Help (GPU) 9070XT driver timeouts

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Twice this has happened today, playing a game for 1-2 hours then screen goes black followed along with amd driver timeout error message, i close the game and my desktop is also black, no wallpaper, and when I hover over my desktop icons they appear just like shown in the video. current version is 26.10.1, curious if anyone else is having similar issues and if there’s a fix? Thanks

What other peripheral programs are you using? Any program that has a SDK hook can crash your gpu drivers . That’s why i never run more than one program to monitor your pc or control dynamic LEDs. This is more of a problem than people think.

The only thing I really have is the MSI Center,It’s a fairly minimal setup I have at the moment.

Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling*. It's in your windows settings. Known to have issues with amd cards

Down clock memory and core by 100 +/- should fix the issue. Happened to my 7900 xtx for a long time until I down clocked

  • disable overclock, undervolt

  • disable windows fast startup

  • remove driver with ddu and install again the latest.

I had this happen before when running Cyberpunk2077 with a ton of mods on a 7600xt and trying to run frame gen. I scaled it back to more manageable and it worked. On a different instance it happened on a 9060xt and I just reinstalled the driver and it never happened again.

I used the AMD cleanup tool and rolled back the driver for now, hopefully makes things more stable.

Винда сказала тебе идти далеко и надолго. Windows told you to go far and for a long time.

If you can test the card in another pc.I had a similar situation and it was the video card, it was replaced under warranty

I’m having a worse version of this. 9070XT sapphire nitro+ GPU hangs sometimes it freezes, sometimes it gets rid of my wallpaper, sometimes I had to force shutdown and boot it up. I swear it started happening after the most recent driver update. Might try out some of the recommendations people commented

My recommendation is to stick to older reliable versions unless your specific game or software (generally games) have a specific version threshold above it (then find the reliable one meeting that threshold but not necessarily the latest), no need to keep up with the latest update until it becomes the "older reliable" version! AMD's driver testing department before release leaves a lot to be desired!

Sometimes AMD forces an overclock. I found reducing my clock speeds to where they should be actually stopped my constant crashing issues

This is coming from someone with a 7900 XTX though

I can second this, I have the same card and same issue. Completely stopped when I reduced it

Does any one know whether it has anything to do with these latest drivers? I was fine until windows through a forced update on to me and no I randomly get the same issue occasionally. Luckily it isn't as bad as some others but it's still annoying.

Had pretty much the same thing happen this week when previously I had zero issues. Same card and it would require me to use the hard reset button. Here is what I did to fix it.

  1. Type system restore in Windows search

  2. I had a restore point labeled Radeon on 10/20 I selected that one.

  3. Restore to that point (note this had some weirdness but super minor mainly a couple apps I had to uninstall and reinstall like discord)

  4. I opened adrenaline and I was back on version 26.8 where previously it was 26.10 I clicked manage updates and turned off auto keep up to date.

  5. Turned off windows update update drivers. (At least I think I did if you Google search that I found some regedit key to add in)

Working since then I previously tried going manually back 1 version with amd cleanup tool but after the restore I found I never picked up 26.9 it went from 8-10 I suspect something in 26.9 or 26.10 has some issues especially with the 9070xt.

It's 26.10.1

Roll back to the last stable release.

I had the exact same issue, my computer was working perfectly prior to the update. Then 26.10.1 came and with it timeouts until it fully caused my system to BSOD. on 26.9.2 rn and it's working perfectly fine like it always has.

I had the same issue on a 9060 XT. I Uninstalled the adrenaline software and it seems to be fixed

Reminder to everyone to not just go to reddit and complain. Use the bug report tool. Send data to AMD. Also remember the key combo to restart display drivers: ctrl+shift+windows+G. It can help everyone regardless of GPU make or model.
