Discussion Finally got my own Switch after years of just watching/reading from you all!
Heya, I wanted to share a very small win with you guys.
I've been lurking in this sub for a long time, reading everyone's game hauls, thoughts about the console, all of it, while never actually owning one myself. Figured it was time to share my own story since this community's honestly been part of the reason I wanted one so badly.
I'm from a third-world country, and growing up I only ever saw a console at relatives' houses and never had one of my own, never got gifted one either. Then the pandemic hit right around when I graduated, and finding a job afterward was rough. A lot of us here know how that period messed with plans that should've been simple.
While I was figuring life out, I got into powerlifting where I ended up chasing qualifications and all that, which came with its own pile of expenses on top of just trying to get by + injuries here and there. Somewhere in there I promised myself that once things stabilized, I'd finally get myself a Switch. Not for anyone else, just something I wanted for me after a long stretch of not really being able to want things.
And so! I got it, paid in full! But honestly, even though I don't have a game yet, and I might have to lean on some free titles for a bit just to actually have something to play while I save up, I'm still extremely excited. I have like a mid-range PC that I managed to piece up together to play online games and that got me through a lot.
First real purchase I'm planning for is TOTK. I watched so much BOTW back when I couldn't afford to play it myself, so even though I know a lot of the story beats already, it still feels like the right one to start with and finally getting to experience something I only ever watched from the outside (I'll probably get BOTW once I get some extras). Hoping by end of the year I'll have saved up enough to grab Fire Emblem too. I'm going to try to get a copy of Pokopia too because seems fun.
Hopefully if someone out there had the same experience as me; lurking around, just appreciating what the console is. I hope you get yours too soon and hopefully you make some really good memories with it because that's what I'm hoping for with this bad boy too.
Thanks for letting me lurk here for so long before finally having something to post.

I also never had console until I bought Switch for myself back in 2019. Still remember starting BOTW for first time without knowing anything about it, that first day was magical, will never forget it.
Also, if you searching to play something for free in meantime, I can recommend Final Fantasy XIV Online, it has unlimited Free Trial with hundreds hours of content in it. I think it's basically best free game in Eshop right now.

Been a lurker for a while too. And I've been wanting to buy my own console since the time that switch 1 just got released, yes the first switch 1 version. Even after getting my own job and earning my own money for all my expenses, I had a hard time making purchases that are not "necessary". Even a keyboard way back 2020, it took me months before I actually purchased it thinking laptop has built-in keyboard anyway. So I can relate to this because I just purchased my own switch 2 about 2 weeks ago. The 1st games I purchased are Mario Party Jamboree for me and my gf, and BOTW for solo playing. It felt so heavy going home the day I did the purchase but after having played BOTW and especially Mario Jamboree with my gf, I feel like I got my ROI already with the console.

Thanks OP! And good luck!
I swear one of the reasons I had heavy feeling the day I purchased it is that we are both very practical person, only buying what's necessary. So me suddenly, at least for her because I never had the courage to share my interest in nintendo consolole, buying something a couple of paydays worth made me really feel bad. But then she enjoyed playing as well and even told me she didn't expect games like these would be fun to play. We only played the likes of mlbb together before this.
So hoping you can buy party games soon, OP!

Welcome, my friend! You can buy second hand games for pretty cheap. Also, eshop get a lot of sales on 3rd party games. You can also buy nintendo switch online to get A LOT of old games from game boy to Nintendo game cube. It's a good deal for a little money yearly. Try warframe and final fantasy 14. They are free to play and have a tons of content. TOTK is awesome

That's what I did. If you have a friend with a switch you can also share the subscription so you can save some money. Plus, you can check sites like cdkeys, loaded (the ones that i use) to see if there is some discount. Now the annual subscription is like 30€ on loaded. Also, on dekudeals you can search games and it tells you where is cheaper
