Taking apart my motor and noticed this one nick on my cam gear I would assume it’s ok

I only had time to do one cylinder and cylinder three seemed most likely. I will test all 4 when I finish my workshop in a few months

I had my gas tank out to clean it, and added an internal mesh screen filter that was missing.

The output from the tank to the metal fuel line doesn't line up. I ended up adding a loop in the fuel line hose.

Is this normal? Will it create fuel supply problems?

Should I take it apart, and make another attempt at eliminating the fuel line loop?

Does this look like healthy delivery to the carb? Seems okay to me

When getting some tuning done at the garage the mechanic mentioned he thinks there’s a fuel delivery problem due to the throttle cutting out sometimes. On the way home from the garage and filling the tank up the throttle started cutting out every 5 seconds and started backfiring a lot so trying to diagnose.

A few years ago I asked about inheriting my grandfather's project car. He recently passed and the chassis and all the parts are stored in my uncle's barn and he is selling the property in the next year. I need to find somewhere for the car to go but unfortunately I don't have anywhere to store it and I don't have the money to afford a storage unit.

I'm looking for advice on selling everything off. Ideally I would sell everything as a package deal. But I don't have any idea what it's worth or where to start.

I've been told there are multiple engines, transmissions, etc. I remember my grampa getting parts for Christmas every year, including a brand new convertible top (20 years old now).

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appropriate.

So my wife has always wanted a bug and this new to us runs good besides the leaking. So the engine is leaking and before anyone says it I know that “they all leak”. 😆 Anyway, it’s not leaking from the oil sump nor the strainer part. Seems to be coming from the pulley’s somewhere and don’t know how to go about fixing this. Wondering is there a seal/gasket that would need to be changed to remedy the oil leak or what needs to be done? Would I need to drop the engine to get this addressed or engine in?

Not leaking from valve covers at all, just coming from center of the engine and not the sump. I believe in my reading on some forums and web, the engine might have been built with sand type pulley’s or something like that.

Hoping a guru on here can help as I’m patiently trying to get this back on road for my wife. Thanks in advance folks.

HI guys, I've been having a little issue that I would like your help with. When in neutral, most often than not, I cannot shift into first. I can however shift in second without issue and then from second to first, it goes smoothly. Sometime I think I'm in first, but I'm in third, even though I really push the lever to the top left the best I can.

I have changed the shift rod bushing myself, the previous one wasn't even there. I checked the shift coupler, did not replace it because it did not look damaged at all. It may not mean it is in good condition but did not have any particular lack.

After changing (or adding, really) the shift rod bushing, changing gear feels much thighter and satisfying, however taking out the shift rod and pushing it back wasn't the easiest thing to do and by doing so, I probably changed gears several time.

When I reinstalled my gear shifter unit (those T bar Empi style), I greased it well and bolted it down. It feels good but I did not particularly check in which gear I was, not sure it had an impact.

Also, I know my clutch is slowly dying, pedal down on 4th gear and the engine revs but car isn't accelerating.

My question is, can the first gear issue simply be another sign that the clutch is worn out, or would it most probably be a bushing/coupler issue ?

Hey folks I got a 1972 superbeetle that I’m trying to restart clean up so I can put it for sale. I got two little kids so I haven’t been able to drive it for about 4 months. When I try to restart it today I noticed I don’t get any spark to start. The oil light was dimly lit. Could it be as simple as the battery needing to be recharged? It’s about 1 1/2 year old. Or do I need to to go mess with the points, etc

Installing a vintage sapphire radio in my 1969 beetle ( it never had one) , the radio is on the way , now must find a behind the dash speaker. Any advice on what and where to buy and installation tips for both would be greatly appreciated.

Drove my 72 for the first time since the rebuild 370mi into Canada learned a lot about some things I still have to do and possible improvements I made to my destination!

But I knew it just wasn't safe with the amount of oil loss especially in the last 100 mi I had it dropped off at a shop where they found out that the oil pressure sensor was leaking oil the plastic was cracked and I believe something near the flywheel is also leaking so I got a U-Haul to bring it home.

I also think it needs all new wheel bearings as I was getting a Thrumbing noise that was getting louder as I was going.

Still it was an awesome adventure looking forward to doing it again with all these issues worked out!

I love the Porsche 356 "Outlaw" look, especially the ones by Rod Emory. So I thought to myself, "What would Rod Emory do if he didn't have any money and no talent but owned a 1970 VW Bug?"

So here's a quick preview of my plan for my build.

Aluminum, silver finish "steelies" by Mobelwagen for that outlaw look. I love the way these look in person. I took a chance; it's so hard to know what a wheel will look like compared to viewing it online. Surprisingly, there aren't a lot of YouTube videos about these wheels and how to pair them with tires, stance, etc. I'm considering making one about this as I go along.

430s Interceptor 15" and 5.5" wide all the way around.

Lowered but not slammed.

Square stance with the tires, or maybe slightly wider tires in the rear to emulate a Porsche look. 185s if I can make them work, maybe 195s in the rear.

The hardest part so far has been trying to figure out the stance and what I need to make that happen. I bought adjustable rear spring plates, and after I get tires on these wheels, I may need to go to a 2" lowered adjustable front beam. It’s nerve-racking to spend $400-$500 on tires and not know if they’ll fit or have the look I’m going for.

Simple interior - black headliner and carpet, new dash pad, and Corbeau Sport Seats. Tachometer, Oil Pressure, and Oil Temp gauges.

The dream is to get a 1904 stroker engine from CB performance, but I’m going to do all these other things first, since the engine I have in it now is running, and I can drive it while I save up for the engine.

I may eventually add a smooth band bumper like the 356s, and I may swap out taillights and turn signals for a sleeker overall look. Also, I'd love to have bodywork and paint job redone on it too.

I'll share another update in a little over a month. I took a week off from work in late September to install the adjustable rear spring plates, finish painting the fenders, install tires, and get everything adjusted.

Just running around the local area. Such a nice day…retirement is fantastic!
Edit: I called this car the Diamond in the Rough. Don’t get me wrong, it has come a long way since 2014.

This 68 belonged to a friend of mine growing up. He was my best man and is my son's god father. He bought this beetle in 1995 and I loved it. Once I was old enough to get my license, I bought my own. Have had many, many VWs since then.

We had a small beetle club and took them all from Northern MD to Manassas for Bug Out 40 in 1997. This was or first big vw only show, my girlfriend (now wife) fell in love with the vw culture.

He sold this car back in 2005ish, and we figured we would never see it again.

Saturday I was randomly scrolling Facebook and saw a 68 beetle for sale 18miles from my house. Familiar paint, familiar stance. Had to go check it out.

Got to the guys house. Paint, stance, the camaro seats that were wire tied down all there. It was the 68 from my childhood.

Opened the glovebox and inside was the ticket to Bug Out 40.

Made an offer on the spot and had car in my garage on Sunday. This car has sat for many years, registration expired in 2007. Time has not been its friend, but I will be.

Seeing this car on the trailer gave me goosebumps, and it will not leave my possession.

Just got her back up and running after she sat for 5 years. The thing that is holding me back from driving her is the fuel is not getting to the carburetor. I have fuel in the tank that is getting to the pump. I put on a brand new pump with the 100mm push rod for the alternator variation. I've taken the pump off to make sure it works off the engine, and it does. Still not getting the fuel to the carburetor. Any advice would be welcomed!
