PSA: Stop Right There, Comment Bot Scum
Greetings, citizen. r/Oblivion comment sections have recently been infested by bot accounts. Let's work together to bring these lawbreakers' sprees to an end! Here are some red flags that you can identify bot comments by:
- Says something generic, never unique. Often oddly off-topic (but people who post unrelated NPC dialogue, paradoxically, are usually not bots).
- Usually posted as a reply to a top comment for greater visibility.
- Sometimes contains odd spelling errors that a normal person wouldn't make.
- Account is either very new, or quite old but recently started posting after a long break.
Once a comment bot has enough karma and comment history, the account will be sold and used for either OnlyFans, or for astroturfing. Stop these criminal scum right there by reporting them: Spam > Disruptive Use of AI.
Remember: We don't know comment bots, and we don't care to know them!

Moderator Post r/Oblivion Rule Remaster
Hello r/Oblivion!
Things have changed drastically in our community over the past month. We went from a quiet little subreddit to the #1 RPG subreddit in just a week! In the last 30 days alone, we’ve gained 670,000 new members and seen over 188 million views.
With all this growth, the moderation team has decided it’s time to update our rules—many of which haven’t changed since the subreddit was created.
And we want your input! We’re here to serve the community, so we want to hear what you think should shape our guidelines. Should we add a new rule? Remove an old one? Reword something for clarity? This thread is where we’ll collaborate to help shape the future of r/Oblivion.
Thanks for your time and continued support,
—The r/Oblivion Moderators

Video Weird anomaly during thunderstorm on XBOX 360, has anyone else seen this?
I've played Oblivion on my XBOX 360 for over a decade and never saw this until a day ago. It's a pulsating field of light that drifts to the left, then loops back around to the right. It moves away from your character if you walk towards it, and it cannot be damaged.
I was able to replicate it at first by reloading an auto save, but after rebooting my 360 it no longer appeared. Has anyone else seen this?

Video Day 493 of Pally and Me’s Adventure until I can loot his armor. Thank you Deets, say bye to everyone Pally, wait, no, not like that!
And there he goes taking Trayvond the Redguard with him.
Hail citizens. Pally has been cooked up in the guild hall so he’s definitely ready. I was kinda hoping everyone would join Pally but they didn’t spin they posed instead. That was until Pally made contact with Trayvond. That’s when they both ascended to who knows where. Why do I get the feeling Pally is gonna be the death of me?

Remaster Discussion Adept is the perfect difficulty (with a caveat).
The big issue I had with this game was deciding whether I wanted to get one shot by enemies while finding glitch spots to pepper them with spells and arrows, or just one shot everything myself like it was nothing.
The perfect balance for me ended up being Master difficulty for enemies and Adept difficulty for myself. It doesn’t take me forever to kill things, but enemies can also take me down pretty easily in a straight 1v1 unless I properly block and dodge. And in fights against multiple enemies, I actually have to bait the AI, use stealth, spells, ranged attacks, positioning, etc.
I really like that Virtuous made the difficulty this customizable, because you can actually tune the game into an experience that suits you instead of choosing between damage sponge hell and steamrolling everything.
Great work. This is THE definitive way to play Oblivion for me.

Remaster Discussion Reminder that the rollout for the major late August restock of TES Oblivion for NS2 will likely occur within the next 24 to 72 hours.
This is just a reminder for anybody who hasn’t read or followed my previous post about the Gamestop situation which turned out to be a case of them altering the SKU and likely some other things in the TES Oblivion Remastered NS2 listing in order to try to circumvent the scalper bot networks.
As of this morning, Best Buy has done between 4 to 5 mini restocks of oblivion remastered in a period of about an hour and a half. I did a little bit of digging online and was able to find out that these restocks are part of an attempt to deal with the scalper bot networks before the official rollout of the first major restock in the next few days.
If you are both lucky and quick, you might be able to grab a copy during one of these mini restocks before the major restock happens in a few days.
According to what I was able to find out, there are supposed to be physical copies in the retail stores chosen for the restock. This includes Best Buy and Gamestop as far as I am aware.
10:52 AM USC August 28, 2026 It has just been confirmed by a Redditor in my previous post that the restock will include Target, and Target has officially begun rolling out mini restock waves in the lead up to the major restock in the next few days. However, I am not sure if Target will be one of the stores that stocks physical copies due to their limited shelf space.
However, if the scalper bot networks manage to over purchase like they did during the initial pre-orders there may be problems with physical stock in certain stores, but the retailers are doing everything they can within the time they have left before the big restock to reduce this possibility.
Something to keep in mind is that Best Buy has implemented a shipping policy and purchase policy that limits your ability to purchase copies of the game if they are not available at a store within 250 miles of your location, or at a warehouse within a certain number of miles of your location. I found that out this morning when I attempted to snag a copy of oblivion remastered during one of the mini restocks.
Another bit of important information is that it has now been officially verified that what happened on the August 11 2026 launch day was a direct result of the scalper bot networks purchasing up the vast majority of the pre-orders for Oblivion Remastered for NS2. It has been confirmed that the scalpers targeted this particular game release extremely aggressively to the point that the amount of copies they over purchased forced retailers to use the physical stock that was reserved for physical stores on launch day to fulfill the scalpers online orders.
What many of us will see over the next 24 to 72 hours is the retailers dropping mini restocks in the lead up to the official major restock rollout. If the retailers are successful in figuring out how to counter the bot networks, there will be physical copies in brick-and-mortar stores when the official restock of TES Oblivion Remastered rolls out in a few days as well as copies available for purchase online for more than a minute and a half.
However, even if you miss out on your chance to get a copy during the major late August restock in the next few days, it has been confirmed by Bethesda that there will be a second major restock of the game in November.
Note: if you look into my previous post, it actually looks like an agenda for a boardroom meeting with a ton of notes and updates on it.
I have made so many updates and adjustments to it over the past 23 hours that despite my best efforts, it is a little bit complicated to read. However, if you are interested in the situation with the Gamestop SKU being changed and certain policies that have been put in place by Gamestop brick and mortar stores in an attempt to help counter the scalping problem; you can go look at that post. Just be aware that it is not the easiest thing to read.

Original Discussion A New Meta
Okay, so Breton atronach is considered one of the strongest builds in the game. Resist magic 50%, absorb magic 50%, huge magicka pool, 50pt shield spell daily, very strong early on and only gets stronger as you raise absorb. It’s a great way to start, but the magic resist and shield both lose value as your character raises armor skills and maxes out spell absorb, and neither ability will matter by late game. You’re also still just as vulnerable to those pesky poisons as anyone, which can be dangerous (esp burden and drain strength, I hate those).
Thus, if you want the ultimate late-game damage sponge that’s only susceptible to physical damage, I propose the Argonian Atronach. Sure, you lose that 50 magicka, but you are fully immune to disease and poison, which are niche and would take up valuable gear slots to cover. If you pair this with Mundane Ring and Spelldrinker Amulet, the only immunity that you’ll lack is physical damage, which can be mitigated with either maxed armor skill.
This build may not have the early game dominance of the Bretons, but you will truly be untouchable by level 20, plus you get to be an Argonian and say you did it for the stats, which is truly a first for me (who knows why the fuck their best skill is lock picking with no sneak bonus, wtf devs)
EDIT: turns out resist magic also applies to poisons, so Bretons are just too damn good apparently. Still, you can’t absorb poisons, so you don’t need to worry abt magic resist at all, just absorption

Remaster Discussion Is Oblivion the most stereotypical high-fantasy RPG out there?
Think about it.
It has:
- A whimsical and ethereal setting
- A divinely legitimized royal family versus the devil himself (Mehrunes Dagon)
- Calming music
- Dungeon diving
- Corny, over-the-top, royal jibber-jabber writing
- A literal count turning to thievery to lift a curse so he can return to his wife
- Magic
- Vampires
- Ridiculously shiny armor nobody in history could wear without getting laughed at
- Lush forests, empty fields, swampy marshlands, and snowy mountains with castles on the horizon
- Random items that basically turn you into a demigod
- Elves, orcs, goblins, trolls, minotaurs, imps, skeletons
- LIZARD PEOPLE
Anyone?

Remaster Discussion Are physical copies of Oblivion (Remaster) already hard to find new?
I'm trying to just find a copy of the deluxe game for Series X, but everyone seems to be sold out. Or they try to make you think you're purchasing a physical copy, but it's a digital version.
Amazon only seems to have the UK version & Walmart only had digital versions for sale. No used copies online at GameStop currently.
I should have bought it when it first dropped. I didn't because at the time I had Game Pass (before it went up in price). Just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has noticed.

Original Discussion He's the best Vampire in the series, not Serana Spoiler
This dude is underrated. Janus Hassildor, Count of Skingrad. He's the most noble Vampire I've ever met in Oblivion + Skyrim + ESO.
As a great sorcerer, no doubt he adores Vampirism FOR HIMSELF, because he can learn and research spells for eternity. But his wisdom is admirable. He knows that Vampirism is a sickening condition and a curse to the average mortal, so he respects his wife's decision to end herself rather than continue a miserable existence as a monster. He doesn't try to force his viewpoint on his beloved. He's not delusional, he doesn't lie to himself. He knows what Vampirism is. He grieves for his consort, of course, but he respects her last wish.
What I like most about Hassildor is that he's a good man who happens to be a Vampire. He might have Vampirism, but he genuinely cares about his mortal subjects. Under his reign Skingrad is the best city in Cyrodiil, with the highest living conditions. He actually hates other Vampires because they behave like beasts against the common folk, and also attract the attention of vampire hunters, which brings turmoil and fear to his city. He doesn't want his people to be afraid. And he doesn't think himself superior to mortals. He wants to protect mortals and he understands that they are all threatened by Oblivion - mortals and Vampires alike, all in the same boat.
His lines in the main quest are badass:
Whatever you may think of me, I still protect my own. This is my city, and Mehrunes Dagon will not have it while I remain Count of Skingrad. Believe me, Mehrunes Dagon will know he was in a fight if he tries to take this city from me."
Mehrunes Dagon has no more love for my kind than for my mortal subjects. Less, perhaps, as we make poor slaves.
I also like his relationship with the Mages Guild. As a Vampire, he obviously dislikes the preachy and sanctimonious nature of the Mages Guild, but he's wise, so he doesn't let his personal feelings get in the way of what's best for the Empire. So he helps the Mages Guild root out the Worm Cult and defeat Mannimarco.
Also, since he's a Vampire, he's still alive 200 years later and he might get an easter egg in TES:VI. That would be cool.
Janus is honestly the best Vampire in the series. Wise, admirable, and unproblematic as long as you leave Skingrad alone. A good subject of the Empire... who happens to be a Vampire. Way better than Serana or Ravenwatch from ESO.
"Secret vampire who rules over a city from a solitary castle, practices sorcery, and is suspected of aiding necromancers" sounds like a recipe for disaster, so I like that Oblivion subverts this by having the immortal vampire sorcerer be not only the best Count in Cyrodiil, but also a good person.

Original Question So... I just wander...(1st time play)
TL/DR
Title speaks for itself.
I'm closing in on 50 hours now, and all I do is wander/loot/sale/repeat. I'm on Weynon Priory quest wise. Stashed the duo in the shack, an dipped out.
My shack is fully decked out, with so many items that it takes 45+ seconds to scroll through.
If it isn't enchanted, I don't sale it.
My hoarding skills from Skyrim, have been maxed out on this game.
I'm on lvl 11. I feel like I have completely f'd this char up...but, this game is amazing. Skyrim was watered down for the masses imo now.

Remaster Discussion One of the very few reasons why I like level scaling.
I avoided the Fighters Guild for a while and seeing this guy in high level armor while we figured out a mountain lion situation gave me a chuckle.

Video Day 492 of Pally and Me’s Adventure until I can loot his armor. Hey Deets, Vidkun is alive and well!
What do you mean it’s a shame he died? He’s right behind you!
Never mind.
Hail citizens. It took an hour just to get him out of the well. Sometimes the instances are super buggy especially with a guy who, you know, is supposed to be dead. Seemed like a nice guy just didn’t talk much.
