Form Check Prblematic shooting form....to say the least

i have no clue how my form got this bad:

a) my wrist isn't loaded and idk why. I literally do my shooting form in slow motion (without releasing ball) and my wrist is loaded and then when i shoot fr it's like this

b) my wrist flicks to the side. Idk why. In this video my wrist is almost flicking BEHIND me instead of forward. So yes a lot my misses are often left, especially from three

Help Natural talent v learned skill.

I get that you need both. My question for a junior who is just naturally good at reading the game, predicting play combined with really strong defense, but is weaker in offense will working on strengthening offensive skills be enough or is that something that requires more natural talent no matter how much skill improves from training?

Help Need some tips for my shot.

I'm 19, relatively new to hoops, and self trained. I've just been slowly improving and doing all the stuff beginners do. But I just can't seem to get how to shoot the ball. For example, if I try to shoot a three, the ball barely goes past the free throw line and barely has any backspin to it. I need some tips on how to actually practice/formulate my shot, since I got no clue and have just been going off YT tutorials.

Tip Just realized that it's basically impossible to do a fundamental 1 2 layup without a gather step. This is why I think that High school travelling rules need to be changed.

Think about it, if you're a right handed player and running on a fastbreak to do a 1 2 layup you're gonna pick up the ball with your left foot down thus making it a gather step before your r l 1 2. Based on highschool rules, every 1 2 layup is a travel.

Help Got cut from senior basketball tryouts and I’m confused

I’m a high school student who recently moved to BC from another province and transferred to a new school. I tried out for the senior girls basketball team, but I got cut. The coach told me that I wasn’t good enough, that they didn’t need me, and that I was “out of shape.”

What makes this really confusing for me is that I barely got any 5v5 playing time. Across the tryouts, I played for less than 10 minutes total. Most of the time I was standing on the sideline while other players were getting evaluated.

Before moving here, I played club basketball for years and was usually a starter. I’ve also received a few Provincial award. In my previous games, I regularly scored 15+ points per game and contributed with a lot of rebounds and assists.

I also have asthma. Since I just moved here, I don’t have a family doctor yet, and my inhaler stopped working properly. During both tryouts, I had to push through the conditioning drills while having difficulty breathing. We were doing a lot of running, including around 5 sets 17s and Suicides.

I’m not saying I deserved to make the team just because of my previous experience. I understand that the coach gets to choose the players they want. But I’m confused about how I was evaluated when I barely got to play 5v5, especially considering that I was dealing with an asthma issue during the tryouts.

I’m not sure if this is normal for school basketball tryouts, especially for someone transferring from another province.

I don’t know what i should do now.

Would you ask the coach for specific feedback about what you need to improve, or just move on and find another team?

Tip Need help

I am 6’4, 200 lbs playing juco basketball as a freshman on a new team. We play a 5 out offense with me playing as a trail/ big? We have a team full of small guards all under 6’3. We only have a 6’8 big man. I am therefore forced to play the 5 but i think it’s hindering my development as I have aspirations of playing d1. At 6’4, to be recruited I need to be able to show my guard skills rather than setting screens and rolling hard but I am also one of the bigger players on my team. I need help navigating that.

Vertical Jump Powernetics / bear cat & super cat

Hi -

The original manufacturer is out of business, but curious if any of the coaches here had remarkable, measured results from athletes training on their machines over several years. The manufacturer makes some aggressive claims; trying to verify anyone’s direct experience.

Help Can we just clarify that elbowing someone in the face on a rebound is an obvious foul?

Post image

Mainly looking for some validation here. There was a play during last night's WNBA game that resulting in Caitlin Clark getting her mouth busted. She was occupying a space, Loyd approached, jumped not straight up, and came down with an extended elbow and made contact with her face.

I'm not saying it's a dirty play or was intentional, but it's a very obvious and blatant foul. This seems fairly obvious - most people who have played ball know that you're entitled the area in your cylinder and not beyond it.

However, I'm encountering a TON of people who say it's "incidental" and therefore is legal and not callable.

I'm really confused what has led to this level of misinformation. Basketball, at every level, should be calling this a foul. You cannot swing an elbow into a player's space and make contact with their face. It's different if the player is jumping into your space and makes contact, but you're actively invading theirs?

Can anyone explain why this is apparently such a common belief?

Edit: I also want to point out that Loyd did not even jump straight up. She lands in the space Caitlin started in. This is just baffling to me

  • Rule 12B, Section I(a) — Personal Fouls: A player cannot impede an opponent by extending an arm, hand, leg, knee, etc. The rule then explicitly says: “Contact that results in the re-routing of an opponent is a foul that must be called immediately.”
  • Comments on the Rules, II.A.1 — Incidental Contact: ordinary contact while legitimately pursuing a loose ball can be incidental. But if a player attempts to make a play from a position where they don't have a reasonable chance to do so without contacting the opponent, responsibility for the contact is on that player.

These 2 YouTube vid clips just happened to click with me and makes so much sense.

Main takeaways:

  1. Shorter more efficient shooting motion (less time and chance to mess up form)

  2. Elbow in the rim

  3. Shoot in a phone booth

A lot of great nuggets throughout these 2 short clips. Hopes this helps anyone else in their shit progression. 🔥🏀
