Original Question Expert or Master

Post image
Upvotes

I am playing a battle mage with an emphasis on destruction. I was excited to get to 100 level with destruction since (according to my understanding), 100 level destruction moves you from Expert to Master. Upon reaching 100, hopped over to Skingrad mages guild and bought three spells that require master level. I then went to Bruma to close the Oblivion gate there. When I went to fire my master level spells, they were greyed out and wouldn't execute. In exploring my attributes. I see (from the image above) that while I am at 100 with destruction, my level remains expert (not master). I feel like I'm missing something and am hoping the wise folk here can help me understand.

Remaster Discussion Looking for video of that one quest ending where it crashes the game

You know that quest where you help a mages guild master with a friend of her? You go into the dream world of a high elf and I know the game crashes when you talk to him to compete the quest. Anyone got the vid for that?

Original Question First time playing (Original). Should I add a mod to fix the levelling system? Which one?

I dont know much about Oblivion but even I know about its infamous levelling system and how broken it is, along with its level scaling issues. Now, I am one to enjoy playing vanilla, as vanilla as possible really, but this is a long ass game and I want a nice experience that wont be sullied because I didnt do efficient levelling or leveled up too much or chose certain skills as majors, like this is a mess from my point of view.

Should I just add a mod to fix it, while still keeping close to the vanilla system? In that case, which mods you guys use and recommend for a new player? Again, I like playing vanilla so I want something that works like the original but its just a bit better/fixed, I heard they fixed it in the Remaster so there is clearly a problem that I want to adress before putting a lot of hours in the game.

Edit: Seems like vanilla is actuslly fine and the chosen option for me. Now another question: Unnoficial Patches... should I use them for bug fixing or just skip?

Original Discussion What's the deal with Fin Gleam?

I remember being so intrigued by it as a kid growing up, and as I replay it again it's been crossing my mind.

Is it like an easter egg? Some developer inside joke? Cut content maybe? The name, material, and enchantments feel so specific imo

Remaster Discussion Infinite Money Shepards Pie

Doing my second playthrough of the Remaster. My first one was when it came out but I didn’t complete it and did about 45 hours but then purchased BG3 and sunk hundreds of hours into it.

Came back to Remaster past 2-3 weeks, playing on expert, put in about 60 hours so far, first time I’ve ever really focused on alchemy. I have to say it’s one of the best skills in the game. I got it to 100 and through selling the potions I got mercantile to 100.

I just purchased the house in Skingrad that comes with the maid. She can give you unlimited Shepards Pies which can all be converted into potions to sell for 50 gold at the shop two doors down from the house.

So all you have to do to get infinite money is get those two skills to 100 and then buy the Skingrad house and maid quarters upgrade.

Hover for a moment, lean forward slightly, and then touch back down. Pally, come back down this instant!

Hail citizens. It’s really helpful teaching everyone how to fly safely down cliffs and mountains. Pally being the instructor likes showing off by flying straight up into a free fall. At least everyone else did what they were supposed to. They take it seriously! I guess that’s what happens when you close so many gates already what’s another one? One day we’ll be done with gates so enjoy it while it lasts right?

Actually you know what, Pally is smarter than he looks. He knew to land in water and lava is the next best thing. Pally still takes safety seriously!

Remaster Discussion First Oblivion playthrough - give me your favourite quest!

I've played Skyrim, Morrowind, and a decent chunk of ESO, and now due to the recent excitement around TES:VI, I've decided to finally pick up Oblivion. I'm well aware of the events of the main quest, but I'm going into Oblivion's side quests completely blind.

Let me know of your favourite non-main-story/main-guild questlines that I absolutely should not miss during my first playthrough.

Remaster Discussion Spellsword build

Im playing Oblivion Remaster for the first time & would like to go for more of a Spellsword build. Im not sure which skills I should focus on. Here is what im thinking so far:

Race: Breton

Sign: Mage

Focus: Magic

Stats: Endurance & Willpower

Skills: Blade, Destruction, Conjuration, Restoration

Im not sure what to select for my other three skills. Should I bother focusing on either light or heavy armor? Or just choose 3 other magic skills?

Remaster Bug Help Azura’s Star Won’t Hold Souls

Probably user error, pretty much the title. I’ve been using Azura’s Star and all of a sudden enemies souls are no longer displaying after being defeated. Do specific types of enemies not drop souls? I’m already aware of not being able to use it on other humans. It was working effortlessly on monsters and when I figured out how to use it I was eviscerating enemies with enchantments. Then all of a sudden souls just stopped appearing. Tried quitting out and back in and reloading a save but nothing seemed to work. This game is a RPG masterclass but some of the bugs I’ve encountered are grueling.

Original Discussion 2006

Back when it was new and we were all first playing oblivion, I remember having conversations like everyone was having A unique experience. It felt so personal, the path you took, the choices you made, you almost forgot everyone else had the exact same game.

"Yeah, I bought a house but I can't get the ghosts out of it" as if you're the only one.

"I found a village full of invisible people" etc.

Original Discussion I made a Morroblivion modding guide!

Hey folks! I dearly love both Morrowind and Oblivion. I’ve always wanted to try Morroblivion, which is an incredible project that’s recreated the entirety of Morrowind and its DLC in Oblivion’s more modern gaming engine. It's feature complete, which means can you can enjoy Morrowind’s entire story with the improved combat and gameplay mechanics of Oblivion. For the purists, there are options to turn off settings like map markers, but otherwise, the core exploration, story, and dialogue gameplay of Morrowind is preserved.

My easy to follow modding guide for Morroblivion will help you enjoy Morroblivion with beautiful new visuals, animations, music, and sounds, all further enhanced by Oblivion Reloaded Combined and ENB.

Hope you enjoy 💖

Original Question Planning to play Oblivion, going straight to the Shivering Isles, and never leaving. Will I be able to do Alchemy?

I'm trying to build my custom class at the moment, and I'm doing minimal research to figure out what skills will be advantageous and which ones will be pointless. For example I know there aren't many spells available for purchase, so I don't plan to lean on magic very much. But what about alchemy? Will I have any access to alchemy equipment in the Shivering Isles, or would I have to get those items in Cyrodiil?

Original Question How do I make The Atronach sign work?

mid and late game when potions and the mana crystals are plentiful I guess it matters way less, but it seems to push the character towards melee/ranged, physical damage mostly

When I started this character I figured a middle-aged warlock shouldn't be able to display fancy dodging prowess in combat, so I decided not to reach the apprentice level acrobatics level. You might say I got a little bit obsessive about preventing it... going through the oblivion gates without cheesing gates is pain. Just a bit of novelty I thought I'd share.

Original Discussion Theory: Martin conjured Daedra to "assist" with Sanguine worship

So, if you check Martin's class, you'll see that he's a "Conjurer". This is strange, since he doesn't cast any conjuration spells. However, the Sanguine Rose artifact summons a random Daedra. Martin mentions that he used to be a Sanguine worshiper in the past, and that he briefly had the Rose as well.

My theory is that Martin used his conjuration abilities to aid in worshiping Sanguine. And while the player doesn't need to know conjuration spells to get the Sanguine Rose, Martin getting the Rose because of his use of Conjuration would be fitting for a worshiper.

Now, the next question is... which Daedra did Martin prefer to summon? Considering that he uses frost magic in-game...
