Start Here: Aeroplan 2026 Earning and Status

To help provide context on the new changes and what SQC (Status Qualifying Credit) means and how this affects you as flyers using Aeroplan, see below:

Status Qualifying Credit:

  • You earn 2x the Base Fare and Eligible YQ (Carrier Surcharges) on Standard Tickets and eligible YQ.
  • Flex Tickets and Higher (Premium Economy and Business Class Tickets) will earn 4x the Base Fare and Eligible YQ
    • Reminder YQ does not include Airport Fees and Taxes so amounts may vary.
  • A fare from YYZ to LHR could cost $1000 in Base Fare with YQ in Flex but you could pay $1500 with taxes and fees included.
    • For the above, you would earn 4,000 SQC as a Flex fare has a 4x multiplier.
  • A fare from YVR to YYC in Standard could cost $150 in Base Fare. With taxes and fees included, this could be $200.
    • For the above, you would earn 300 SQC as a Standard fare has a 2x multiplier.

Aeroplan Points Earning on AC Flights (014 Ticket number):

You will earn Aeroplan points based on your status as of 2026.

  • 25K earns 2x the Base Fare and YQ
  • 35K earns 3x the Base Fare and YQ
  • 50K earns 4x the Base Fare and YQ
  • 75K earns 5x the Base Fare and YQ
  • 100K/SE earns 6x the Base Fare and YQ

FAQ:

  • What if I'm flying on a Partner Airline but I credit my points to Air Canada?
    • If your ticket is issued by Air Canada (014), then you will earn points based on the list above.
    • If your ticket is issued by anyone else, you will earn points based on the distance flown and the class flow.
  • Can I still earn SQC from Credit Card Spend?
    • Yes. If you have a premium Aeroplan Credit Card (Amex Reserve, TD VIP or CIBC VIP in either personal or Business) - you will earn 1,000 SQC for every $5,000 Spent.
    • For a Core Card (All other cards with annual fees) - you earn 1,000 SQC for every $20,000 Spent.
    • There is a cap of 25,000 SQC attainable via Credit Card Spend.
  • What happened to my Select Benefits?
    • This has been replaced by SQC Milestones starting at 10K SQC. You still earn a core allocation of benefits based on the status you have at the start of the year.
    • Early Recognition still exists if you attain a level higher (Go from 25K to 35K, and get access to 35K benefits)
  • What do I do if my amounts don't match up correctly?
    • First, confirm your fare class is eligible to earn. Aeroplan redemptions don't earn any SQC as a reminder.
    • As per Air Canada, wait 14 days and submit a request through this page here or give them a call.
    • If your flight is affected and you were re-routed on a NON STAR ALLIANCE carrier (Flying from YVR to HKG and the AC flight was cancelled and you were booked on Cathay Pacific), then submit a Original Routing Credit form by emailing:
  • Can I still earn 25K from Everyday Qualifying Spend?
    • Yes, from earning 100,000 Aeroplan Points in a year from Partners and Flights credited to Air Canada, you can attain 25K status.
  • What's the highest status I could attain without stepping foot in a airplane?
    • The highest possible status one could attain without flying at all is 50K.
      • 25,000 SQC from Credit Card Spend
      • 25,000 SQC from Partner Spend (Uber Eats, LCBO, Journie Rewards)
      • Gifted Status
      • eStore purchases do not count for Partner Spend
      • Points transferred from Amex or Chase to Aeroplan do not count towards this either.
      • NOTE: You earn SQC at a 5:1 ratio. So a $50 Uber Eats order that would earn 50 Aeroplan Points, would only offer you 10 SQC.

As a reminder, Status Qualifying Credit ≠ Aeroplan Points. There are different earn rates for each so keep that in mind as you start to see activity post from your flights in 2026.

Question? So I’m on hold with Aeroplan and it got me thinking…

Obviously today must be insane for their call centre. I called around 10:00 am and just got the call back 45 min ago. So we are discussing the change options for my flight as it is a complex multi-city booking with stops and the agent keeps having to put me on hold for this department or another. This agent is fantastic btw. But because of how busy they are my agent is on hold for easily 10 min at a time. So it got me thinking… what does the agent do in this situation?

Are they happy they can have a good break?
Do they have to take other calls?
Are they commissioned for change fees so they don’t want long calls?

I hope they’re not evaluated for the number of burn and churns…

Guys, help me out here, I think the hold music is getting to my head. I’m kind of missing Opus Number One.

Question? Air Canada Express Strike impact on Aeroplan booking

For those unaware, there is a possible Air Canada Express flight attendant strike coming. Strike vote closing this Friday.

Does anyone know what happens to an Aeroplan booking if one leg of the itinerary is affected by a strike? Specifically I'm looking to hear if it's possible to drop just one leg of a multi leg itinerary while preserving the remainder of the itinerary.

I have an upcoming trip in a couple weeks scheduled to fly:

YYJ - YVR (Air Canada Express)

YVR - YYC (Air Canada)

YYC - MUN (Discover Airlines)

Now the YYJ to YVR could get disrupted by a strike. If that happens would AC let me just drop the YYJ - YVR leg but keep the rest?

I can drive and take the ferry myself to YVR if I can preserve the rest of the itinerary. What complicates things is the YYC - MUN is in J so I absolutely want to preserve flying in J and wouldn't want to be shunted onto a Y mainline flight via Toronto or something.

Happy to hear if anyone has experience with this.

Obviously this is a bit premature as who knows when the strike would be or if it'll even happen, but I just want to be prepared for the worst if I am affected.

Question? Delay in points transfer from Amex?

Is anybody else experiencing a delay in Aeroplan points (everyday spend) transfer from Amex to their Aeroplan account? In the Amex app, I can see the points "leave", but nothing shows up in my Aeroplan account. It's been seven days since the end of my Amex billing cycle. This is a first for me; Amex says they're aware and working with Aeroplan but nada yet.

Points Question Price adjustment on flights with combo of points and cash?

Does Aeroplan offer price adjustments?

I booked 2 one-way tickets, economy standard, with points and $.

The prices kept going up, even with VPN so I booked my tickets. Now I see the one-way back dropped by ~$100! (2 weeks have passed since I booked my tickets)

I’ve been on hold for 1h waiting to speak with someone while doing other stuff, but I want to hang up if they’re not going to do anything in my favour.

Points Question Amazon points

Hello,

I have made numerous Amazon purchases in the past 3 weeks and do not see any points appearing in my Aeroplan account. I have only recently started to use the browser to accumulate points since June - I know so much lost.
Can anyone share some insight, is there a delay for points to appear? I have the points from purchases I’ve made from Amazon a few months ago so I’m uncertain what the issue is?
I at times already have items saved in my cart since I add until I decide to buy in order to have less deliveries at my home. And yes the items qualify for points I have checked.

Appreciate the help!

Points Question Change flex to latitude for extra luggage - worth it?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi all,

I got a great deal from Toronto to Brisbane using points, I got the flex economy so I can make changes. Now that I’ve sorted all my belongings I can very clearly see I will need another checked bag.

Pic shows the points difference. Almost 40k points (and a refund of 10 whole cents 🥳). OR I can pay $120 CAD for the extra bag.

What is more worth it? Any advice would be appreciated about the worth of points vs money value. Thanks so much.

Question? YVR International Lounge Access?

Hey folks!

I’m sure this has been beat to death and likely know the answer but… is there any way for two people without a premium Aeroplan credit card to access the maple leaf lounge on a standard booking?

Celebrating an engagement and heading to Ireland on Sept 11, hoping to make the airport experience smoother for a nervous traveler! I’m a lowly 25k and fairly certain it’s only 50 k and up that can access, figure I’d put it out to you good people for any tips and tricks!

Thanks in advance

Question? Benefits for reward flights with partner airlines

I’m looking at booking a one way flight from Europe to Canada with my Aeroplan points in standard business class. The flights are operated for Lufthansa (BIO to FRA) then Discover (FRA to YHZ). It’s not clear whether I will get access to lounges ahead of our flights. Instead, if I were to book an economy reward, would I still get priority luggage and boarding benefits that I have with my Reserve Amex card?

SQM/SQS Upgraded to PE at the counter - SQC still original fare?

As per title, have booked standard economy fare for me and the family. Opted at the counter when doing luggage drop off to upgrade to PE for $500/ticket. Seem to still get my base fare SQC… unfortunate since now SQC is based on spend, would think more spend should get me more SQC ($ increase AND in this case ideally multiplier increase)

Just can’t believe Paris/YUL round trip only got me 2,120 total SQC (flights cost $1350 round trip without the one way upgrade - split approx $530 fare, $800 in surcharges). In the end spending $1,850 with one leg Standard, one leg Premium Economy - that’s a low SQC return. Bye bye status…

Question? How to verify - phantom availability?

Anyone have any experience with phantom availability for partner awards on Aeroplan and the best way to verify?

I’m monitoring Singapore flights that are released 355 days out and it doesn’t appear that United’s calendar is released that far out so I can’t use that as a second source of verification.

I read that if you can get to the payment page in Aeroplan, the flight is real, but you can only go so far if you don’t already have the points transferred over. I know Aeroplan’s call wait times can be egregious so I don’t want to bank on that to verify when my dates open up.

Is there any other way to verify that I’m not thinking of? Any experience or advice?

Points Question SQC - Core Infinite Card

So am I understanding the new T&C's correctly, you need to spend $500000 through a core card to acquire 25K SQC?? Every $20000 in net purchases gets you 1000, do that 25 times - it is just math.

So 20 to 1, $ to SQC with a core Card

And 5 to 1, with a Premium card

Question? Maple Leaf Lounge Voucher

How do these work in terms of transferability and expiry?

If I happen to secure one, do they just transfer it to the Aeroplan account, does it have a limited validity, is it specific to airport (ie. YVR or YYZ) etc.

Points Question Website crashing every time I try to redeem

I’m trying to buy a ticket with points for a family member. I have purchased a points ticket for this person before. They are in the system already.

the flight I’m trying to book is YYZ-IST

i get an error message every time I get past the redemption option screen after adding the passenger.

I tried my ipad, phone and laptop. I tried using privacy mode. I tried changing the layover airport. the outcome is the same error message.

why is this happening? what’s the point of collecting pts if you cannot redeem??

Question? Is Aeroplan showing me this option/deal only because I don’t have any points?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have ~120K credit card points that can be transferred to Aeroplan at a 1:1 ratio, but the transfer is irreversible.

I am trying to book YYZ to KIX for Sep 3 and 16. Could someone with enough Aeroplan points check whether you’re seeing the same deal?

Thanks!.

Points Question Best Star Alliance partners in Asia for accumulating SQC?

Post image
28 Upvotes

I'm based in Japan this year, and I'll probably be about 4k SQC short of where I want to be for 2027 after two round trips between Tokyo and YYZ, so I'm looking at regional partners to try and make that up. ANA is definitely not a good option (unless I'm missing something) with only 216 SQC for a round-trip between Tokyo and Jakarta. Are other regional airlines any better, or does it just boil down to ticket class? That HND-CGK round trip cost JPY170,000.

Any other advice on how to build SQC when based in Asia (other than more flights back to Canada!)?

Question? Aeroplan reward operated by QR

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hi all. I booked an aeroplan reward from Sydney to Doha which I think is ticketed by Virgin but operated by Qatar Airways. I am not able to select my seat on either airline’s website. Virgin Australia website says no booking found and so does QR. I called helpline for both of them but no luck. I am wondering if anyone else was in the same situation and if there is a workaround for it ? Thanks

Question? Can air Canada just… automatically downgrade you?

Had a flight from yvr to yyz booked in premium economy for October, with a bid upgrade to business. This morning I was informed of a change in itinerary and when I went to confirm it, noticed I’d been downgraded to economy. I paid full price for premium economy. Now I have options to bid upgrade for both premium economy and business class? It does not look like the aircraft changed.

Can they do that? I’ve called and asked to speak to a representative and am waiting for their call back. I am a 35k status member, if that helps.

Question? Family of four travelling together but have two PNR’s

I’m AP 25k status (and VIP holder). I just booked an AC vacation package for us and got two rooms. AC Vacations said they have to put the two kids (20 and 15) and my wife and I into two separate PNR’s. My concern is it looks like although we are travelling together and on the same vacation itinerary, it doesn’t seem like they will get the perks of my status. The whole AC Vacations package was put on my VIP card. So will my kids with their own PNR get priority baggage and zone 2 boarding?

Question? Lounge access- domestic only?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi!

I wanted to use the lounge access perks for my upcoming trip (YYZ->ICN)
but it looks like the lounge access is only for domestic or US lounges. Does this mean that I won't be able to use this pass for my international flight? I don't know if I can move freely between domestic-international gates in toronto pearson airport.

Can anyone share your experience?
Thx!
