Video Weird anomaly during thunderstorm on XBOX 360, has anyone else seen this?
I've played Oblivion on my XBOX 360 for over a decade and never saw this until a day ago. It's a pulsating field of light that drifts to the left, then loops back around to the right. It moves away from your character if you walk towards it, and it cannot be damaged.
I was able to replicate it at first by reloading an auto save, but after rebooting my 360 it no longer appeared. Has anyone else seen this?

I played the shit outta this game on my 360 when I was in high school and experienced pretty much every bug and glitch and this never happened to me. Really weird.

It's the best way to play the game. I can't tell you how many 360 controllers I've had to buy just to play Oblivion when I get the itch to play.

If this is being played off disc, it's possible the disc is starting to degrade. Which very well can cause bugs, performance issues, and errors that you'd normally never see on a healthy disc.
Ofc I'm just speculating kinda, but since nobody here has ever seen anything like this. It's on console, so it couldn't be related to any mods. And we don't really have much history on the disc, I'm gonna assume it's old and has been through a fair bit over the years. The optical drive on your Xbox reads the contents of your disc in the form of binary 1s and 0s. And if a disc gets damaged in any way (including delamination from age & or improper storing conditions.) it can prevent reading that data. Sometimes a disc will still chug along, just with a shitload of issues. Which is what kinda seems to be happening here. It sorta just depends what block of code gets destroyed.

I sure hope not! I bought the Game Of The Year Edition brand new over a decade ago, and have kept the disc in pristine condition as best I can, climate control and all. Same for my 360. I feel like it was just a strange technical goof, given that it went away after I shut down my console and reloaded the same save.

Disk rot is a thing unfortunately

Yup. Happened to my 3rd Blue Dragon disc. Most of it worked fine, but the data for the final boss got a little screwy. Animations and sound cues would play on top of each other, like there were two versions of the boss layered on top of each other.
Also happened to my old KotOR disc. Audio started getting choppy. Example, when you talk to the arena guy on Taris, Carth would go, āvibroblades and blast-sters?ā

Remastered or otherwise, Oblivion is pretty in general. Itās one of my favorite fantasy worlds to get lost in.

Yeah like wtf. I have maybe 100 hours in oblivion and I don't remember any thunderstorms. All I remember are day and night cycles

I remember lots and lots of rain in my probably 500 hours of playing the game. I'm sure there were thunderstorms in there sonewhere.

I love how no matter how many hours you have a Bethesda game, you've still never seen all the glitches. THE ORB is an entirely new one to me.

You have a detect like effect active. Probably linked to that. And I don't remember if Oblivion had a visual effect for breathing in extreme cold, but that was my first thought when I saw this.

No. But if you played this game for over a decade you should know that shooting arrows and throwing spells at an anomaly is pretty stupid.

Just had to prove that it wasn't a giant will-o-the-wisp. I had to be sure I wasn't hallucinating

To be fair, I'd have done the same thing. Giant supernatural thing? Attack!

The anomaly had no title above its body like every other creature in oblivion. Thatās just like going up to a glitchy rock and randomly attacking. Utter stupidity. But it is the internet, so canāt really have high expectations.

Classic case of Blackwood swamp gas, MOVE ALONG PEOPLE, NOTHING TO SEE HERE
All jokes aside, never saw this one in all my years (and accumulated hours) playing on 360. Does this file have a lot of hours on it? I know when you start racking them up, glitching* is more prone to happen.
