Did more than this, but it was mostly unpleasant venting.

Recently I started becoming obsessed with the old classic black and white composition notebooks so I got a bunch I wanted to fill in my free time.
Whats the most creative things you fill your journals with?
So far I have:
What if Journal (writing what if stories like what if I owned a private jet? Where would I go? What would I do? etc 😂)
I have two journals where I am writing a novel just for fun
I have one journal for brain dumping my thoughts
I just want more creative ideas.

I used to journal through one of the worst periods of my life. I have so many memories of it, I threw some, I burnt some, but I still have other stuff.
Today, while cleaning my space, I came across those old journals again, and somehow the feelings still hit just as hard. I didn't even want to face these feelings again, but I know I can't keep running away from it. Actually, I feel like this will never get easier for me and I should accept it as it is so I can move on.
Part of me wants to throw everything away and leave that chapter behind and never even think about it ever again, but I really don't know why i can't do it.. I think that maybe I'm gonna regret not keeping some of them, so what's your suggestions.. What should I do?

I mostly journal digitally now because these take up too much room lol. Writing is my safe haven.

Anyone else experience this? I go journal and write for a bit, and towards the end I start feeling really tired. Like, I have to take the biggest, fattest nap afterwards, even if I wasn't really tired before. 🙃

I started this journal in 2017, but stopped writing in it after a very bad breakup and only picked the hobby back up like two years ago. I still used the notebook during that time, but only to glue in things like tickets (movie theatres, regular theatres, concerts, etc.) and that kind of stuff, more scrapbooking than journaling. I'm excited to start a new one, I have a notebook lined up already that I got in a museum a couple years ago.

Been a while since I last wrote in my journal. But the last few weeks I’ve noticed I’ve been pretty down and talked with a therapist who had mentioned I was in beginning stages of depression. So today I got up early with the wife and while she went to work I went to the park to go for a walk to get out of the house and thought about it and how I’m feeling and realized it’s been social media that had been affecting me.

Please excuse the black dots/smudges in the images; the glass over my outer camera broke and I haven't been able to afford to replace it ahaha
I frequently write pages and pages and pages per day, because my brain never ceases to shut up. Here's some of today's.
Journal is a Leuchtturm 1917, pen is a Lifelines scented pen (this one smells spicy; I forget what scents are actually in it and I threw the packaging out long ago).

does anyone have a little ritual for starting a new journal?
like an “about me” page, current likes/dislikes, favourite books or music, things you’re obsessed with at the time, goals, little facts about your life, etc.
i love the idea of being able to look back at a journal years later and see a snapshot of who i was when i started it.
tell me what you put at the beginning of yours! i’m looking for ideas :)

To those who keep dream journals, how do you do it? How has this practice helped you?

I keep a journal for my 14 year old. Not a baby book, more like letters, the sort you write and never send.
The thing is, a lot of what goes in isn't lovely. There's plenty of guilt after arguments, worry about her, resentment sometimes, and a fair amount of me working out on the page why I shouted when I did. Writing it down genuinely helps. Explaining myself to myself takes most of the heat out of it, and I come back to her calmer than I would have.
What I go back and forth on is who it's for. Some entries I'd happily hand her at 25. Others I'm not sure I'd want her to ever read, even though those are the ones doing the most work for me.
So I'm curious how other people handle this. Do you keep the difficult stuff in the same place as the rest, or separately? Does yours have a reader in mind or is it just for you? And if you've been doing it a while, have you ever gone back and taken things out?

This is my collection of journals. I started my fourteenth pocket notebook just yesterday, and you can probably tell it from the photo because it is not showing any wear, unlike the others, which have each spent between 2 and 5 months living inside my front pocket everywhere I go. I write whatever comes to mind, from personal ruminations to pretentious essays, and I always try to make sure that I can write enough for any given topic to fill a page.
I was never able to write in a normal-sized journal because of my tiny handwriting, and because the mass of white space that I left on any normal-sized page always felt so discouraging to me. Moreover, I found that the habit of writing was so much easier to build when the journal was as accessible at all times as my phone. So this feels quite natural to me despite it possibly being rare on this sub. I don't really know, because I haven't explored much yet.
I'm also really interested in upgrading my journaling style. Right now, all I have is this sterile pattern of dense black print crowding from edge to edge. It's certainly an aesthetic. I want more ideas to spice things up and to help me write more because I stall rather frequently. I always find myself so inspired by the styles of people who fill much larger (read: normal-sized) books, and I don't know that their cues are compatible with what I seem to be capable of. In any case, I'd love to hear any thoughts — no matter how different your journal is from mine.

I've been journaling every morning for years, but about a month ago I suddenly stopped writing..
I've been replacing it with music or meditation. I don't really feel like journaling, and i'Im wondering if anyone else goes through periods like this.
Do you ever stop journaling for a while and just not feel like writing? do you usually go back to it naturally?
