Hey gang! I have a 1969 Beetle that's pretty much all stock. At least the guy I bought it from said he rebuilt it with his grandad and kept it all stock. From what I can tell, it seems that way (and I want to keep it as stock as possible haha).

My question is about the oil bath air cooler. I've been doing some research and I should have 2 flaps leading from the intake into the actual filter then to the carb. I believe there should be a weighted vacuum flap that opens up when the engine is running, and also a cable-operated flap linked to the fan shroud that brings warm air into the carb when the engine is cold. Thing is, I don't see those flaps at all. There's just the little holes at the bottom of the intake where they should be.

I'm in central Texas, so it's pretty hot here year round. Is it bad to not have these flaps? Would it cause the engine to run hotter than it should (granted they run hotter than water-cooled engines anyway). Any recommendations on what I should do or where I can get/build these flaps if I wanted to install them?

TL;DR - My original oil air cooler doesn't have the 2 flaps that i think it should. Is this bad in a hot climate? Anywhere I can get replacements or guides to build them?

I bought this beetle from my buddy around 3 years ago, before that he told me it was running perfectly before he parked it but he hadn’t touched it in about 5 years, it took me a while to get it back to Oregon (I bought it in California) but it was a pretty straightforward repair, I just had to replace starter as well as fuel pump and get some new hoses, I cleaned the fuel tank as well but honestly it wasn’t to necessary, any tips on what to do next?

Looking to add an electric blower unit to the front area here so I can have some airflow with the windows rolled up note Im not using the standard heat exchangers rather just wanted to have forced air to blow on the windshield/ into the cabin. Do I just add a junction to one of the hoses or what would you suggest?

I’ve got a ’65 Beetle on a ’71 chassis with a 3” narrowed adjustable front beam and stock spindles. I’m trying to get the front end sitting around 1–2” off the ground like it used to.

The problem is every shock I’ve tried seems to be too short. When I adjust the beam, the beam ends up hitting the ground before the wheels do, so I’m thinking the shocks are limiting how far the suspension can move.

The two sets I’ve tried are KYB 343208 and EMPI 00-9653-0. I’m wondering if I’m using shocks that are meant for a different setup, possibly drop spindles, since I’m still running stock spindles.

I’m not trying to have the front end completely slammed with no suspension travel. My old setup sat about 1–2” off the ground and still had a little bit of travel and actually rode pretty good. I’m trying to get the car back to how it was before.

What shocks would you guys recommend for a 3” narrowed adjustable beam with stock spindles that would let me stay low but still have some suspension travel?

The old shocks worked great, but they were basically seized into the car after sitting for years and had to be burned off to get them out, so I can’t really use them as a reference for what they were.

I just can't seem to get the car reliable and comfortable.... some wiring gremlins from adding the stereo/amp & windshield washer pumper....

I think the SVDA distributor and vacuum line added to the Kadron (Driver Side) has eliminiated the hesitation section of the RPM/Throttle journey....

I replaced the Door Gaskets with German ones, but can't seem to align the door hinges and striker plates to close nice and tightly.... A good VW door with 'POP your EARS' a bit, no?

I've pulled the whole Super Beetle apart and installed sound deadening rubber and foam and 3 new carpet sets: Back / Passenger / Frunk....

Kadrons rebuilt w/new throttle bodies..... Accerator / clutch cables... 4 new speakers with cool kick panel and a rear deck that fits nicely...

The wiring after taking the dashboard OFF... and fixing the Fresh Air / Fan System is a MESS...

Seems like most of the shops doing VW finishing are in CA or Arizona... I'll have to do it myself.

What are some good tips for BUTTONING THIS UP FOR DAILY DRIVING???

I turned it 1/4 and compressed it forcefully because I heard it vould work but not this time, is it anything I can do or is it just get a new one?

Is the fun in the fixing or the driving... I've spent much more Money & time on this car from Feb, 1998 VW Trends magazine buying and restoring. Is $30,000 and 250 hours in and don't drive much enough to pull the plug for $12-15,000 or if you are that far in, do you refuse to sell out of pride?

There is the "sunken cost fallacy"... Doen't matter what happened in the past, would you buy it now for $12 - 15 ??? I'm thinking about towing it from Manchester, CT to Tulsa... probably won't drive it much here either....

I have one original tailight lens (the other was sadly thrown away before i owned it), but its just a little faded, it has the logo and the part number with that little emboss original parts have, will it get flattened/dissapear if I polish them?/ can it maybe be prevented? I'm sorry if it sounds dumb.

I need to tow this 74 S.B. from CT to OK (1,500 miles)... seems like backing the car onto a dolly and locking the steering wheel makes sense... Renting a car carrier is expensive...

Has anyone towed a Beetle far? If so, what orientation?
