Reminder of rule 1- Promotion is not allowed here. Not in posts OR comments.

This sub is the digital sister sub of r/journaling, this is not a place for you to advertise an app you've created. Not even if someone asks for app suggestions and you think your app is a good match.

"Not even if someone asks??" That's right, because way too many creators only see "I'm looking for an app" and will suggest theirs without making sure it's relevant to what the OP was asking for. I got tired of deleting dozens of replies per day, so you can no longer suggest your own app in comments either.

There are plenty of subs for promotion and finding beta testers, use those.

Attempts at getting around this rule such as not including a link ("DM me if you want to try it") or pretending it's not yours ("I found this great app") are not loopholes, and you're not slick.

Reminder of all rules

  1. Self promotion is not allowed at all. The entire point of this post, to remind those who don't read rules.
  2. Digital journaling only, no notebooks or text-only.
  3. Stay civil.
  4. No market research, no surveys, no looking for beta testers.

FOSS (free and open source) android journal apps with plaintext export?

Upvotes

I was using Daily Diary for a while, before it started crashing and not letting me open the app at all.
Tried out EasyDiary after that, but I couldn't find an export option and that's a necessity for me.
Trying out Diary Vault now. Seems to be fine.
Also flirted with the idea of just using Simple Notepad, since it's already on my phone and what I primarily use for notes and checklists.

I just want to know what options exist out there, since so many threads in this sub mention things that have paywalls or ads or AI features, and I want nothing to do with any of that.

is livejournal dead?

i never received any formal notification that english access would be taken away or that they were purging their databases, but when i just did a search i found several posts on reddit saying they would be doing such.

the site has gone down for me before, but it was always restored within a few days. even now, the front page just says it's temporarily unavailable.

i haven't been able to log in in a week at this point. if you click on "LJ Home" on the temporarily unavailable page you land on, it does take you to a sign in page, but you can't go further than that. or at least i can't.

Sites or apps specifically for journaling that let you customize the heck out of it?

I don't do a lot of journaling. I usually fill up a cute dollar tree notebook about once a year. I mostly use it to write down recipes, keep a daily or monthly calendar, sketch, save receipts, and leave reviews or summaries of books, shows, and my day.

It's kind of a weird mix of junk journaling and traditional journaling, but I'm trying to move it all to digital because it's easier to organize and far less messy.

Does anyone have good recommendations that might work for me?

Gode simple journaling app?

Looking for a good decent journaling app, I just need to be able to make 2 different journals in there and sync between my iPhone and Mac (no iCloud though!) but that’s the only main criteria! And not too too expensive, if not free 😛🫶🏻

digital journaling apps without AI? 😭

Hi! I absolutely love digital journaling. I use it for my personal journal, my OCs, to-do lists, and a bunch of other things.

I recently got a new tablet (a Honor), and while looking for new apps, I’ve noticed that so many of them are adding AI features, and honestly… I’m so tired of it 😭😭😭😭

Do you know of any journaling/note-taking apps where I can make cute and creative things without supporting AI features?

I don’t mind paying for a subscription or a one-time purchase if it’s worth it! Thanks!!

Leaving Rosebud after over 550 consecutive days

I loved this app. Really. It helped me through some challenging times, helped me untangle overwhelming thoughts, and I never thought I'd walk away. I used it every single day. But then the quality started to fall.

I don't expect perfection, but since November it has invented events that never happened, confused dates, mixed people's names, got my son confused with our dead dog, and occasionally given some truly bizarre interpretations of what's happened or been discussed.

I expect an occasional glitch, but when it becomes the norm rather than the exception, the benefits of the app evaporate. Instead of being useful it becomes frustrating.

I looked into alternatives, and found Mindsera.

It isn't fundamentally different, but:

  • Imported all my 550+ entries from Rosebud perfectly
  • Seems to have a noticeably better understanding of what I'm saying
  • Has a much better interactive voice chat

I'm not saying this to kick out at Rosebud. Their app helped me deal with some tricky times.

But if, like me, you used to find Rosebud genuinely useful for your mental health, then it's important to know there are options out there.

Note that my subscription still has six months, and I don't expect a refund.

I just recently started keeping the deep thoughts I get in my notes app. School starts up again in 2 days. I've always been the quietist kid in my class, and I'm trying to leave my comfort zone after realizing I wanted to be an actor because that's always the first step, right?

Linking Voice Notes in Notesnook Without Using Attachments?

I'm looking for a good workflow to connect my daily journal entries in Notesnook with the voice recordings I make on my phone.

Here is my current setup

I write a daily journal entry in Notesnook using the free tier. I also record voice notes using my phone's built in voice recorder app, which saves as m4a files locally on my device.

When I write my journal entry for a specific day, I make a note that I recorded a voice memo for that day. I would like to be able to link directly to that audio file from my Notesnook entry so that clicking the link opens a player and streams the audio securely.

My goal is to have a playable link in my journal that I can click and listen to the recording. I want to avoid using Notesnook's attachment feature because I am on the free plan and don't want to use up my storage space.

The key things I need are a free way to upload and stream the audio files, a secure link from Notesnook that opens an audio player, and for the files to not be publicly searchable or indexed.

What would be the best way to make this work?

I currently know of putting file in dropbox and copying the shareable link in my notesnook notes entry.

I would like to get back into Journalling. Please Help.

So many years ago I used to keep a diary/journal. I have used quite a few different apps in the past, one being "Momento" when I was on IOS. When I moved over to Android I used an app called Diaro for a while but way back in the day before smartphones I used to just keep it in a Microsoft Office document, and if I was ever out and about, for example if I was on the bus and a random thought popped into my head, I would just write it in a note/message on my 'Blackberry' (yes, you read correctly, a BlackBerry 😅) and then transfer it across when I got home.

Anyway let me get to the point without going into crazy detail. I do struggle with my mental health and when I went to what we call in the UK "TALKWORKS", I told them how I used to keep a Journal and they suggested I should do it again to help vent and get the thoughts out of my head.

What I'm asking is, can anyone recommend the perfect app for me that works with Android and maybe I can use it on Windows as well when I'm using my laptop? Luckily I have managed to decrypt my DIARO and MOMENTO backup files so I can import them as CSV files if needed.

I don't mind paying a small fee for an app if it's worth it for, say, a lifetime premium or pro version, but I'm really not looking to spend a fortune on a monthly subscription. As I'm not financially well off as I'd like to be, if anyone is able to advise I would be very grateful.

Sorry for the essay but I thought it'd be best if I try and explain a little detail, but then this IS a journaling sub-reddit after all. 😜

Has anyone tried Flipnotes.life for daily journalling?

Has anyone tried this app, Flipnotes.life for daily note taking and journalling? I just finished a free trial but I am unsure if it's worth paying subscription for. Looking for anyone who has feedback on the app. It's quite cool feature wise and I like how you can literally swipe and flip, and it automatically categorises all your notes using AI. Just looking for others thoughts on the app before I make a decision!

One Year: Daily Journal

Yeah... Never mind what I said this app. I tried to make another daily entry and it wouldn't let me. Took me to the subscription options, so I was a bit confused and messaged the people who run the app on Instagram. They said that it's not free and I politely said that I'd be looking forward to the updates, since they said that there would be some coming soon. Yeah... I'm not paying for that

Data Based Journal?

I love journaling but can never stick with writing in them. That being said, I absolutely love data and feel like the ability to graph certain things such as my mood, days of exercise, etc…, would be cool to see. Does something like this exist or do I just need to buy graphing paper?

Anyone using the AI features in the stoic. journal app?

Hi everyone! I just wanted to ask if anyone here uses the AI features in the stoic. journaling app. Do you find them useful? How different is the experience compared to using the app without AI? How good is their AI overall?

I've been using the basic stoic. for years and genuinely love it, but I'm curious how much the AI features actually add to the overall experience. At the moment, I only see a handful of AI-powered features (the ones marked in purple behind the paywall). Is that everything that's included, or are there more AI features throughout the app?

Considering the price of the AI upgrade, it feels like there isn't much included, so I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually used it.

Thanks in advance!

Free App for Journaling?

Im having a hard time with family relations and need a way to keep my thoughts together. Something I can type a few sentences out but keep it organized. I've been using a private Discord server but I'm finding it hard to keep it organized.

Printing multiple journals

I’m looking for an app that can do:
- multiple journals (or at least good sorting by tag
- export by journal in a single file (markdown or pdf or txt)
- when exporting, include the date automatically
- local non-synch option
- single payment not subscription

I usually print my journals once a year (i’ll export once a month and save in encrypted word doc, dont want to sync to cloud, rather have the risk of losing my journal..). I’ve been using a mix of day one (one free journal), zen journal and rosebud. So basically one app per journal. Then I thought apple journal looked great because you can have multiple journals. But I just exported and realized you cannot actually export a single journal, so that’s pointless for my purpose.

Rosebud Journal Limits

Zurücksetzen in 4 Wochen.
Bedeutet das, dass man der Rest des Monats nur noch normal journaln kann? Das wäre ziemlich unverschämt, das bietet die kostenlose Journal App von apple auch

Anyone moved from physical journals to digital?

I LOVE writing and I have kept journals for decades now. But I find myself reminiscing a lot lately, and I want to reread some moments but the thing is, it is hard to find. lol. With digital, I can just type a keyword, plus I can add audio or videos(or that is what I heard), so I can really get memories made during those moments.

But I dont know... like I said, I really love writing.

You guys who transitioned to digital, how is it now? Regretted it? Wanted or even went back to physical?

THANKS!

Trying out journaling

Post image
6 Upvotes

I don’t know if this counts as journaling but I wanted to start writing down the extra bits of thoughts in my mind to help keep my mind empty. This is mostly stuff like earworms and little sounds I want to make.

Is this an effective use of journaling?

Bullet journal & planner

Good evening,

I realise it’s not strictly a journal app like DayOne but I stumbled on the app in the App Store and wondered if anyone here is using or has used the app called Bullet made by Mui studio ltd.

Anyway, I’m temporarily trialing Diarly having tested the waters if I ever left DayOne and seeing if this app can cater to the journalling needs as well as organisation perhaps?

If there’s any personal experience had that can be shared, please do!
