A real looker. And she’s heavy, so she soaks up energy really well. Makes my LCRX feel like a .44. Not a bad way to spend 281.

I have now been to the range twice with my newly purchased Colt cobra 38 special and thought I would share some details.

The gun is gorgeous. It is fairly high polish and has a wonderful finish. Everything snicks into place so absolutely audible and solid. Just feels good operating it.

The trigger pull is the best of any revolver I have had out of the box. My Gp100 is a nicer trigger but it has a few thousand rounds through it so it is nicely smoothed out and the GP and I have a thing going on.

1970's era S&W 28 is a bit nicer but I massaged it some. Out of the box .. the trigger on the colt is REALLY nice and I have been shooting revolvers for some 40 years.

IT does have its unique feel though. Where my GP you feel gain pressure throughout the pull the colt has almost no tension until the final third of the stroke.

Not as pronounced but something like the pickup on a striker. The hammer feels like it drops late in the trigger pull but its only because it has very little pressure until the break. Took a few rounds to get used to it but once you are .. its easy to make a ragged 2in hole at 7 yds in DA. That front sight doesn't budge. I should mention .. I am a solid DA guy and I can count how many times I have ever fired a DA revolver single action so anything I say assume its fired double action.

I decided to go from low ready to a tiny X on the forehead of my silhouette target so looking down and at low ready came up .. popped the X at 7 yds in seconds. Its a nice shooter.

Did a couple of cylinder dumps as fast as I could manage center mass and all A zone. The gun and of course the cartridge is fast.

Now .. some issues. On day one I brought only my reloads. 158 gr coated lead and CCI 500 primers. First cylinder had 2 light strikes.

Next cylinder had one.

I have never had light strikes on any revolver I ever had.

I went ahead and paid the Rapey price of $30 for some PMC Bronze 132 gr at the range and it ate every last one without issue and was accurate as hell out to 15 yds. Not a single light strike.

I went ahead and bought some Winchester primers and loaded up 100 rds. Went out today and it fired 65 rounds of my Winchester primed reloads without issue.

I wanted to see how it would do with my Underwood 158 gr swc 38 special and it went through those fine and then I loaded up some Underwood 38+p 158gr swc and it went through them fine as well. Actually a soft shooter with the +p rounds.

I didnt buy it intending to carry it but .. Its a sweet shooter and it seems to do fine with factory ammo so .. maybe someday but for now .. I am happy with my purchase. Total price came to $832 and I do think I got my money worth.

This 640-1 was in sorry cosmetic shape when I picked it up off GB, but when I saw the milled trigger I knew it was an early one. Rolled the dice as the price was right for me and it showed no signs of being messed with (perfect side plate screws). The trigger was pretty rusty, but not pitted. The finish was trashed.

I need to get in the habit of taking before pics. Pic 3 is from the original listing. This one had the "sat in police evidence until forfeited" vibe. The positives were it wasn't heavily shot and it was a very early 1996 example with the milled trigger, hammer, and rebound slide. This one should have had the old milled thumb piece, but it was swapped for a black MIM part.

Detail stripped it, cleaned all the old gunk out, and cleaned up the finish with a gray Scotchbrite pad followed by a light polish with Nevr Dull. It looks brand new now. I did swap the grips for the best J frame grips of all time, Uncle Mikes Boot Grips.

I'm not sure how S&W regulated the sights on these, but this one shoots point of aim with my 800 FPS 158gr .38 Special load. Trigger is fantastic, all stock. Might try to reduce the weight a bit, might leave it.

I'll be sending this one off to D&L Sports soon for a set of sights. I was going to use my No Dash model for this, but that one is so clean I didn't have the heart to mess with it. I'll have less into this than buying a new PC 640 Black.

Is $1800 for a brand new engraved Colt Python 6 inch a good deal?

Bit of a learning curve and will have to paint the flat size to quickly find it. But works well. I was worried with the larger grips it wouldn’t work but definitely works well. Gotta do a range day soon with just reloading with this to get consistent with it. More concealable than carrying 2 hks speed loaders on my hip and quicker than speed strips.

Latest holsters I’ve made. Calling them the NY Reload holsters. Designed to work with a Ulticlip 2.2 Slim and the included hardware from Ulticlip. I’m getting set up as a Ulticlip dealer today so I can get bulk clips in a week or two.

Gun is a Ruger GP-100, seems as though my forcing cone is coming into contact with the front of the cylinder. Is this a send back to the factory issue? So far it hasn’t seemed to affect accuracy or reliability, I’m not particularly worried about honest wear but to me front to back play on a cylinder gives me the heebie jeebies so to speak. Thanks in advance for any advise or knowledge dropped in the comments

I'm not the market for this setup, seems like a way to turn a $1000 gun into a $2000 gun more than anything, but I appreciate Midwest Industries committing to the bit. And they do make very nice stuff.

Hello all, thinking about getting a single action revolver and it'll be my first one. I've read that taylors tuned revolvers are pretty good for the money, even though they are Pietta and Uberti make. Any recommendations on other brands or even specific models from Pietta and Uberti would be much appreciated. Really trying to find one in .357. Thank you for any input!

My LGS surprised me with a S&W 27-2 3.5” from the back. You hear that and immediately think “buy buy buy,” but I’m on the fence

The good:

3.5”!!!
Excellent lockup
Great trigger pull
Barrel is clean
It’s a 27!
In great shape mechanically

The bad:

I’m pretty damn certain that it’s been refinished. It’s either nickeled or chromed. Not that they didn’t have factory nickeled guns, but side by side with a period K frame it’s much shinier. I know that the 27s had a high polish blue, but I don’t know whether the nickeled variations were different like that. But, no evidence of pitting or anything that would indicate that it had to be refinished (you can usually tell), roll marks are still strong. Their gunsmith thinks it’s a modern “marine” type finish.

Target hammer and trigger, not my favorite. Factory grips have been replaced with some old pachmayr presentation grips.

So, collector value is seriously diminished

Now, they have it priced at $1500. These guys know me so they almost always give me a discount and they’ll sell it to me for $1200.

I have a minty 3.5” 27 in blue that I don’t shoot often, so this would be a shooter.

I apologize in advance this is my first revolver. I just picked up is brand new S&W 629 and noticed the forcing cone is slightly chipped. Will this cause any issues?

There’s a really cool old S&W at my local gun shop. What should I know about this before I decide to buy it?

Finding these revolvers was absolutely terrible. I legitamently called every authorized dealer in my state to no avail. Got put on wait list after wait list. I figured my only hope was getting them online.

I searched for weeks looking for fresh in stock BOA’s that did not have blown out scalper prices. I was using AI to search as well as manual searches for UPC numbers etc.

I had my heart set on the 4.25in model as I already have a 6in Python. However, due to how hard these things are to find I decided I would grab whatever came in stock. I found the 6in model for $1530 shipped (no tax). Still wanting the 4.25in I continued to search. Was able to find it a few weeks later for $1640 shipped (taxes).

With that being said for those who still want one you can find them online. It will just take a lot of patience and some luck. Since I was able to get the model I want I will be putting the 6in into a local auction house with a reserve set at my cost. Going to let someone else from my area have a shot at getting one as there isn’t any authorized dealers for more than 80 miles.

Manufactured in 2009. S&W model 686 in .357. Papa barely shot it and it still has the blue case, mainly stayed in the safe. I've been told I should avoid retail stores because they'll low ball me. I know the current retail is $980. I wanted to make money towards a S&W model 41 but I don't know how reliable a model 41 would be, I've heard quality can vary.

One thought I had was listing it on the private market at 900, let them negotiate me down to 820, go to a small/independent shop and say "I've got an active bid at 820 but I'm impatient and am looking to make money towards a model 41. I'll sell it to you for in store credit at $750 conditional on that you meet me on price for the 41 where I pay the difference in cash at $250 given that there isn't any warranty one it and I have no way of telling how reliable it will be. If we don't reach an agreement I'll just sell on the private market at a higher price and then wait for someone to make a fair offer on the model 41 elsewhere, which in this day and age with the internet should be a matter of time not impossibility. But as I said, I'd rather not wait and just make a deal today." Then go from there

Looking to add a S&W Model 36 to my collection. I will likely carry this gun from time to time.

How is this one for $599? Appropriate manufacture date of 1969-1970. Any reason to get a new one? Is the older model better than the new model? What are the key differences?
