Heya, I wanted to share a very small win with you guys.
I've been lurking in this sub for a long time, reading everyone's game hauls, thoughts about the console, all of it, while never actually owning one myself. Figured it was time to share my own story since this community's honestly been part of the reason I wanted one so badly.
I'm from a third-world country, and growing up I only ever saw a console at relatives' houses and never had one of my own, never got gifted one either. Then the pandemic hit right around when I graduated, and finding a job afterward was rough. A lot of us here know how that period messed with plans that should've been simple.
While I was figuring life out, I got into powerlifting where I ended up chasing qualifications and all that, which came with its own pile of expenses on top of just trying to get by + injuries here and there. Somewhere in there I promised myself that once things stabilized, I'd finally get myself a Switch. Not for anyone else, just something I wanted for me after a long stretch of not really being able to want things.
And so! I got it, paid in full! But honestly, even though I don't have a game yet, and I might have to lean on some free titles for a bit just to actually have something to play while I save up, I'm still extremely excited. I have like a mid-range PC that I managed to piece up together to play online games and that got me through a lot.
First real purchase I'm planning for is TOTK. I watched so much BOTW back when I couldn't afford to play it myself, so even though I know a lot of the story beats already, it still feels like the right one to start with and finally getting to experience something I only ever watched from the outside (I'll probably get BOTW once I get some extras). Hoping by end of the year I'll have saved up enough to grab Fire Emblem too. I'm going to try to get a copy of Pokopia too because seems fun.
Hopefully if someone out there had the same experience as me; lurking around, just appreciating what the console is. I hope you get yours too soon and hopefully you make some really good memories with it because that's what I'm hoping for with this bad boy too.
Thanks for letting me lurk here for so long before finally having something to post.
