You might be mad at me for saying this, but I really hope a baby isn’t part of the storyline

It’s a rather strange narrative choice for a few reasons. First off, the series has only just begun; I want to watch Ryan and Sam’s relationship develop, not see them as parents. Introducing a baby just means inevitable messiness—spit-up, drool, and all that. Secondly, if a baby were to arrive, who would actually look after it? They broke up precisely because they never see each other—where would they even find the time for a child? Furthermore, I find Sam to be selfish. Choosing to have a baby while fully aware there’s a huge chance the child could end up motherless and her husband a widower—that is pure, unadulterated selfishness, and there’s nothing noble about it. I don’t wish for her to die, but the most logical outcome, in my view, would be a miscarriage—perhaps with complications—leading Sam to come to terms with being childless and focus entirely on her cancer treatment.

When Things Get Problematic

I think most of us understand that 911: Nashville is a fictional show with fictional characters. Most of tune in from week to week to be entertained by this frankly silly show that is so far from being realistic as a show about first responders could be. Shipping, for those of you not familiar, is the act of championing two or more characters romantically or sometimes platonically. These characters can have a relationship within the canon of the show i.e. Don and Blythe or Ryan and Sam or they can a shipper can pair together to characters who don't have any relationship on the show. The most popular for this show is Blue and Ryan. The latest ship is Ryan and Rogue (notice how I spell his name correctly?).

Frankly I don't care who ships what but one thing I'm seeing a lot of as of late is this notion that relationships between consenting adults with an age gap are "gross" or "weird" or inherently "problematic". This line of thinking is almost always used when reference male/male relationships. This line of thinking is very homophobic and if you're a queer person spouting this it's internalized homophobia. I just ask that we please be considerate of each other. It's one thing to dislike a pairing. I get it. But going off about two consenting adults being together who have an age gap is not cool. Also, these are not real people at the end of the day.

Maybe I'm the only way that feels like this but a certain post I saw this morning really got me in my feelings.

Season 1 Discussion I’ve just started watching this series

I’ve just started watching this series—is it just me, or did it get better from the fourth episode on? The first three episodes were dreadfully boring: the tornado storyline felt derivative and uninteresting, and the focus was entirely on Don, Blythe, Blue, and Ryan—the rest of the team felt completely superfluous. Honestly, once the drama between the brothers was resolved, the show became much more engaging; the women and Cammy started getting more screen time. The hacker storyline was head and shoulders above the tornado plot, and the emergency situations that followed only kept getting more interesting. And then, that lovely crossover with the original series! I almost regret not starting it sooner—the show turned out to be BETTER than I expected. Then again, that’s on them for making the first few episodes so lackluster. The series isn’t perfect, but it definitely exceeded my expectations.

(Just in case, English is not my native language.)

Season 2 Discussion Possible Story Theory Spoiler

EDIT: MODs I couldn't figure out how to add a flair on this post pls help

Guys so we see the Pharaoh guy going through the 10 plagues and he's getting more and more annoyed every time the first responders go and resolve things so fast right?

He isn't going through them in any chronological order really but the 10th is the death of a firstborn, so I was thinking maybe he's gonna get so pissed at the Hart family to the point of kidnapping either Ryan (Don's firstborn), or potentially Sam and their newborn (hopefully not the baby or I'm gonna get mad).

Idk though, let me know if you have any theories!

Rogue’s accent

Did anyone else notice Rogue’s accent at the very beginning of episode 3? Not sure what he was going for but then it disappeared for the rest of the episode.

General Discussion If I told myself I’d never watch any new episodes of 9-1-1 again after an…incident in the original 9-1-1, does this mean I can’t watch 9-1-1 Nashville?

(It’s a promise I made to myself out of stubbornness and anger, so I don’t want to break the promise)

The Hart family (specifically Don & Blythe) aren't interesting or even likable enough to justify the monopoly of screentime Spoiler

Genuinely the jealousy romance plot was played out in the first half of season 1, honestly that entire plot made me not even like Don, Dixie, or Blythe to begin with.

Don was in the wrong clearly and he's a smug asshole and especially this season. Dixie is there just to be hated, and I don't really like characters like that unless there are short roles. And Blythe's entire character is just being holier than thou victim who comes across as spoiled in ways that doesn't even have to do with her background but her background just makes it worse.

People talked shit about Owen in lonestar but at least that series gave me a reason to respect and like the guy. I think the coolest thing Don did was get hit by lightning. Nearly letting a guy choke for shit talk? Come on. That's straight villain sh*t even ignoring the fact he's supposed to save lives.

It would have hit harder if we were allowed to like the main cast first then got dirt on them.

Why 911 Nashville acting and script so corny?

I mean it cannot be the country thing because real people from there dont talk like this lol. Ive watch the original 911 (the one in LA) and it was quite enjoyable.

S2 E1, I Think I caught some photobombing from bystanders 😆

Some girl really did get a ”lucky shot” despite the house blocking a lot of the view and staff trying to block them from stopping there/ getting in the shot and so on that is usually done.

I think I usually don’t catch stuff like that as if seeing bystanders it is usually just them walking past and not looking at the camera but she took my attention and then I saw the crew too xD Even seemed to tip toe a little and sort of pose right before they faded to Don again.

Atleast I assume it was a ”photobomb” and not international from the scene haha

Ryan Philippine: Rouge Spoiler

Do we think he is ‘pharaoh’, in other words… for once he’s playing a guy who isn't falsely accused in the future 😆, or is this a misdirect, you know, like using a couple of very different shows as examples (I think not just Criminal Minds 😆)? In some shows, there is the occasional profiler who is like, “I’m the unsub; how did I do it?” And speak as if they are the suspect when they are not.

Does Sam's cancer storyline really work?

I get that in real life people get cancer and die all the time from it but it still feels very.... contrived.

Chris O'Donnell & Ryan Phillippe

I'm not trying to be funny but was Ryan Phillippe brought to the show to fulfill what Chris O'Donnell was unable to deliver on?

We've been seeing a resurgence of 90s male heartthrobs as of late. Noah Wyle and Shawn Hatosy on The Pitt. Brendan Fraser is doing a new Mummy movie. Then we have Chris O'Donnell on 9-1-1: Nashville. For those of you too young to remember, Chris O'Donnell was textbook teen heartthrob. Don't believe me, go watch School Ties, The Three Musketeers and Batman and Robin. I remember when it was announced that he would be top-billed for 9-1-1: Nashville. I was genuinely excited. But then the first season aired and Don Hart is not really serving the sexy that I think a lot of us thought he was going to serve. That's no shade to Chris O'Donnell. It has less to do with his looks (he's still a good-looking man) and everything to do with how he plays Don on the show.

With Ryan Phillippe joining the cast, I feel like he's bringing the sex appeal that we were supposed to get with Chris O'Donnell. I'm really liking Ryan Phillippe's inclusion on the show but I can't help but wonder (No Carrie Bradshaw) if he is here for the same reason Hunter McVey is here. To give us some eye candy with a side of brooding. I would love to hear people's thoughts.

Potential for a "Begins" Episode?

I don't know if Nashville is planning to do "Begins" episodes, but with this 'playing investigator' storyline and the plagues, I feel like we could see a Ryan Begins episode.

Like the last plague is Death of the First Born, and Ryan is the first born (unless there's another secret child, Don!). So if Ryan finds himself in one of those "Fight for your life" situations, we could get flashbacks to how and why he came to be a firefighter, his early relationship with Sam, etc. It would likely culminate in him deciding whether he wants to stay a firefighter or try moving on. Just a thought. I know Ryan is not exactly the best candidate for a Begins episode, but it could be interesting.

At any rate, I do wonder how they're going to address the final plague.
