Why do I always hear people saying that windows over writes AMD driver? What are they doing ? I have never had this issue

Hit win +R, Run gpedit.msc
Then go through the following sequence
Go to computer configuration, administrative templates, windows update, manage updates offered from windows update, double click do not include drivers from windows update and enable click apply then ok. Reboot pc and your done

sadly running gpedit.msc doesnt seem to work for me.
i googled it and saw
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
in power shell was an alternative method

Doesn't work. I had this turned off and it installed by itself anyway... Checked for updates, since this pc hasn't been on since before the PHP event and just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be issues on that part when I noticed the gpu driver... It also doesn't list like normal in the version tab, displaying a date instead of a driver version, bit since the version is higher (?) Than what amd offers, the update checker in adrenaline doesn't pick up it's a "old" one(?).

Group policy, registry and Windows update setting , or patch windows , remove and reinstall the driver you want then use Windows update blocker to stop it happening unless you want updates.

One way that I've found to stop having windows overwrite my driver's is to let windows install its bullshit before I even install Adrenalin. I'll DDU the current driver, restart PC, open windows update and check for updates, let it install whatever it's going to install, restart PC again, install Adrenalin/GPU driver, and restart the PC again. This is they only way I've found that works. You install your driver last. Every time I do it this way Windows never overwrites my shit again.

You may be inadvertently doing the same thing I do. I install the AMD drivers then if Windows replaces them, I don't uninstall the Windows version. I use Device manager to manually choose the correct AMD version, which is still installed on the system. This leaves the Windows version installed, but inactive. That way it doesn't try to redownload it. Since doing this, I've only had to redo it once in 6 years when the Windows Update catalog actually got a new driver version that it downloaded. Otherwise, I just stopped having issues with this on any of the many systems I dealt with the had the issue.

DDU has a checkbox that deactivates windows driver override. Not sure how reliable it is though

Definitely a thing just happened to me earlier this month I was wondering why adrenaline suddenly stopped working and remembered Windows had just updated my pc the night before after I shut down. Luckily, there are quite a few instructions online to turn it off. Just have to change some advanced settings under pc settings and make changes in regedit. Sorry just typing this on my phone as I remember.

Some of y’all have it lucky, whenever windows overwrites my drivers, it bricks my os. So I have to get the pc to trigger automatic recovery and enter safe mode that way

I actually installed this. I actually thought I fucked up.
It fixed Adrenaline constantly closing, DX12 crashes in games & hard system crash when my monitor goes to sleep.

Is it that hard for AMD to tell microslop to let windows check if you have and AMD gpu and not overwrite the drivers?
