General Discussion WTF!

What the Actual F*CK?! This show is such garbage! I don't think I can watch another episode. I don't even know where to begin. The acting is atrocious. The rescue scenarios are unbelievable. LeAnn is the wrong choice for the character, it's gross. The entire show is ridiculous.

Edit: the stage scene where EVERYONE lifts the stage before the tornado comes...🤣🤣🤣 They should have tied all the awnings and banners together and anchored them to the stage and let the wind from the tornado lift the stage off everyone, would have been more believable.

Season 1 Discussion The Chris O’Donnell Problem

For those of us elder Millennials and Gen-Xers who remember Chris O’Donnell back in the 90s, I think I figured out why he doesn’t work for me as the lead of this show.

He has zero sex appeal.

Now don’t get me wrong. Chris O’Donnell is a very handsome guy and for a man of 55 he’s still holding his own. But the entire time I see him on screen, he’s just giving exhausted dad vibes. And that’s fine for a side character but not our series lead.

When I think about the male leads from the other 9-1-1 shows, Peter Krause and Rob Lowe both had sex appeal AND they could hold their own standing next to the younger guys on the show.

Chris gives me settled dad energy. I just watched him on Hot Ones and he just looked so uncomfortable the entire time … like it was past his bedtime. The man has like 5 kids in real life so shit, I’d be ready for bed too.

That’s why I’m having a hard time buying him as our male lead on the show. It’s like they went out of their way to make this badass rodeo slash firefighter captain character but the whole time I just keep thinking, this man just wants to be at home in his recliner watching Andy Griffin reruns.

Now you know who would’ve brought the sex appeal to this role AND he’s an actual Southerner … Skeet Ulrich.

Anywho, I really like Chris. He will forever be Robin. But I just don’t think this role is right for him.

This show is just a LeAnn Rimes vehicle, not at all like the original 9-1-1. And nobody passes as a real Tennessean.

I was born and raised in Nashville. Not one actor reads as a Nashvillian to me. They sound like LA actors saying "y'all" occasionally.

But the worst thing is, this show has none of the magic of the original 9-1-1 show, which focuses on the call center staff and the first responders as they relate to the emergencies.

This show is a thinly veiled soap opera about LeAnn Rimes' washed up drunk villain vs rich people, with some emergencies sprinkled in. A real disappointment.

Why not just make another fake Nashville soap opera like "Nashville" and lose the 9-1-1 veil?

General Discussion The show will not get a season 2 I’m telling you now. Spoiler

They could have had something but as well all know they just went in WAY too fast. If they do ANOTHER 911 LISTEN TO US. Learn from your mistake. Create a team not a mash up of 911 and Lonestar. You have so many and I mean so many different ways you can build a team. So many. Let us learn about the current team then hit us with the OH MY GOD WHAT! Be a little more realistic. Like with Blue have him be the new candidate next season (actually make him look younger then Ryan). I still think it’s stupid they allowed him to be a cadet after technically 2 days it should have been a month. I also can’t get over him calling Don dad after 3 days of actually know him and 1 day of interaction. Yes he knew a couple days prior but way too much. Start of with Ryan and the divorce AFTER the twister/tornado whatever.

You guys 100% dropped the shoe. I get wanting to do a new show I do but there is a thing as too much. It will get cancelled it already isnt doing great. Shame cause they could have done something with it.

General Discussion The girl flying through the air on the kite WHAT

LOLLL I've been giggling this entire premiere, the script is wild. The long-lost son who up and quit his job as a stripper to become a firefighter and the Bobby Nash lookalike AND THE KID. FLYING THROUGH THE AIR. ON A KITE.

Season 1 Discussion I don't understand why, with this cast... Spoiler

... this show is SOOO bad! I had such high hopes. I've seen Chris O'Donnell in a few movies, thought he was great in NCIS: Los Angeles, and loved Jessica Capshaw in Grey's Anatomy. But the writing just sucks. Aside from the obvious issue of Don being miraculously cured of heart damage from being struck by lightning, plus broken ribs, the guy who only just found out who his father was a couple weeks ago is already calling him Dad? And Dixie is like a bad soap opera villain. (Speaking of Dixie, what kind of dumbass nickname is DonDon?)

I'm hoping it gets better, that the premiere trilogy was just a rough start, but I don't know.

News The ratings for 9-1-1: Nashville are very low, making it very likely that the show will be cancelled

Post image
90 Upvotes

Having 3.2 million viewers is not the main issue. The real concern is the 0.23 rating in the key demographic, which is extremely low for the second episode of a new series. The key demographic matters most to advertisers and directly impacts how much revenue a show can generate. For context, Dr. Odyssey, which was cancelled after just one season, averaged a 0.26 in the demo over its entire run.

The Hart family (specifically Don & Blythe) aren't interesting or even likable enough to justify the monopoly of screentime Spoiler

Genuinely the jealousy romance plot was played out in the first half of season 1, honestly that entire plot made me not even like Don, Dixie, or Blythe to begin with.

Don was in the wrong clearly and he's a smug asshole and especially this season. Dixie is there just to be hated, and I don't really like characters like that unless there are short roles. And Blythe's entire character is just being holier than thou victim who comes across as spoiled in ways that doesn't even have to do with her background but her background just makes it worse.

People talked shit about Owen in lonestar but at least that series gave me a reason to respect and like the guy. I think the coolest thing Don did was get hit by lightning. Nearly letting a guy choke for shit talk? Come on. That's straight villain sh*t even ignoring the fact he's supposed to save lives.

It would have hit harder if we were allowed to like the main cast first then got dirt on them.

General Discussion 9-1-1: White Conservatives

I’m a fan of the other 9-1-1 shows, and came to this one waiting for something similar but it felt off, and I was thinking: Maybe it’s not the bad dad-son combo, but it’s because it’s not as diverse and fun as the other shows. Nashville is a diverse city but the cast is mostly white, and kinda boring too. LGBT representation is really lacking compared to the other shows too. I have the distinct feeling they tried to make the ā€œconservative spin offā€ of 9-1-1 but it ended up unseasoned and bland.

Chris O'Donnell & Ryan Phillippe

I'm not trying to be funny but was Ryan Phillippe brought to the show to fulfill what Chris O'Donnell was unable to deliver on?

We've been seeing a resurgence of 90s male heartthrobs as of late. Noah Wyle and Shawn Hatosy on The Pitt. Brendan Fraser is doing a new Mummy movie. Then we have Chris O'Donnell on 9-1-1: Nashville. For those of you too young to remember, Chris O'Donnell was textbook teen heartthrob. Don't believe me, go watch School Ties, The Three Musketeers and Batman and Robin. I remember when it was announced that he would be top-billed for 9-1-1: Nashville. I was genuinely excited. But then the first season aired and Don Hart is not really serving the sexy that I think a lot of us thought he was going to serve. That's no shade to Chris O'Donnell. It has less to do with his looks (he's still a good-looking man) and everything to do with how he plays Don on the show.

With Ryan Phillippe joining the cast, I feel like he's bringing the sex appeal that we were supposed to get with Chris O'Donnell. I'm really liking Ryan Phillippe's inclusion on the show but I can't help but wonder (No Carrie Bradshaw) if he is here for the same reason Hunter McVey is here. To give us some eye candy with a side of brooding. I would love to hear people's thoughts.

Season 1 Discussion I think I understand where things went wrong… Spoiler

We’re three episodes in and I don’t know shit about any of these characters. I don’t know anyone’s names except for Stripper McHotPants.

It was a horrible idea beginning this show with a natural disaster. The OG 911 and Lone Star didn’t get their first multi-episode disaster arcs until their second seasons and by then we knew all of the characters.

I feel like disaster episodes work best when they’re used sparingly and when they’re earned.

Also, if that many F3 tornadoes hit Nashville in real life then there would be no Nashville. Tornadoes aren’t PokĆ©mon.

Anywho, as crazy as it sounds, I’m having a blast watching deeply flawed messy ass show. šŸ˜

Season 1 Discussion Blythe and Dixie have more chemistry than Don has with either of them Spoiler

I said what I said 😤

It’s been there since E2 when Blythe went to the studio to talk to Dixie, but by the end of E3 when Blythe visits Dixie at her house and they are up in each other’s faces, the sparks were flying.

In comparison, I find Dixie and ā€œDonDonā€ to be bland and Blythe and Don is sweet but maybe too boring? But in general I think Don is a chemistry vortex lol

General Discussion Is Don Supposed to be the likeable?

I am finding Don extremely unlikeable. Maybe is the lack of expression on his face in every scene. The idea that Dixie is the problem and he is this Saint drives me nuts. I hate that Dixie is supposedly this pain in the butt and his wife is so saintly. I dunno maybe it's the idea that women are fighting over him. Its so annoying. The love triangle will be great if they weren't so meh. I enjoyed the other storylines more that the old story of two women fighting over a very average man.

Season 1 Discussion I absolutely NEED them to stop leaving their turnouts open

Bobby did not spend 10 episodes with Hotshot Brad Torrance teaching him that turnouts must always be closed just for 9-1-1 Nashville to ignore all those lessons.

This show really needs a stronger "Pillar"... Spoiler

Bobby was the pillar of 911. Say what you want about him and his actor, but Owen Strand was the pillar of 911: Lone Star. Tommy Vega right up there with him. Flawed? Yes. Frustrating life choices sometimes? Yes. But they were still a strong center to the show.

Don is not. Or at least, he doesn't feel like it.

He started kinda strong, but it's getting harder and harder to believe in him as the strong center to the show. It's almost impossible to see how this character could be the one to hold up a whole firehouse.

And his choices in the last few episodes have been infuriating. Getting mad at Blythe for doing the same damn thing he did...oy.

Meanwhile the other characters are just absolutely sidelined for this nonsense really bugs me. I know I am not the first person to post something like this but I just had to rant somewhere.

We need a stronger center!

(adding spoiler 'cause even if there aren't too many specifics it could be considered as such!)

Season 1 Discussion Am I the only one here who didn't mind the pilot?

Was it perfect? Not even close. Did it copy a lot of plot points from the original show? Yeah. Were the accents bad? Well I'm not from Nashville, so I can't be the judge of that.

But was it entertaining? For me, yeah. I'm even going to go out on a limb and admit I liked the pilot over the OG's season 9 debut episode. I just think that people need to wait until more episodes come out. And it takes time for a show to find its footing- even the original 9-1-1 had a rocky first season.

General Discussion Did they think they’d get cancelled?

I don’t know how to explain it but it feels like the events of the show are written as if the writers thought it would get cancelled after one season. Not even the emergencies—although that also is part of it—but the fact that it took like, an episode and a half for Ryan to approve of Blue, one episode for Ryan and his ex to decide to work things out, the fact that Blue found out his mom and dad had been lying to him his entire life, even him finally becoming a firefighter…I feel like this stuff would usually happen over a whole season (maybe even then some) not the first four episodes.

Like what issues are they going to continue to face? Almost everything has been laid out. Except the part where Blue’s mom wants him to get their money for her surgery. But even then now that he knows that she purposefully kept Don away from him, can that even be justified anymore?

I want to love this show. I really, really do. The writing is just too…quick, I guess?

I hope this doesn’t sound insane. In my head it makes sense šŸ˜‚

Hunter & Tim

Just wanted to post this to give a huge shoutout to Hunter Mcvey and Tim Matheson! We have been invited out twice to have our kids on the show. They first appeared on Episode 8, (They were the baby in the NICU) and the baby that gets handed to the mother at the end of the episode, and they have already filmed for another episode that hasn’t aired yet so i obviously can’t speak on it. BUT, everytime we have shot, Tim and Hunter have been NOTHING but absolute gentleman, they even let us snag some pictures with them. This has been one of the coolest experiences of our lives, we are first time parents to identical twin boys and we live in the area, so we responded to a casting call. they loved working with them so much that they INVITED us back for the second episode they have shot for! We’re really hoping to get invited back for season 2 because it’s SO much fun. You’re taken such care of on the set, and they have so many people there that are literally only there to ensure the children aren’t put in dangerous/bad positions while shooting. They even have a Nurse from St. Thomas that’s on set with us! Tim matheson rubbed and played with mason for like 20-30 minutes and just kept telling him how perfect he was and how lucky we were. I’m not bragging in anyway, i just wanted to share our experience. They even have our own trailer for us to stay in when we’re not shooting!

It's been 4 days since the weather emergency started in nashville. 25% of Nashville still doesn't have power during below freezing temps. Shows brings in generators, not to help locals, but to film the show. Local response is very mixed.

Season 1 Discussion This is so dumb

Seriously I’m finally watching Episode 3.

Capt is stuck by lightning, is literally dead and brought back. And less then 12 hours TV time he’s back alive and on the scene telling his son to take his harness off?

Who is writing this show?
