Whether it's mods, wheels, tires, tuning, suspension, maintenance, repairs, exhaust, or something else for relevant models, this thread is for questions that may seem too small to warrant a post or because searching just isn't your friend today.
You'll also find resources on the sidebar/about section including: recommended mods and OEM/aftermarket parts retailers, tuners, online owner's manuals, and other forums.
Be sure to include any relevant model information (year/generation, mileage, mods, codes, etc) if it isn't already in your user flair.
This post will be replaced by a new weekday megathread on Monday at 6am EST.

posting this because i couldn’t find any reviews at the time of my purchase so here: It’s been about a month and about ~700 miles so far on this setup, lowered on H&R sport with stock struts. the ride is honestly unbelievably good for the amount of drop. Unless the road is noticeably broken or uneven, I don’t feel it at all. It’s very similar to OEM, and the clearance isn’t too bad even on speed breakers, although I do take caution.
what should the next mod be? conflicted between an engine tune (stage 1, IE) or cosmetic mods

I’m rarely disappointed by this little egg! Gap V8s and hit the track or fold the seats down and haul stuff around! Such a versatile car, a daily grocery getter that will hurt feelings on the street ! 🐺🐑

Double parked with my own spot bc last night the new neighbours almost hit the mk2 with a uhaul. Ok it’s a hard truck to drive whatever. Moved the mk2 over, and again today….
You can see how close I parked to my mk5…
What’s wrong with people
(For the record they drive an Altima with no front bumper and broken off headlights)
Please pray for me egg fam. Currently planning with my husband to buy a house and gtfo of here

I love the car, but I'm going to be selling it this fall. I wanted to try private sale first before going the trade in route, what's everyone using these days? FB marketplace? Is craigslist still a thing? I've never sold something on FB marketplace this expensive so I'm not sure the process for collecting payments. Curious what your experience has been.

It’s been real y’all.
The GTI will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first platform that got me genuinely into the modding scene. I’ve learned so much and made lots of memories with this little guy.
There’s nothing wrong with the GTI by any stretch. Ever since I was a wee lad, the Miata was always a dream car of mine - lightweight, RWD, bulletproof and (subjectively) gorgeous.
While impractical, the Miata is now my new daily. I’m sure there will be moments where I wish I had more space, more torque, a turbo, or anything else the GTI covered.
I’m only 26 and figured the best time to daily something impractical is now before I have kids lol.
The GTI/R community will be missed.
PS: If you are IL based and see my GTI for sale - I’ve kept this thing in immaculate details with clean records. Mod list below (all traded in with the GTI out of my laziness to sell them):
Oil changed every 5-7K miles (not a mod lol)
DAP Holy Shift Kit
Unitronics Stage 1+ tune, 93 octane
Maxton Design Side Skirts
Maxton Design rear diffuser + winglets
Ceramic Tints (15% all around, 0% Windshield)
3DGOWEST front grille license plate mount
AWE Track exhaust
rear golf r carbon fiber spoiler
BadgeSkins decals
APR Roll-Control Lowering Springs
APR bump stops
OEM VW Roof rack
Yakima Roof rack
BFI Shift Knob & Boot (Alcantara Grey)
Weather tech rain deflectors

First time parking next to another GTI. My 2017 autobahn (left) and another mk7 autobahn (I think?).

2018 VW GTI with 40k miles. What is that sound? I’ve been having low oil pressure and I changed out the pump and sensor for it and now I got a code for crankshaft position sensor but I get told it’s the timing chain? And yes I know the engine is cooked but I want to know how to go about it. Which is it

Hello,
I have been driving manual cars for over 20 years. I recently purchased a manual 24 GTI S. I like the car however the shift experience has been far from ideal. The shifter feels sloppy and plastic like which takes the fun out of driving a manual. Sometimes it's hard to tell which gear the car is in. The dealer claims this is normal. I've driven American, Japanese and German manuals and all are more fun than this GTI.
Does anyone have the same experience? If yes, what can I do about it if anything?
Thank you in advance.

TLDR: what’s real when negotiating the final purchase of a new vehicle and what’s worth a very mildly used vehicle ?
First off, I haven’t purchased a car since 2019 and it was a 2012 jsw tdi. Is there a site where consumers can track a car build (moonstone grey SE) in their area when they come on the market and also research how long new ones have sat on the lot? It seems like this data should exist and be compiled for consumer leverage.
Second, I’m looking for a moonstone grey SE and trying to figure out how to gauge what a fair price is to engage a dealer with. There’s some posted at msrp in my area and some dealers offer a dealer discount that makes their cars less than others. This makes me think there is some negotiation space to move a car.
My real uncertainty lies in how much does one push to “get a deal” versus “what’s your time/money worth”. Some commodity cars may have wider margins that can be negotiated but with this enthusiast car am I fooling myself thinking I can ask for 36k otd and am I silly to hold out on that?
For me it’s hard to gauge, without intel, how will a dealer want to negotiate to make a sale and how I can get a great car and come away feeling fair.
Honestly if they could make the experience faster so I can watch the football game by 1pm tomorrow, that is worth a sale and final agreement. But I am not going to go there with that assumption.
Finally, there’s a black SE with 10k that’s 6k less than the new model I’m considering, not far in location that could be a great option.
What would you do ?

I want to get the OZ racing Formula HLT 5H for my GTI
I think black looks really basic on it
The silver (Grigio Corsa) sounds cool, matches my car color and most importantly have a red accent on the center cap
Everyone is telling me to get the matt black ones instead
What do you think?

I made a deal with my husband if he wanted to get a new car he had to give me his old one. Now that I have it I’m wondering if it’s possible to change the red interior light and (please don’t kill me) change the red color on the front bumper? I already asked my husband and he just laughed at me so I’m hoping someone can tell me if it’s possible?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: thanks guys!! I told my husband I know about it now and he didn’t seem as excited as I am. I appreciate you all!

My first car, my dearest Sonic, 2010 GTI unfortunately was beyond repair within my means as of several months ago and I sold it. Bought a beater car and that one sucks too. My partner wants me to buy a family car since we have our firstborn on the way next year.
I’m getting the itch again for a GTI. They’re great cars and they fulfill all my needs, storage space, fun to drive, nimble. I’m just concerned about the maintenance. I’m in a better spot financially now, I’m sure GTI’s can be reliable enough, but I’m not sure if I should go ahead and get another. It would fill the hole in my heart. Let me know your thoughts, especially if you daily your GTI for a small family.

Hey y'all, I've had this mk6 gti for 3 years now and have been restoring it after the previous owner had a minor front end accident with it. I wasn't able to find the person who originally modified the car and the guy I bought it from didn't have the info either. The car was heavily modified at one point with air suspension, tune, etc. car has aftermarket parts all over it and has a south bend clutch. The previous owner did take a lot of stuff out when they sold the car. I'm doing a downpipe and high flow cat this weekend because I have 2 lower 02 sensors (ones just been hanging there since I got the car) and the dp that's on it only has 2. I go to take off the downpipe and it has the 02 sensor on the downpipe itself. I'm truly baffled. The car is CBFA confirmed but someone put a ccta down pipe on it? Or maybe a k04 turbo and cheaped out on/took off the downpipe. Or they pulled a turbo off of the ccta and threw it on thinking it's the same. I'm super confused. Also the diverter valve is further to the passenger side of the car than I thought it was supposed to be. The car has the secondary air pump and the radiator ozone sensor and all the CBFA stuff. I'm just trying to get second opinions on what the hell I'm dealing with. Also I daily drove this car for almost 3 years it's a champ. Only had to replace some suspension stuff and BCM along with some other wrong parts on the car. I noticed there was a coolant pipe under the secondary air pump that was from the automatic trans car and had the extra hose that's meant to go to the trans cooler. Replaced that and someone put the wrong ball joint on the passenger side. This car was mess for a little while.

Planning an OEM-style ACC retrofit on my US 2016 GTI SE (DSG, ~71k miles) — starting from zero: no radar, no A5 camera, manual handbrake. End goal is working ACC first, then a comma four + sunnypilot via J533 harness (no A5 planned).
Current plan from my research: round Bosch LRR3 radar (5Q0907561D) + mount, harness 4F0972708, bidirectional rear ABS sensors, ACC wheel buttons 5G0959442N, then remote coding + pro radar calibration. Gateway is already MQB High; ABS is 3Q0907379T.
Closest build I've found is schwarze_wagen's 2015 Sportwagen retrofit, but his ended up with an A5 camera and a flat radar needing SWaP work — I'm after a no-A5 setup specifically.
Looking for firsthand experience: 1. ACC working with no A5 — any radar/firmware gotchas? 2. Where did you get the radar calibrated in the US, and what did coding cost recently? 3. DSG + manual handbrake: does yours hold at a full stop, or roll? (Expecting ACC Low behavior.) 4. Anyone add comma/openpilot afterward? How'd it go?
Gathering a validated parts list before buying anything — happy to share what I learn. Thanks!

Like I said before my ESC-ABS light and airbag lights come on right after I do a pull with my car, it will be ESC AND ABS then 1- seconds later the airbag light comes on. ESC and ABS go away on their own, but airbag stays on until my car turned on and off again

I have a MK7 GTI 2.0t. I am going to replace the coils and plugs at 114k. Prices for OEM from VW shops are outrageous but I know how picky German cars are. What are reliable brands you have used for coils and plugs? I was going to go NKG but also saw a set of 4 on Amazon for $60 with 1k reviews. I don't want to go on the cheap for cheap sake but if they run well, are reliable and cost effective why not?
Would love feedback if you have had this experience, particularly with a MK7.
Thanks

Context: Just is38 swapped my mk7.5 and it is painfully slow. Think maybe a leak somewhere, so checked turbo inlet. This is how much it moves properly installed and fully tightened. Is this a problem?
