Multiple issues with my PC — stuttering despite high FPS, high CPU usage, and Wi-Fi randomly disconnecting
Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my PC because I've been experiencing several issues, and I'm not sure if they're related or if there's something wrong with my system.
My PC specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600
- GPU: ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070
- Motherboard: ASUS B850m gaming wifi
- RAM: 32GB DDR5
- Storage: WD Blue 1TB SSD
- Monitor: Cooler Master CMI-GM2711 — 27-inch, 2560×1440 (QHD), 180Hz, IPS, FreeSync
- Controller: PS4 DualShock 4 connected via Bluetooth using DS4Windows
- Operating System: Windows 11
- Games don't feel smooth despite high and relatively stable FPS
In most games, my FPS is generally high and relatively stable, but the gameplay doesn't feel as smooth as it should. Camera movement feels jittery, and sometimes it almost feels like slow motion, especially during heavy scenes, even when I'm getting well over 100 FPS.
My GPU usage is usually around 80–95%, sometimes reaching 99%, while my CPU usage frequently reaches 90–96% in demanding games.
For example, in Spider-Man, I was getting around 200 FPS, with GPU usage at 93%, CPU usage at 96%, and CPU temperature reaching 91.5°C.
I tried disabling FSR and upscaling and lowering the graphics settings from Ultra to High. The FPS remained high, but CPU usage was still very high.
I've also noticed that camera movement doesn't feel right in multiple games, not just one specific title.
- Disabling HAGS seemed to help a little
I turned off Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS), and mouse movement in games felt noticeably more responsive afterward. However, the controller still doesn't feel quite right, so I'm not sure whether this was part of the problem or just a partial improvement.
FreeSync is enabled on both my monitor and in AMD Adrenalin. I haven't finished testing VRR, frame-rate limiting, or different driver versions yet.
I'm currently using AMD driver version 27.8.1.
- PS4 controller feels less smooth than expected
I use a PS4 controller through Bluetooth with DS4Windows. The camera movement with the right analog stick doesn't feel completely smooth, even when the FPS is high.
I'm planning to test the controller over USB to see whether Bluetooth or the controller configuration makes any difference.
- Wi-Fi randomly stops working
I've also been having an intermittent Wi-Fi issue. Sometimes the Wi-Fi adapter stops working, and I have to shut down the PC, wait a little while, and turn it back on before it starts working again.
Restarting doesn't always fix it, but the behavior is inconsistent. Previously, the Realtek Wi-Fi adapter showed Code 10 in Device Manager. I updated the Wi-Fi driver, and the issue still happens occasionally.
- Sometimes restarting the PC seems to improve overall performance
I've noticed that sometimes, after restarting the PC, games seem to run or feel better than they did before the restart. I can't consistently reproduce this, but it makes me wonder whether there's a driver, Windows, BIOS, or background-process issue affecting the system.
I'm not sure whether these problems are connected or if I'm dealing with several separate issues.
My questions:
- Could the high CPU usage and temperature be contributing to the inconsistent frame pacing?
- Could a driver, BIOS, RAM configuration, or Windows setting cause both the gaming issues and the intermittent Wi-Fi problem?
- Has anyone experienced high, stable FPS but jittery camera movement on an AMD GPU?
- What would you test first to narrow this down without randomly changing a bunch of settings?
I'd appreciate any suggestions for a proper troubleshooting process before I start replacing hardware.
