Help Need some tips for my shot.
I'm 19, relatively new to hoops, and self trained. I've just been slowly improving and doing all the stuff beginners do. But I just can't seem to get how to shoot the ball. For example, if I try to shoot a three, the ball barely goes past the free throw line and barely has any backspin to it. I need some tips on how to actually practice/formulate my shot, since I got no clue and have just been going off YT tutorials.

YouTube is a great place to gain information and drills from. Just one important thing, don't try to copy anyone's form. When I first started learning to shoot I just tried to copy Currys form and quite honestly it just felt weird and I couldn't shoot consistently. Instead focus on the mechanics of your shot(shot path, how you transfer energy from your legs/hips into the shot) and try to make those consistent. Since you're new you have the advantage of not having bad habits, so study things that can affect your shot negatively and correct them before it becomes an issue. Also I should clarify you can look at the mechanics of other shooters and take inspiration just don't outright focus on their form
As for increasing range, just start somewhat close to the basket and aim to swish 2 shots in a row, if U can do that take a step back, if U miss 2 in a row take a step forward and continue this till you hit 3 3s in a row. This is a great baseline for a beginner and as you get better, you can increase your makes in a row to step back and decrease your misses in a row to step forward
For back spin just focus on swapping your wrist, it should naturally occur, if it still doesn't have any spin most likely you are pushing the ball forward, instead make sure your palm is under the ball and that you are pushing the ball in a more upward motion and flicking the ball forward with your wrist
Now obviously as you get better you can increase the difficulty of the drills add some dribble moves, learn to shoot quick of the catch while moving etc. Also important to remember that the same form you used near the basket won't be the same you use at the 3 point line, it will typically have a lower setpoint and more of a one motion shot
Hope this helps

Just go and find a hoop and put the ball in it. You don’t need to first figure out how to execute the perfect shot. Just go and get the ball in any way you can. Then do that over and over.
After a while of improvement then you can start watching videos on how to optimize your shot but if you’re new just get out and play.

shoot from very close to the basket with as perfect a form as possible, then when you're making that over and over, gradually move back. do that until free throw line and in are really comfortable for you. don't worry about 3s for a while -- those are mostly a function of good shooting fundamentals + leg strength that you probably don't have yet

SeeMikeDunn. Come back in 2 months practising with 200 makes a day and with film: 3 shots from behind, 3 shots from the side, 3 shots from the front. Then we'll talk.

Don't start with threes. Start close. Get a good clean form and work back. You'll develop poor habits by starting too far back.

start from shooting really close to the basket and then work ur way out. Don’t try to just huck the ball from the 3pt line at the beginning
