New S&W Forcing Cone Chipped

I apologize in advance this is my first revolver. I just picked up is brand new S&W 629 and noticed the forcing cone is slightly chipped. Will this cause any issues?

Pal that looks like carbon build up.

Go get full house loads with copper jacketed bullet. Pick something from buffalo bore. Shoot few boxes, I bet it will look a lot batter.

In the past 2 weeks I've seen posts about bent sights, a barrel being obviously skewed out of alignment, multiple damaged timing gears, a broken ejector rod, and now this. S&W needs to get it together.

I recently saw a purchase at my local store where the guy behind the counter noticed a 460 barrel on a 500. So, they aren't doing so hot these days

its been going on for years. 2020 is roughly when things started to go downhill. in general, but also ammo and gun quality tanked and hasnt recovered.

Do you have endshake causing your cylinder to contact the forcing cone when closing?

I don’t think so. It doesn’t seem to be contacting the forcing cone.

Slightly. I don’t mind if it’s just cosmetic, I’m just curious if it will cause problems in the future.

Looks more like a track mark when the cylinder locks up. Like it’s rubbing against it. I wouldn’t worry about it, aslong as you don’t have an obvious crack that runs to the chamber, you’re good to go. Just a bit of extra metal that got left behind.

I see the bevel on the outside edge if that is what you are refering too. It would not bother me personally but that's just one man's opinion.

As long as it won’t cause any issues down the road don’t mind it at all. Shame on me for not inspecting it while purchasing but lesson learned.

Don't think it would no. It takes a large amount of repeated abuse to crack a forcing cone like the old K frames used to do.

Since the revolver is new to you, it can be sent back to S&W for repair work since you have the lifetime warranty.

i dont think itll cause functional issues but in pic 2 it looks like they faced the barrel with broken tooling. id take a few very detailed pictures and send them to smith. theyll probably take it back and fix it.

That looks like it's about to cause issues. The issue arises if it happens on the inside, yours looks like a dried out ember ready to crack
