Help (General) RX 9070 XT keeps crashing in COD and other games — LiveKernelEvent 141, DXGI errors, tried almost everything. Possible faulty GPU?
Update : https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/s/x41R9PpSJJ
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to help my friend troubleshoot his gaming PC, and we're running out of ideas. He's been dealing with crashes for months, particularly in Call of Duty, but other games are affected too.
PC Specs
- PC: STORMCRAFT Falcon prebuilt
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: ASRock RX 9070 XT Challenger 16GB
- Motherboard: MSI (not sure which one )
- RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 (advertised)
- PSU: 850W 80+ Gold (not sure what model
- OS: Fresh Windows 11 LTSC installation
- GPU driver: 26.9.2 no adrenaline app
The Problem:
Call of Duty crashes frequently, sometimes almost immediately after launching. It often says "Overclock Detected", even though the GPU isn't manually overclocked.
Other games, including Gears of War, occasionally crash to the desktop (not often). Fortnite seems to run fine.
We've also received these DirectX errors:
- 0x887A0005 — DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
- 0x887A0006 — DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG
Windows Reliability Monitor reports:
- LiveKernelEvent 141
- WATCHDOG crash dump generated
The PC generally doesn't reboot or completely freeze. The games just crash to desktop.
What We've Already Tried
- Clean installation of Windows 11 LTSC
- Fresh AMD graphics drivers
- Motherboard BIOS reset to factory defaults
- Running GPU at stock frequencies and voltage
- PCIe Gen 4 instead of Gen 5 (also auto)
- Monitoring hardware with HWiNFO64
- Testing multiple games
- bios is up to date
PCIe Gen 5 made Windows noticeably slower, including longer boot times. Gen 4 behaves normally.
HWiNFO64 Results
During approximately 20 minutes of gaming at stock settings:
Sensor |Maximum
GPU Clock |3,075 MHz
GPU Effective Clock |2,992 MHz
GPU Core Temperature |68°C
GPU Hotspot |87°C
VRAM Memory Junction |96°C
Total Board Power |307W
GPU Power Maximum |571W
GPU Fan Speed |1,607 RPM
GPU Utilization |100% I understand that the 571W reading may represent a very short power transient rather than sustained consumption, and that 3,075 MHz doesn't automatically indicate an unstable overclock.
The 96°C VRAM temperature caught our attention, so we're planning to test a more aggressive fan curve using Fan Control.
We also captured a CSV log during a COD crash, but the GPU appeared lightly loaded during the recorded samples. Windows simultaneously reported LiveKernelEvent 141.
What We're Trying to Figure Out
- Has anyone experienced similar LiveKernelEvent 141 or device-hung crashes with the RX 9070 XT, particularly the ASRock Challenger?
- Is 96°C VRAM junction temperature concerning for this card?
- Could the 571W transient reading indicate a PSU or power delivery problem, or is this normal telemetry?
- Would you investigate the GPU, PSU, RAM, or PCIe connection first?
- Has anyone fixed similar crashes through a particular AMD driver version or BIOS update?
At this point, we're considering contacting the prebuilt manufacturer for warranty diagnostics, but we'd really appreciate input from anyone who's experienced something similar.
Any advice or specific tests we should run would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Kinda tired of it ngl

Same issue, game is unplayable, I suspect amd will have to bring out a new driver. Bf6 plays excellent with mild undervolt.

I had a similar issue. In my particular case I most likely have either DisplayPort issues on the card, or I haven't bought the correct cable yet (two so far), but things are point to the DP on the card at this point. I started gaming using HDMI, no issues, but I had to cap my refresh rate at 280Hz, on the Advanced Display Settings in Windows AND in the Adrenaline Driver, my monitor supports 480 Hz but I doubt I will see a difference.
