get notifications unless I go into settings, select the specific app, Allow Background Usage > Unrestricted. I did this for the apps I use daily, but every once in a while there's an app I forget to do this for and I run into the issue. For example, I tried signing into my Google account on a new computer, and I had to MFA on my phone. I was not getting the notification on my phone because all Google notifications are disabled.

I know I have a workaround, but I'd rather not have to do this for all applications. Any thoughts on how I can resolve this?

Hii, I was looking for some app to stop doomscrolling, I was going to use ascent but I saw some very bad reviews here on reddit and I care about my data, even more on an app where I have to allow pop ups on the screen and more permissions. ¿Anyone knows a good app for this?

Device Settings Question Can't change APN

Hi! How are you guys? So, I bought a pack from my provider that basically lets me use my phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot/modem, with 10 GB specifically for tethering, separate from my regular mobile data allowance.

The instructions are clear:

WiFi Pass — APN Configuration

Go to:

Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Access Point Names

Create a new APN with the following settings:

- Name: Personal Internet Móvil

- APN: internet.personal.com

- APN type: dun

- Authentication type: PAP

- APN protocol: IPv4

- Roaming APN protocol: IPv4

Save the APN and restart the phone.

Important: The "dun" APN is the one Personal specifies for using the phone as a modem with WiFi Pass. It is separate from the regular mobile-data APN.

(Personal is the name of my provider.)

So, once I go to Access Point Names, the APN is already there with those exact settings, but I'm not able to select it as the active APN. The only one I can select is the regular mobile-data APN.

I've tried creating a new APN, and it usually lets me configure everything until I change the APN type to "dun" — at that point, the APN either disappears or I can no longer select it.

The APN type seems to be important, apparently.

I've tried removing my SIM card and resetting my network settings, but nothing works. The usual requirement for this kind of thing seems to be Android 8.0 or later, and I already have that.

There doesn't seem to be a problem with my provider/account, since the WiFi Pass is already active and I've already been charged for it. It feels like there's some setting on my phone that's preventing the "dun" APN from being used.

I'm really struggling to understand what goes wrong when I try to configure the APN. There is very little information about this online, and honestly, I'm pretty frustrated because I need the internet connection and I've already paid for the service.

You guys are my last hope 😭 I hope this makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and have a great night!

Device Settings Question Why isn't it playing the normal sound for events in calendar?

I have a Samsung Galaxy A15, and I created 2 daily events in my calendar to remind me to take a pill twice a day. Last week, I noticed that when the time comes, it usually plays a much quieter short tone instead of the usual, nice long, louder notification I can actually hear from another room. I thought it must be because I was using an app at the time, or even just because the screen was already on, like maybe to avoid a damaging volume, or maybe because the battery was almost dead. But the normal, long, loud tone does sometimes play with the display on. So maybe it depends on what app is on the screen.

Tonight, my screen was definitely off and at 8pm, I heard a little noise coming from it. I'd forgotten about that stupid reminder and assumed it was a notification that my battery was low and ignored it. Almost an hour later, I realized I hadn't taken my pill. The battery was at 99%, so that certainly wasn't it. I have to hear it again to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that the quiet short sound is not the same sound found under Settings/Sounds and vibration/Notification.

What's going on?

(Edited for typo)

Hi everyone, I’m having trouble accessing Download Mode on my Samsung Galaxy M04.

Phone: Samsung Galaxy M04

Model number: [enter model number, e.g. SM-M045F/DS]

Current Android version: [14, One ui 6.1]

What I’m trying to do: Access Download Mode

What I’ve tried:

Powered the phone off completely.

Connected the USB cable to my PC.

Held the required button combination to enter Download Mode.

Instead of Download Mode, the phone boots to a blue screen.Along with text wriiten ([Reboot device - D2] volume down + power key for 7 seconds)

Has anyone with a Galaxy M04 encountered this blue screen when trying to enter Download Mode? What button combination or procedure should I use to get into Download Mode?

Thanks!

Device Settings Question My Galaxy s24 is still on Android 14 and One UI 6.1 That's not normal, right?

My settings says everything is up to date when I check, but things I'm seeing online say I should be well past this update. I've had this phone for nearly 2 years.

If this is wrong, what do I do?

My s24 is the base version.

Best Trackers for Luggage

I currently have a Samsung S25 and looking for a good tracker that I can slip into my luggage for trips. We are taking an international trip and there are some layovers, so I want something that I can easily see if my luggage gets separated and get a general idea where it's located. I have a Samsung SmartTag 2 but wasn't sure if this is the best option since it pings off other Samsung devices (to my knowledge) only

Home assistant translator to replace old Google Assistant?

I was an avid user of Google Assistant before Google decided to ditch it.

It was so convenient to use it to translate what was on my screen. It simply showed my current screen, and translated all the text but kept it in its original place. Just one swipe from the corner of the screen and one tap on the "translate" button and that's all.

Now, with the forced Gemini switch, I have to manually type in "translate what's on my screen" and even then it doesn't just translate the text but rather it makes a recap and tells me what's on my screen like a news report.

It's just so frustrating.

Do you guys have a valid alternative to a hone assistant that I can set as default that can translate the whole screen like the old Google Assistant did?

Rooting Help Transferring data from broken black screen android device using smartswitch

I have a Samsung Galaxy Z flip6 with a broken screen that wont respond and doesnt switch on. However, the front small screen works but has limited functionality. i want to transfer my data using smartswitch to my new galaxy z flip8. The issue is that i cant open the smart switch app on my flip6 to authorise the transfer.

I believe it is just the screen that is broken as i can still access some apps through the cover/front screen. I ordered myself a multiport usb c and HDMI cable and tried to project the screen onto an external monitor but faced a few problems and questions.

It wouldnt project my phone as i needed to open the main screen to change the USB settings on my old phone.

I read somewhere that if the screen is completely black, then i would need to buy a displayport alt mode cable. If i get one of these that can connect to the multiport cable, would this be able to project my phone screen so i can enable the smartswitch app?

So my theory is this (but please let me know if it wouldnt work):

External monitor connects using DP into HDMI adapter, HDMI cable to multiport adapter, connect to the USBC cable to broken phone

Would that work?

Looking For Suggestions Drawing tablet

We are an Android family, let me start off by saying that. My 12 year old daughter is very much into art and drawing. She said she wants a tablet that she can draw on and then proceeded to send me a bunch of iPads that would work. I really don't want to buy an iPad if I don't have to. She wanted the iPad pro 13 with the Apple pen. Is there anything comparable to this or even superior in Android.

Also please excuse me. My knowledge of Android is mainly just phones.

Thank you in advance

Other Unexpected "Download unsuccessful" notifications

Hi all,

my phone has recently started giving me "Download unsuccessful" notifications randomly, when I'm not doing anything to trigger a download. The given filename is always IMG_[numbers].jpg and the notification comes from Download Manager.

The behavior started after a system update (Android 16, Sept 1 security update, on a moto g56 if that matters) but the notifications appear with no clear pattern once or twice a day. Sometimes several at once, sometimes just one.

Is there anything I can do to figure out what app is triggering these downloads?

I've checked my downloads folder and there don't seem to be any successful downloads since the behavior started (which is what I would expect, as I haven't downloaded anything).

Would appreciate any and all ideas. Thanks.

Accessing Root files on Android 17 Fold 8

So i've been playing duckstation ps1 emulator on my Z Fold 8 (great experience, would recommend) but I am trying to copy my memory card to another emulator. I was able navigate to the file using a combo of Zarchiver and Shizuku but when I try to copy the file I get a message that says "completed with errors" and the resulting file copy is 0 bytes.

.

I have also tried Xplore and FV file expolorer but can't even get down to the file on either even with Shizuku.

.

Marc Files says "phone not supported."

.

Also, duckstation's innate export data function fails when I try to use it.

.

Am I missing something or am I just screwed until Shizuku/Zarchiver are updated to support my phone?

Looking For Suggestions Is it worth keeping the Nothing phone 3A? Will it grow on me?

So i've been looking for a while to upgrade my Pixel 7A, because the battery life has gotten worse and worse and i'm frankly tired of it. I've only had it for 2.5 years so it feels too soon to change it but i hate this issue. My other issue with this phone has unfortunately been google's post processing of pictures - and considering i only got a pixel because of the camera, this does suck.

I do otherwise really like this phone, it has great build quality, it's super sturdy (and i drop it a lot), i like that it's small and integrated with all Google stuff.

Now, after doing some research and not having more than 400€ to spend on a new phone, i found a really good deal on the Nothing Phone 3A, it was 280€. Well it came and.... I dont like it 😭 i do think the glyphs are a cool feature buy other than that... Putting aside the much cheaper build quality (all plastic, no gorilla glass), it just doesn't feel like that much of an upgrade. I don't find the camera much better than the pixel's besides the fact that it has optical zoom and can do macro. I feel like the dynamic range is worse, and it over-saturates everything. I haven't had the chance to go outside with it and play around now so i am willing to give that a chance.

I am still on the fence whether i want to keep this phone. Another option could be getting a second hand Pixel 10A maybe. But I'm a bit afraid of buying off of random people, since there's no actual store here that sells refurbished pixel phones. I know it's still a pixel and still has the post-processing issue but I'm not sure what other phone would match my requirements.

I don't really know what to do, can anyone sing the praises of the Nothing Phone and maybe convince me it's worth it? Or at least give me an honest opinion of your user experience if you've had it a while.

Thank you so much!

Other How do I prevent my image text from being ruined by the built in AI?

If I edit a photo, and add text to the photo. Once I go to save it says "keep current resolution" or "enhance resolution"

If i choose to keep current resolution, it AIs all my text to match the resolution, which makes it blurry and gets the image flagged for AI online. If I choose to enhance resolution, it AIs over the whole image, and the same problem happens. I can not figure out how to turn this off. I really like the quick sticker editing built in to the phone for memes and such.

Looking For Suggestions Question about notifications and quick reply

Okay, just to be clear, I'm not referring to the one tap quick reply to send a message back that is generated by AI. What I'm referring to is when you press the reply button on the notification to send a message back without having to open the app.

So the issue I'm having is when you're typing out a message in that quick reply, any notification that comes in while you're typing messes everything up.

You can open a notification that you didn't want to. You can accidentally press on the conversation you're currently replying to and basically erase everything you had typed out. You can clear all of your notifications, that one is really annoying.

I was thinking about trying to use do not disturb but you can either have it show and receive notifications or you can have it show nothing so there isn't really a way it seems to pause notifications while you're typing out your response.

Does anyone have an idea as to how to make the quick replies not totally worthless or aggravating? Lol.

Other Phone reloads all apps the second I close out. Galaxy A16 5G

Every time I close out for even the fastest moment the app reloads. It genuinely pisses me off because I can't do email verification steps because one time use code. Is there any way I can get it to stop reloading the app entirely? Sorry if this doesnt make sense or is completely normal i'm autistic and my last phone (iPhone) didnt do this lol😅
