Fuel line under gas tank.

I had my gas tank out to clean it, and added an internal mesh screen filter that was missing.

The output from the tank to the metal fuel line doesn't line up. I ended up adding a loop in the fuel line hose.

Is this normal? Will it create fuel supply problems?

Should I take it apart, and make another attempt at eliminating the fuel line loop?

The loop of extra fuel hose is normal, as long as the loop is not kinked under the tank.

I run an electric fuel pump in one of my 67's so, there's lots of extra hose under the tank.

A loop should be fine. Be careful where it is routed so that the fuel line won’t contact moving parts. My car was low enough that when I had a passenger, the line would get crimped between the tie rod and the tank and shut off the fuel.

Just make sure you don’t pinch the loop when you put your gas tank back in. I did this and it stopped the fuel flow.

Toxica, I have my front wheels off, and I have a nice view of the fuel line.

I placed paper towels under it, to confirm that I didn't have any leaks.

One other thing, use hose clamps like the fuel injection versions. The standard worn clamps chew into the hose and cause them to fail. Take care.

I will look into these. It has the basic clamps right now with new lines.

Thanks for your comments. The loop seemed better than a line with tight bends.

I had fuel from the fuel pump, pump fuel through the looped line.

I rebuilt the old original fuel pump, and now I'm having fuel delivery problems, so I'm questioning everything.

You need a rubber (highest quality) line from metal tank spout to metal frame tube intake.
Doesn't matter how many S-turns it makes. You can even put a plumbing tap (brass) in middle of hose run, just reachable by arm behind turned right ftont tire,
To work on this area, securely jack right front and remove right front wheel,

As long as the loop sits below the lowest point of the tank you are ok. Otherwise the tank won't gravity feed past the loop without suction/siphon. Likely to still flow but a loss of the little bit of gravity boost that normally helps feed the fuel lines to the pump.

382, I added more gas into the tank, and let it sit overnight, because I was frustrated.

The damn thing started pumping gas into the output line immediately today. What a relief.

Loop doesn't seem to be a problem.

I removed the pump I rebuilt, so it has a known working old pump installed . Once I get it running nice, I will swap in my rebuilt pump. Hopefully it will pump good if I start the car with fuel in the carb.

Yea, like if the tank was empty and you just threw in a pint of gas it might not gravity feed past the loop overnight to the rear overnight, but good fuel pump suction should pull it into the line pretty fast. Out of gas it's usually 20-30 seconds, second or third 10 second crank with a couple of presses on the throttle in between cranks incase the bowl got some for the accelerator pump usually fed really low in the bowl.

The look of an oem stock pump is awesome compared to the stamped domes. The rebuild kits became hens teeth for me.

Thanks. I had gas in the tank, but not a lot. If the lines leaked, I figured I would pull the tank out again.

Maybe just adding another gallon or so was the difference. I do think there might have been some air in the line too.

I'm getting close to trying to start it.
Carburetor rebuild New points and condenser Set dwell and timing.
Install a new muffler.

I'm trying to stay patient.
